WWE
Tyson Tomko could be out the door already
- Word going around is that Tyson Tomko, who recently re-signed with WWE, is dealing with a torn pectoral muscle. He was seen wearing a sling the day after his dark match in Pittsburgh Monday night, and some even think he went into the match with the injury and tried to keep it quiet.
Live reports stated that Tomko got a good reaction Monday in Pittsburgh, but Vince McMahon was not a fan of his performance. With Vince not pleased, that led to others in the company saying that his performance was poor and that he looked “heavy.” If Tomko did go into the match with a torn pectoral muscle, that would explain a lot since his workouts would have been limited.
There is already talk that his return may be a short one, including rumors that he is already be gone from the company.

WWE offers controversial contracts to superstars
- WWE has been offering long-term contracts to several big starts with clauses that strongly favor the company. WWE has offered Rey Mysterio a 5-year contract and Randy Orton a 10-year deal, where they don’t provide many ways out of the contracts for the wrestler, but are filled with clauses that would let the company out of the deal.
For example, if there is a three-year contract, WWE could break it at any time with just 90 days notice. Some top starts have enough leverage to broker better deals, but the company still is strict about protecting themselves with out clauses.
In Mysterio’s case, the company would be protected if Rey suffered another injury or Randy Orton had a behavioral incident and the company wanted out of the deals. In the case of an injury, WWE merely pays the downside guarantee, so there is incentive for the wrestlers to continue working. The policy was put in place in response to various wrestlers who abused WCW’s guaranteed contract system. This leaves the performers with very little leverage.
If the talent is locked in for a long-term deal, but the company can opt out at any time they please, it’s basically a no lose situation for WWE.

Explanation for why the WWE switched the World Tag Titles at a house show
- The Wrestling Observer is reporting that the decision to take the tag titles off CM Punk and Kofi Kingston had more to do with pushing The Miz and John Morrison rather than focus on Punk and Kofi as singles wrestlers. Coming off their Slammy win, creative wanted to give The Miz and Morrison the tag titles as well so they could “brag” that they now have two types of gold.

TNA
Nathan Jones to TNA
- It has been rumored for quite some time now that former WWE star Nathan Jones has signed a contract with TNA and will be debuting with the company. It’s now being reported that Jones has indeed signed with TNA, and he is expected to be introduced either at the Genesis PPV in January or a short time after that. Although Jones has been signed for awhile now, his debut with TNA has been halted due to a motorcycle accident which took place while he was training for his US return. Jones was struck by a cement truck and suffered nerve damage in his arm, however is expected to recover fully and should be cleared to wrestle shortly.

TNA tidbits including a rumor regarding Elijah Burke joining the company
- There are rumors going around regarding Elijah Burke heading to TNA. Burke and TNA’s Terry Taylor appeared together a few weeks back at a convention in New Jersey and had a long discussion about the possibility of him joining the company. Burke wouldn’t be able to sign a TNA deal until his 90 day no compete clause with WWE has ended.
- If the injury to Kaz is serious enough, TNA is considering putting someone else under the [Suicide] mask in order to keep the character on TV.

- It didn’t take long for the Necro Butcher to answer the challenge laid out by Rhett Titus http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBxj6zOB50k. Necro emphatically told ROH officials on late Tuesday night that he would love the chance to enter the Four Corner Survival on December 27 in New York City. “Titus is gonna learn his lesson”, said the Butcher. “And he’s gonna learn well. I never back down from a challenge. Not in the ROH/CZW Wars, not when I was with the Age of the Fall, and sure as hell not now. I’m coming for you Titus.” This completes the completely stacked Four Corner Survival as Necro joins Rhett Titus, Chris Hero, and Jerry Lynn at the Hammerstein!
- Speaking of Rhett Titus, he and Kenny King have signed to be on hand for ROH’s return to Manassas, VA on 1/16 and Edison, NJ on 1/17. Previously announced for the doubleshot weekend are Mid-Atlantic standouts Damien Wayne, Sean Denny, and Chris Escobar, as well as the “American Wolves” of Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards with Larry Sweeney. More stars of ROH will announced soon here in the Newswire.
- ROH World Tag Team Champions, Kevin Steen and El Generico, have both made phone calls to the ROH Booking Committee in the last 48 hours to discuss the claims made by Jimmy Jacobs that he and Delirious had the deck stacked against them in Dayton last month. Steen, in particular, was outraged that Jacobs brought what he called “complete bull” to the Committee in hopes of landing another title shot. This topic apparently wasn’t the only one that the champs discussed with ROH officials. We will have more on this before the week is over.
- It’s official. After listening to claims made by both competitors and weighing the situation very carefully, ROH officials have sanctioned a huge match for 12/27 at Final Battle! The heat between Tyler Black and Austin Aries has been building, especially after Black scored a clean pinfall over Aries in suburban St. Louis earlier this month. Now these two will battle it out again. This time, ROH officials have upped the ante. Austin Aries and Tyler Black meet in New York, and the winner of this contest will be declared the Number One contender to the ROH World Championship!
- The new ROH Video Wire posted at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1W2Y0JLYoGc features highlights from our recent event in Nasville, TN. This includes comments from Nigel McGuinness towards Jerry Lynn from after their World Title Match, followed by a disturbing locker room confrontation.
- The movie “The Wrestler” opens today in limited release. In New York City you can see the movie at Landmark Sunshine Cinema, 143 E. Houston Street, New York, NY 10002 and Lincoln Plaza Cinemas at 30 Lincoln Plaza, Broadway between 62nd and 63rd, New York, NY 10023. In Los Angeles it will be playing at The Landmark, 10850 West Pico Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90064. The New York Daily News gave the film a tremendous review today which you can read here: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/movies/2008/12/16/2008-12-16_mickey_rourke_earns_oscar_buzz_with_role.html.
ROH officials received a surprising phone call this morning. It seems someone wants to return to their old stomping grounds.
- Tickets for the Ring of Honor shows in Houston, Texas, that will take place over WrestleMania weekend, are currently on sale.
