Main Event Mafia Offers Politician Spot In Group
Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich offered job as Chairman of TNA Wrestling’s Main Event Mafia
TNA Wrestling is offering the newly created position of Chairman for its Main Event Mafia faction - and the opportunity to openly sell chairs, steel chairs - to ousted Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich.
TNA officials confirmed today that Blagojevich, who was impeached by the Illinois House of Representatives on January 29, is being offered the “Chairman” job within its Main Event Mafia faction, an elite unit which includes U.S. Olympic Gold Medal winner Kurt Angle, former World Heavyweight Champions Kevin Nash, Booker T., and Scott Steiner, and reigning TNA Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion Sting.
Blagojevich was arrested on criminal charges on December 9, 2008, for conspiring to sell the senate seat vacated by then-President Elect Barack Obama to the highest bidder, but Angle truly believes in the U.S. justice system.
“He’s innocent until proven guilty,” Angle said. “As the leader of the Main Event Mafia, I am a huge fan of the Illinois style of politics. As such, Governor Blagojevich is welcome to join me and the entire Main Event Mafia at any and all TNA events in the future, and certainly is welcome to sell his seat with us should he choose not to accept our generous offer.”
Blagojevich is a former amateur boxer, so Angle is convinced Blagojevich, “easily will be able to handle the transition to pro wrestling,” Angle said.
The Illinois House of Representatives voted in favor of impeachment by an astounding margin of 114-1. Only 60 votes were needed to push the impeachment forward. The single dissenting vote came from Democratic State Representative Milton Patterson, who represents the Southwest side of Chicago.

Main Show
- 1) Bryan Danielson defeats Rhett Titus with Cattle Mutilation. Mostly a comedy bout with Dragon playing to the crowd a lot.
- 2) Austin Aries defeats Silas Young with the Last Chancery. Match was fine, nothing special. Before the match Aries cut a promo telling off the fans, and taking a shot at Silas’ newborn and his wife. During Aries’ entrance no one knew who it was due to the music. Aries yelled through Young’s entire entrance.
~Return date: June 26th, 2009
- 3) Brodie Lee vs. Necro Butcher ends in a double count out. Most of the match was spent outside the ring, and they brawled in to the crowd afterward. Brodie jumped Necro during his entrance.
~Delirious and Jimmy are out. Jimmy calls out Strong and Stevens.
- 4) Roderick Strong & Erick Stevens defeat Jimmy Jacobs & Delirious with a Big Boot/Spinebuster combo. Decent match, but the crowd is still semi-deadish. Jimmy physically threatened Delirious after the match but they eventually left together.
~INTERMISSION~

Albright locked Claudio in the Crowbar, and when Claudio got to the ropes Albright refused to release the hold, instead choosing to keep it in and yell at Sweeney. Match was a very good until the finish.
- 6) Tyler Black and Jerry Lynn wrestle to a twenty-minute draw. The match was absolutely awesome. Crowds wants five more minutes … but they aren’t going to get it.
- 7) Nigel McGuinness defeats Jay Briscoe with the Jawbreaker in a solid match. Lots of jawing with the crowd.
-
ROH World Tag Team Championships: Kevin Steen & El Generico defeat Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards to retain the Championships in a good main. After the match Steen cuts a promo saying Steenerico are holding those belts for a good long while.

Howard Finkel wants MVP on ECW
- In an interesting bit of kayfabe news, Howard Finkel wrote in his blog that ECW GM Teddy Long should seek MVP to replace Matt Hardy on ECW. Finkel essentially blasts Long for just letting Hardy go instead of making a deal with Smackdown GM Vickie Guererro. It would make sense for ECW to get a solid mid-to-upper card talent to replace Hardy, who left a hole in the main event scene in ECW. You can read the entire blog at this link.

Chris Benoit’s doctor pleads guilty to 175 drug charges
- From wrestlezone.com
edited by: Jacqueline Gulledge
COWETA COUNTY, Ga. (MyFOX Atlanta) — Dr. Phil Astin, 52, from Carrollton has entered a guilty plea to 175 counts, charging him with illegally dispensing prescription drugs from 2002 until his arrest in 2007. The case stems from the investigation in to the murders of wrestler Chris Benoit’s wife and young son as well as his suicide in June 2007. Astin entered the plea in federal court in Newnan Thursday morning.
According to the federal government, a professional wrestler told investigators that it was widely known in the professional wrestling community that Astin would dispense prescriptions without performing a medical examination. “The [wrestler] said that a number of professional wrestlers obtained prescription drugs from Astin for the purpose of abusing drugs, adding that some of these wrestlers were addicted to these drugs.” (according to the United States Attorney’s Office)
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said one of Astin’s patients was addicted to the illegal prescriptions he had written and overdosed on those drugs in June 2007, which was around the time of the Chris Benoit investigation.
Astin’s practice came under scrutiny after the June 2007 death of one his patients, professional wrestler Chris Benoit. Benoit murdered his wife and 7-year-old son before taking his own life in the family’s Fayette County home.
Inside the house, investigators found steroids and testosterone they say were prescribed by Dr. Astin. In fact, the defendant is accused of prescribing Benoit a 10 month supply of steroids every three to four weeks.
Not long afterward, federal agents raided Astin’s office. That search led to the indictment, which alleges Dr. Astin provided excessive drugs to multiple people, including Benoit, Benoit’s wife Nancy, and other professional wrestlers.
However when the charges were first filed, Astin’s original lawyer defended the doctor’s actions. Now, Dr. Astin may be changing his plea.

Who’s playing Suicide? Gov. Palin joins roster
- Wrestlezone.com is reporting that at last week’s Impact tapings, Christopher Daniels appeared on the show as the Suicide character, and it’s being reported that he will continue to work under the mask until Kazarian is ready to return to TV. It should be noted that TNA has no plans to use Daniels as the Suicide character on any kind of permanent basis, he is just playing it on TV now to keep the character’s momentum going until Kazarian finishes his injury rehab.
- It’s also being reported that the Governor Palin character is now an actual roster member in TNA. She has her own entrance theme and video, and is now being considered as a full time on-air personality. The character is being played by former WCW talent Daffney.

Former AWA wrestler/boxer has Lou Gehrig’s disease
- The Associated Press is reporting that former heavyweight contender Scott LeDoux has been diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease.
An Associated Press report read: The 60-year-old LeDoux confirmed in an interview with The Associated Press that he has the condition, also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. It’s a normally fatal disease that cripples the body and takes away the ability to speak, but LeDoux says he won’t let the diagnosis stop him from living a full life. LeDoux was diagnosed in August. He has continued his work as a commissioner in Anoka County — a suburban county north of Minneapolis — and as executive director of the Minnesota Combative Sports Commission
Obviously, we send our best wishes to LeDoux, who had a memorable run in the 1980’s as a referee for the AWA, which resulted in a feud with Larry Zbyszko. Many matches involving him have aired on ESPN Classics recently during their AWA broadcasts.

Flair is actually the first professional wrestler to be cast into the game, playing Commander Hill. Players will be going against Hill in the game’s “Commander’s Challenge” mode and throughout the battles, Hill will be taunting players in a way that Flair fans will find familiar. Like “The Nature Boy”, the character is designed to beg for mercy if he’s being taken out, but may have a dirty trick in mind. He’s been designed to be one of the toughest opponents in the new game

ROH
January 27 Newswire
- Ring of Honor is very happy to announce a television partnership with HDnet TV. This is a landmark moment in company history, as for the first time ROH will have nationally broadcast programming on cable television. HDnet is the first network to feature all high-definition programming, and is at the cutting edge of modern broadcasting. Details of the announcement can be found at: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2524, with more specifics to come in the near future.
- Jimmy Jacobs and Austin Aries have been a thorn in the side of Tyler Black for quite some time. The most recent interaction between the three saw Jacobs and Aries interfere in Black’s title match on 1/17 in Edison, NJ; a match that may have seen a Tyler Black championship win if not for outside interference. This coming Saturday in Chicago, Tyler will have company to take these two on in the form of none other than Bryan Danielson! Bryan is no stranger to Aries and Jacobs; he and Austin have been partners as well as opponents on numerous occasions, while Danielson and Jacobs recently clashed in Manassas where Jacobs scored the pinfall victory. This grudge match has explosive potential has tensions will most certainly be running at an all time high. Tickets for this big Pay Per View taping are now on sale at www.rohwrestling.com. You can save 35% off tickets (see below for details) until Thursday morning. For more information on the latest in Chicago indy wrestling visit www.ChicagoProWrestling.com.
- Ring of Honor is soon heading to the Sunshine State, and on February 6th in Coral Springs, FL, Davey Richards will take on Tyler Black in a special challenge match. When Richards’ agent Larry Sweeney was asked for a comment, he had this to offer: “Sweet ‘N’ Sour Inc. is a group of closers, baby. We get the job done every time we’re out there. And if there’s one thing that Tyler Black proved in Edison, it’s that he’s not a closer. When that wet blanket gets in the ring with Davey Richards, it will be evident that Sweet ‘N’ Sour Inc. always takes care of business, one way or another!” Sweeney then had to excuse himself to take a phone call from what seemed to be a former client.
- Austin Aries was the man who led to the Necro Butcher’s departure from the Age of the Fall, but now he seems to be aligned once again with Jimmy Jacobs, and that doesn’t sit right with the Butcher. “Any friend of Jimmy Jacobs is an enemy of mine, and I want to see my enemies in only one place. In the ring.” Necro will get his chance on 2/6 in Coral Springs when he locks horns with Austin Aries!
- ROH fans will get a chance to see two of Florida’s most popular wrestlers in Coral Springs when Brad Attitude takes on Sean Osbourne. When asked for his thoughts, Brad said that “this Osbourne is a sneaky guy, but come February 6, he’s got an attitude adjustment coming!” In Coral Springs we will find out if that’s true when two of Florida’s top stars square off.
- The Winter Savings Sale is now ongoing at www.rohwrestling.com. Don’t miss your opportunity to save 35% off your next order. Full details including the discount code can be found here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2338. Sale ends Thursday morning at 9am EST!!!

Rey Mysterio Interview
I conducted a phone interview yesterday with Rey Mysterio, who will be one of 30 participants competing in the Royal Rumble match at Sunday’s WWE pay-per-view.
You’ve had some serious injuries in recent years, including multiple surgeries to repair your knee and biceps. How are you holding up physically at this point?
I feel like I need a tuneup (laughs). Before I had my biceps surgery, it was my knee. I would wake up limping every morning. Now, I wake up stiff from my right arm. If it’s not one thing it’s the other, but we’re still here pushing strong, man.
I know that you got into the business when you were about 14 or 15, so you’re probably used to being one of the younger guys in the locker room. But now you’re one of the veterans. Do you see yourself as a mentor or teacher?
Yeah, and not so much because I want to establish it, but because the locker room gives me the opportunity to lead by example, to be a role model if you will. The new guys coming in, the up-and-coming superstars, stop me for a second and ask me certain things, so that’s when it kicks in and I realize, OK, I have been around for almost 20 years now, so it’s time to give advice and help out with the younger stars.
Guys such as yourself, Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero were stealing the show on the undercard in WCW during a time when it looked like guys your size and style would never make it to the very top. Did you think it would ever be possible to achieve what all of you have?
I think in the back of our minds we knew there was an opportunity for us waiting, we just didn’t know where it was at or when it was going to happen. I think when Jericho made that first move and jumped over to WWE, he opened up the door for all of us, man. And right behind came Eddie and Dean Malenko, and then after that, they pretty much opened up the door for myself.
With the Royal Rumble coming up Sunday, I wanted to ask you about the one that you won in 2006. You were in the midst of the biggest push of your career – winning the Rumble and then going on to win the world title at WresteMania. But your close friend Eddie Guerrero had just died a couple months prior to the Rumble. What was it like from an emotional standpoint to be getting the big push at the same time you were mourning for Eddie, who, in the story line, was your inspiration?
It was a lot to carry, man. Eddie passed away in November, and the Rumble was in January. We had just finished up with a big bang with that whole story line with my son and my wife and Vickie, so it was very emotional. We had not gotten over the fact that Eddie had just left us. And then we had the story line of every time that I wrestled it would be for Eddie. That kind of gave me an inner strength and helped me push through on a daily basis every time I stepped into the ring. In addition to the fact that Eddie had left us, there was a big spot that he left for me to handle and take care of, which was the whole Latin community. There were only two Latin representatives at the time – Eddie and myself – and he left that spot sitting there. It was like he said, “Rey, you’ve got to take this and run with it.” So, there were so many things that I had to think of and process and cherish. It hurt a lot, but at the same time, I pushed through it and I believe Eddie was there every step of the way.
You mentioned Vickie. I know that you have known her for years. Are you surprised at how well she is pulling off her role on Smackdown?
Incredibly surprised. This is a Vickie that was very, very hidden deep down inside of her. Then again, I should say I’m not surprised because of the man she was married to. She’s done an incredible job.
You’ve had some good matches against Evan Bourne and also with him as a partner. What are your impressions of him?
He’s a great competitor. As far as an up-and-coming superstar, he’s definitely got it. I think he’s in the same boat as when I was trying out for WCW. There are guys that tell you, “You’ve got to take it easy, man. You can’t be doing all that crazy stuff. Pick out your high-flying moves; don’t do all of them at once.” And back then I would go, “Yeah, sure, thank you.” But then I’d turn around and say, “Hell no. I’m going to do everything I can. That’s the way I wrestle; that’s the way I do it.” Well, now I’ve learned my lesson. After five knee surgeries and three biceps surgeries, I’m like, “Man, I should have listened to them.” But when you’re hungry and you want to be successful and you were raised a certain way, it doesn’t matter who tells you to slow down. Sometimes you just have to learn the hard way, and that’s by getting injured. Evan Bourne is just like me. Hopefully, he can pick out his offensive moves, because he’s got so many and he’s so incredible to watch. I just hope he takes the advice of all of us who have been around a little bit longer and he can tone it down. That way he can last a lot longer.
You’ve worked against some big guys lately, such as Mike Knox, JBL and Kane, and they matches have all been believable and entertaining despite the size difference. Talk about the difference in your approach when you’re wrestling a big man such as Knox as opposed to a cruiserweight like Bourne.
With an Evan Bourne, you know it’s going to be a buildup match with somewhat nonstop action. With a bigger guy, it’s hard to keep that nonstop action going. It’s more chop, chop, chop the tree down – see how many times it’s going to take you to hit that tree for it to come down. That’s the type of psychology I go in there with. I have to work from the legs all the way up and kind of build my way up to the top of the head. There a lot of opportunities for myself to do high-flying maneuvers also, because there’s such a bigger target for me to take down. In a way it’s easy, but then again it’s hard.
Have you ever had an experience when a bigger guy didn’t want to sell for you?
No, I believe I haven’t. I’ve never had any prima donna attitude against me. It’s always been very respectful.
What are your thoughts on Sunday’s Royal Rumble?
I’m definitely looking forward to the Rumble match. I wasn’t in it the past two years. I won in 2006. In 2007, I was injured, and in 2008 I wrestled Edge. I’m very much looking forward to being in there again. Besides that, we have the John Cena versus JBL match, and I think that’s going to be a very interesting match. I want to see what’s going to happen with Shawn Michaels, if he’s being asked to interfere during that match or not. I want to see what he would do. And we also have Jeff Hardy wrestling Edge on the card.
With nearly 20 years in the business now and the injuries having piled up, have you given any thought to how many more years you want to wrestle and life after wrestling?
That is a really good question. I definitely don’t want to continue wrestling if I don’t have to. I don’t want to be the kind of wrestler that has to do it because he needs the money. I’m at the point right now that I’m doing it because I still enjoy it. But I don’t know, maybe in a year from now my passion might be gone, and I might lean more toward my family. I really can’t make a prediction right now, but what I can tell you is that I still have a lot of passion for this business. I always said when I was younger that I want to wrestle until I’m 40 or even in the 50s as long as I can still keep doing the same style of wrestling that I do. I wish I could predict if I could still go at the age of 40. I do feel beat up. I do have a lot of injuries that I’m carrying with me every time I step into the ring, but I think only God can judge at this point.

AC/DC To Perform At ‘Mania
- While overseas, TNA did a big production shoot for the Bravo Network in the UK, which is to promote Impact on the network. [Credit: Pwinsider.com]
- The upcoming show in London could be the largest crowd in the company’s history, some speculating up to 8,000 people will be in attendance. [Credit: Pwinsider.com]
- A UK PPV date could be announced before the end of the tour, but if not, a UK PPV is in the works. TNA is working out the logistics of holding an international event. [Credit: Pwinsider.com]
- Jeremy Borash has posted the following video blog. AJ Styles, Brother Ray, Samoa Joe and other TNA talent appear on the video, which was shot at 4AM in Scotland as the crew prepared to head to London.
credit: 411mania.com
- It was a complete sell out and the crowd were fantastic all night (Not sure on the exact number but defiantly 6-7000+ in attendance). The Card was slightly different again as each previous show, here is a brief outline (in best order as I can remember been a long day).
- Opened up with JB pumping up the crowd….
- Card kicked off with a fun four way for the X Division title between Jay Lethal, Eric Young, the UK’s own Doug Williams and Champion Alex Shelly, with Shelly retaining.
- Next up was Creed vs. Big Poppa Pump, Poppa Pump went over via submission with the Steiner Recliner
- Then onto Bashir vs. Brutus Magnus (what an awful name), Bashir won pinning Magnus with his feet on the ropes till Rudy Charles come down and restarted the match which Magnus then won in about 40 seconds..
- Time for the ladies, with The Beautiful People v Taylor Wilde and ODB, ODB who was over big time, shaking that ass, and groping Taylor to the delight of the male fans in attendance.
- Final match before the intermission was the Street brawl between Team 3D and Beer Money, which took the crown up a notch, with Team 3D finishing with the 3D through a table… Team 3D then spoke to the crowd, and went down really well leaving all happy by the break….
- During the break Dixie came out with two of the belts, and fans were lining up to have photos taken with the straps…
- Second half of the card, and Dixie and Mick Foley where out addressing the crowd, with Mick getting the pop that a legend deserves, and the big announcement that TNA will be back in London sometime either for a PPV or a live broadcast/special to air on Bravo in the UK (Sign me up now!).
- Next match, and best of the night (Not to mention the biggest pop), went to AJ Styles and Samoa Joe vs. Abyss and Matt Morgan, with Joe and AJ winning after AJ hit the Springboard 450 on Morgan (after Abyss and Morgan had another lil mishap with Abyss hitting Morgan accidentally with a boot). After the match, Morgan had a go at Abyss then brawling, with Abyss going out to get a chair and Morgan bailing out.
- Time for the main event, Kurt Angle against Jeff Jarrett, not a bad match but not as good as their recent PPV outing, Jarrett won after Big Poppa Pump came down, followed by Foley, with a special appearance by Mr. Socko, allowing Jarrett to nail Angle with the guitar, which some shrapnel managed to bust open Jarrett himself.
- After the match, Foley asked some of the guys to come down, and a few words from double JJ, all in all a great night, and looking forward to the next time.
- On a separate note, if TNA do run another show at Wembley, and you take a digital camera don’t take a digital SLR as it will get taken away, even after TNA ask for you to take as many photos as possible and send them in to them, as the Wembley staff think you a pro, and out to make money!

- Speaking of Chicago, we now know what El Generico was translating into Spanish when Kevin Steen accepted the challenge of Claudio Castagnoli for “Caged Collision” on January 31st. It seems that the Generic Luchador was also reading Nigel’s selfish words, and like many others in ROH, he was insulted by the arrogance. So much so that he contacted the ROH Booking Committee and begged for a chance to shut Nigel up. Of course, Nigel has defeated Generico in the past, so he has no reason to accept the match. ROH officials contacted him by phone to discuss Generico’s request. “I’ve already defeated that skinny tart,” said Nigel. “Why on Earth should anyone believe he has a claim to the Title? It’s like I’ve said sunshine, there is no one I haven’t beaten. Not that clamdigger Danielson, not Geritol Lynn, not Tyler Black, not anyone worth stepping into that damn ring with. Maybe I should reconsider, and just take the PPV off. I’ve nothing to prove – and certainly not to that skinny pale immigrant.” As the phone call seemed to conclude, Nigel spoke again, “But you know what, I’m a fighting champion though, aren’t I? And I have made a name for myself living up to every challenge that stood before me. If the fans want me to wrestle on the Pay-Per-View, and if they want me to fight that masked tart again, then I’ll oblige. And trust me, Generico will regret it.”
- A very strange letter arrived via courier to the ROH offices yesterday, and written on it were these words. “The thundering path of the Bison will lead me through the very heart of Ring of Honor. It has begun.” The letter was not signed.
- Just added to “Caged Collision” in Chicago on January 31st is a special attraction singles match pitting “Addicted to Love” Rhett Titus against Grizzly Redwood. Will the man with “Hammys that win Grammys” defeat the littlest lumberjack, or will Grizzly logroll his way to victory?
- Check back later today at www.rohwrestling.com for the “Winter Savings Sale” where you can save 35% off your next order.
- We’re excited to announce another match for “Proving Ground ‘09″. On February 7th in Orlando, Kenny King returns to ROH and will team with Rhett Titus to take on Chris Gray & Tommy Taylor, The British Lions. King’s YRR cohorts, Sal Rinauro and Chasyn Rance will also be a part of the festivities, so the deck already appears to be stacked against the newcomers from England. In any event, both teams are looking to prove their worth, and in Orlando, we’ll see who’s ready to take that next step.
- ROH Officials have made several attempts to find out which members of Sweet-N-Sour Incorporated will battle inside the Steel Cage on the 31st. Larry Sweeney has refused to budge, citing “contractual loopholes” that allow him to suppress the information. “Those idiots said they wanted Sweet-N-Sour in the cage,” said Sweeney. “And that’s how the contract was drawn up. Now they want the specific names? Am I as dumb as Albright’s hair looks? Why would I concede an obvious advantage? Why would I clue them in? There’s no way in hell I’m talking, and no one will know who I’m bringing to Chicago until it’s time to get into the cage!”

I don’t have a vote in the WWE Hall of Fame.
I STILL don’t have an answer for any one as to why Randy Savage is not in the WWE Hall of Fame and for the record I am not seeking an answer to that conundrum.
I do not think it makes sense for the WWE to have all their programs rated PG and then have one wild card program be rated R as suggested by some fans.
It is still my belief that Stone Cold will NEVER wrestle Hulk or that the Rock will EVER wrestle any one again.
We do sincerely appreciate all the suggestions on how we can improve our store and are looking into the opportunity to develop a “Sampler Pack” of our products.
We do not plan on owning any JR’S BBQ’S outside Oklahoma but will entertain the thought of franchising them to owner/operators any where in the world. Franchising J.R.’s is our long term goal.
The Tommy Dreamer story is good for ECW but I have no idea where this saga will end nor do I want to know. I don’t need any “spoiler” fix on the Dreamer TV issue.
If you want to work for the WWE, please contact the WWE. Their Human Resources (HR) Department handles that. I don’t even hire people to work at my own BBQ place.
Any one who wants to get noticed by the WWE as a wrestler at some point must go through Tampa’s FCW. If I thought I had what it took, come hell or high water I would find myself in Tampa at the FCW doorstep and not take no for answer until I got a try out.
Wannabe referee and managers should use the same concept but working on the Indy circuit and getting good examples of your work on tape is a must.
I do not choose to comment on anyone’s creative in specific terms. In our blogs and on the Q&A’s, I do speak of what I like in general terms and about my philosophical beliefs in wrestling but that’s about it. I am not on anyone’s creative team much to their delight. And my sanity.
As far as I know, Stone Cold is headlining the WWE Hall of Fame but I have no clue if Steve is doing any thing else at WM25 and like many fans, o.k. some fans, I would rather be surprised.
Whoever inducts Stone Cold is great with me. I am not “angry” or “upset” over not inducting Steve as this is Steve’s HOF, not mine.
I am, however, upset that Oklahoma did not win the National Championship but one can’t grieve forever.
Yours truly is not contemplating retirement (sorry to break that to some of you), writing a book, or suffering because I’m no longer working with the King on Raw.
As far as I know, the “World’s Angriest Announcer” and I are broadcasting the WWE Title Bout at the Royal Rumble and we assume the Rumble match with the other announcers but that one is an assumption and we all know what happens when on assumes.
I do know that “The Joe” in Detroit is sold out.
I do know that Tazz and I are driving 300 miles from Detroit to Indy on Monday to prepare for the challenging Friday Night Smackdown taping doubleheader.
I do know that I am attending a dinner with the Minnesota Vikings’ Adrian Peterson in a few weeks here in Norman.
It is a fact that JR’S Family BBQ is growing and serving the best BBQ in Oklahoma and arguably in this part of America. It is also a fact that no establishment in the world has as much original, unique memorabilia on their walls as does our two restaurants.
It is a fact that if you have a chance to get a ticket for the WWE Hal of Fame Induction Ceremony and don’t that you will regret it. I wish I could tell you more.
I do think that GSP will beat B.J. Penn when they fight but I don’t have a viable reason why nor will I make any friendly wagers on said UFC fight. If Penn wins, I won’t be shocked.
Same goes for the Arizona Cardinals but I am pulling for the Steelers. Watch the betting line as I think 7 is a trap bet. Someone knows something because most fans think that the Steelers should have opened as a heavier favorite by at least a point and a half.
Finally, we do appreciate your business and that’s not disingenuous lip service. Please and thank you are still a part of our vocabulary.
Let’s Rumble…..
Boomer Sooner!

Shannon Moore to return?
- Former WWE and TNA wrestler, Shannon Moore, met with Dixie Carter at the Genesis pay per view, reports ProWrestling.net. Carter has had some hesitations about rehiring Moore due to his decision to leave TNA for WWE, but Jeff Jarrett is apparently an advocate for bring him back to the company.
Moore said in a recent interview with BetweenTheRopes.com that he left TNA because WWE offered him a better deal financially. He was going through a divorce at the time and needed to make that move.
Most feel if Dixie Carter is willing to forgive Moore, he will rejoin the company in the near future.

ROH
ROH Newswire for January 22!
- January 22nd: Tyler Black laid it out there in the newest edition of the ROH Video Wire and now we simply must wait. We must wait to see if Jimmy Jacobs and Austin Aries can put aside several months of bloodshed and hatred for the prospect of tearing Tyler Black apart even more than they already have. Black came closer than he ever imagined to becoming ROH World Champion, but once more, the involvement of Jacobs, Aries, and ultimately many more, seemingly shattered that dream. We know that Tyler is ready to fight, and he wants them both in Chicago. Will Jacobs and Aries accept the challenge, and if so, who will Tyler ask to watch his back?
- Speaking of the ROH Video Wire, Jerry Lynn let us in to see a side of himself that most never have. Jerry talks candidly about his experience seeing the acclaimed motion picture, The Wrestler, and in many ways draws parallels between his life and that of the main character in the film, Randy “The Ram”, played by Mickey Rourke. Most importantly, Jerry raises a question in his own mind, “Was Nigel right in Nashville?” Lynn will get the chance to prove that Nigel was wrong when he faces the incredible Tyler Black in Detroit, and teams with The Necro Butcher to face Delirious and Brodie Lee on PPV in Chicago. General admission tickets for both events in Detroit & Chicago are on sale for $10 each until Friday morning at www.rohwrestling.com. Combine that price with the current 20% off sale listed on the main page of the site and you can get a great deal on tickets for these big events.
- “Sugarfoot” Alex Payne had some recent comments on his big match against Silas Young on January 31 in Chicago. Silas has paid his dues all over the Midwest, and has impressed ROH officials on a number of occasions. We now learn that he will face his toughest test yet in Detroit. Young will face a man who would challenge the adage that a leopard can’t change his spots. In Detroit, Silas Young will oppose Austin Aries in singles competition. Aries, who has been talking about his great manifesto as of late, commented, “I know Silas. In fact, I know him well. I also know that time is of the essence. And I know that being in the right place at the right time is sometimes more important than anything else. On January 30 in Detroit, Silas, it won’t be your time and you’ll be out of place and when I’m done, another chapter of the ‘A-Double Manifesto’ gets sent to print.”
- ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness was in contact with several ROH officials over the past 48 hours. As reported, ROH officials are questioning everyone involved in the main event that took place in Edison last Saturday night to ascertain whether any “foul play” took place at the timekeeper’s table. The contest between McGuinness and Tyler Black would otherwise easily be considered a match-of-the-year contender, if not for this alleged black mark. McGuinness was extremely agitated when questioned on the matter, yet his denials aside, ROH officials seem to think that Nigel had more incentive than anyone else to entertain the idea of shortening the contest. Is it pure coincidence that the bell rang immediately following the same series of maneuvers that beat Nigel the night before in Manassas? We’ll continue to update you as details become available.
- Speaking of McGuinness, in Detroit at “Motor City Madness 2009″ he’ll be in singles action and the voices of the fans have been heard. Many people have been clamoring for Jay Briscoe to get a real opportunity to showcase his skills as a singles performer, and on the 30th in Detroit he’ll get that chance. It’ll be McGuinness versus Briscoe, and even though it will be a non-title affair, this match could propel Jay into the upper ranks of ROH! A strong singles showing by the elder Briscoe would no doubt be a welcome delight to Mark Briscoe, who as we all know will miss considerable action. We are still waiting to find out who Nigel will face in Chicago, but we have been told that the title will be on the line when ROH returns to Pay-Per-View in the Windy City!
- SHIMMER Vol. 21 & 22 are set to be released on DVD next weekend at www.rohwrestling.com. Check out a trailer for these titles…
- With the amount of talent coming to Coral Springs and Orlando looking to prove their worth, ROH is titling the February 6th and 7th events “Proving Ground ‘09″. The first match we’d like to announce for Coral Springs is a tag team attraction with plenty of intrigue as the Dark City Fight Club of Kory Chavis and Jon Davis will look to make their mark in Ring of Honor. And what better way to send a statement than by taking on the best. On 2/6, The Dark City Fight Club will take on ROH World Tag Team Champions, Kevin Steen and El Generico! Although this will be a non-title contest, a win by the DCFC would go a long way to showing that they belong in ROH.
- In other Florida news, Davey Richards and Larry Sweeney of Sweet-N-Sour Incorporated have also been added to “Proving Ground ‘09″ weekend.

Updates on Matt Cappotelli and A-Train
- The Wrestling Observer is reporting that Tough Enough 2 winner Matt Cappotelli, who is pictured at the right, was in fact released from his WWE $75,000 downside guarantee contract due to cost-cutting measures within the company. Capotelli has been largely inactive in WWE since he was diagnosed with a brain tumor shortly before being called up to the main roster 3 years ago. WWE felt like it would be in poor taste to release him while he was being treated for his tumor, as it would paint a very unsympathetic picture of the company. However, since Cappotelli’s tumor has been removed and his condition is currently stable, the company felt as if they could proceed with his release considering he cannot wrestle.
- Giant Bernard, formerly A-Train of WWE, apparently angered Kurt Angle following a mistimed powerbomb that Bernard gave Angle following a match they taped for TV in Japan. Bernard was supposed to wait a few minutes after the match concluded do deliver the bomb, which would allow TNA to edit the move out of their broadcast, however Bernard went right into the spot following the match finish. TNA does not want to air footage of Bernard doing a move like that to a top star like Angle, as he may come off as the weaker of the two.

Jonathan Coachman update
- Former WWE personality turned ESPN announcer Jonathan Coachman was interviewed in the latest syndicated Alex Marvez column today, which you can read by clicking here. Coachman noted that while he enjoyed working for WWE, he didn’t see it as something he wanted to do forever. “It really started to wear on me the last couple of years,” Coachman said. “I enjoyed the (WWE) job, but not the travel. Toward the end between doing games and WWE shows, I was on the road five days a week for 51 weeks a year. I also got married, which put strain as well.” Coachman said there was no chance of him ever going back, but he keeps in contact with people in the company and visits shows when they are in the area.
