Bryan Danielson signs with WWE
Top ROH star going to WWE, others may follow…
- ROH has sent out the following statement stating that Bryan Danielson has agreed in principle to a contract with WWE. Danielson has been one of ROH’s top stars since 2002 and is considered one of the best technical wrestlers in the world. WWE had Danielson under a developmental contract years ago but eventually released him. ROH On HDNet moving to Mondays has caused WWE to look at them a bit more seriously and has apparently caused WWE to look at the contract status of several of ROH’s top names.
Bryan Danielson has agreed in principle to a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment.
Bryan has been an exemplary talent and a wonderful member of the Ring of Honor locker room and family since the inception of the company. We couldn’t be happier for Bryan and all of his successes, many of which Ring of Honor has been proud to witness first hand.
We congratulate Bryan on the beginning of this next journey in his brilliant career, and wish him all the best as he progresses. Many Ring of Honor fans refer to Bryan as the “best in the world” and we look forward to looking on in earnest as he shows everyone watching the wrestling world’s biggest stage just why that is.
Bryan will appear as scheduled at all of the September Ring of Honor events. Please join us in Philadelphia, Dayton, Chicago, Boston, and New York as we say thank you and farewell to a truly one-of-a-kind talent.

The majority, if not all of these videos will come from the indy feds, as I am a huge supporter of the indy scene.

WWE
Dreamer Living the Dream longer?
Tommy Dreamer is currently booked for two WWE house shows in August, despite word that his contract expires on June 6th. The fact that he’s booked on house shows through the summer seems to be an indication that WWE believes he will still be working for them.
However, one company source says not to read too much into house show lineups that are listed any more than a few weeks ahead of time because it’s basically a lot of guess work. John Laurinatis usually puts together house show cards far in advance based on where he believes the storylines might be heading.

Punk Fractured Skull?
UK’s Sky Sports has posted an interview with CM Punk and here are some highlights:
His Inspiration to Wrestle: “That’s a hard question to answer because there are so many. Shawn Michaels is definitely one and he is pretty relevant because he’s still with the company. Ricky Steamboat and Bret Hart as well, those”
His Favorite Matches: “About a year ago on SmackDown I had a really good one with Edge. That sticks out in my mind. My championship win for the ECW title against John Morrison and probably the Money In The Bank from last year.
Fracturing His Skull During a Match: “I thought I broke my neck at the time. I was giving a guy a neckbreaker and his head wound up on top of mine and everything just sandwiched and hit the mat at the same time and my head was turned. It felt like somebody took a pot of warm water and poured it inside my brain. Everything got hot so I thought I broke my neck. I still had feelings so like a knucklehead I continued to wrestle for 12 more minutes. Afterwards it was a chore to walk from the ring to the back and as soon as I got in the back I hit the floor and couldn’t get up. I couldn’t open my eyes, I couldn’t see and was throwing up.”
Doctors’ Reaction To the Injury: “They told me that they were shocked because I walked into the hospital. They were like ‘how did you get in here?’ I said ‘I walked’ so they said ‘the bad news is you have a fractured skull. The good news is you should have died.’ I was out two months.”
Pro Wrestling in 2009: “Nowadays it’s bigger and more insane than ever. It’s literally the best entertainment for your dollar. It’s part soap opera, part action movie. There’s loud music like a rock concert, explosions like four or five pyro, gorgeous women, people you can get behind and root for, underdogs, people you want to see get their teeth kicked down their throat. To me, it’s the greatest thing in the world.

Pinfall Recall News Feed for March 11, 2009
- Dave Meltzer is reporting that the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana is the leading candidate to host Wrestlemania 27 in 2011. The venue can hold around 70,000 people.
- Sgt. Slaughter is not entirely done with World Wrestling Entertainment. Even though he was recently released from his contract as an agent, he is still an company ambassador. Ted DiBiase, Jim Duggan and Tony Atlas also have the company ambassador status.
- The original plan was for Big Show to be in this year’s Money in the Bank Ladder match at Wrestlemania but that got changed up once Mark Henry was added to the match and Show got involved in the Triple Threat World Title match.
- When John Laurinaitis called Jackie Gayda to invite her to participate in the 25 Diva Battle Royal at Wrestlemania, she initially thought that he was calling to say that her husband Charlie Haas was being released.
WWE Intercontinental Champion John Bradshaw Layfield, 42, has been telling people backstage that he will likely be retiring from the ring by May. His back problems that caused him to originally retire in 2006 have resurfaced and his retirement from WWE appears imminent. Layfield is not listed in the May house show bookings that have been released.
As noted earlier, Layfield recently claimed he would be doing something historical that would shock the wrestling world at Wrestlemania XXV. Regarding his claim, it’s been speculated that JBL will retire as the Intercontinental Champion, something nobody with the exception of Trish Stratus as WWE Women’s Champion at the 2006 Unforgiven pay-per-view has ever done.
In a strange pairing, Layfield will be teaming up with Vladimir Kozlov against the team of Undertaker and Shawn Michaels next week on Raw. It’s interesting to note that in a blog post yesterday, Jim Ross actually speculated on a Layfield vs. Kozlov feud. While this is only speculation, Dave Meltzer believes the strange pairing could indicate a quick Kozlov/JBL break-up, allowing JBL to go to his home state of Texas at WrestleMania XXV as the babyface and face “The Moscow Mauler” with the Intercontinental Championship on the line. It would cast JBL in the right atmosphere for a retirement ceremony/moment.
Considering CM Punk is already tied to the Money in the Bank Match, he will definitely not be facing JBL at WrestleMania — so there’s not many candidates left. With the exception of Kozlov, the highest slotted candidate not already accounted for on the lineup at “The 25th Anniversary of Wrestlemania” is Shawn Michaels. However, nothing has been done to even start anything in that direction, and time is running short. Following next week’s show, there will only be two weeks left to build towards WrestleMania.

Bonaduce, the former wise-cracking son on the 1970s television series The Partridge Family, is the morning drive DJ on WYSP (94.1 FM) in Philadelphia.
TNA Wrestling executives would not comment on who Bonaduce’s opponent will be, but confirmed that the TNA Wrestling Superstar will be in Philadelphia next Friday, March 20, for the official Contract Signing, to be held on-air during Bonaduce’s radio show.
- Kurt Angle then suggested if no one took up Bonaduce’s challenge that he would find him a TNA star to wrestle on the show.
- Kurt Angle also announced that there would be a Team Angle vs. Team Jarrett match at Lockdown, which will likely be the yearly Lethal Lockdown match.

Triple H too old?
For several months, WWE Champion Triple H has been rumored to play the starring role in the upcoming “Thor” movie that’s set to begin filming in July. In what seems like a possible set back for Triple H, DigitalSpy.com reports that producers of the movie recently issued a casting call for the lead role looking for an actor in his 20s. The Game turns 40 years old on July 27. The casting call describes the role of Thor, the mythological god of thunder, as “physically powerful, very handsome, occasionally egotistical, petulant, and wild.”

The Wrestler star arrested for ‘roids?
In what could definitely be considered ironic, Scott Siegel (the actor who played Randy The Ram’s drug dealer in “The Wrestler”) was arrested in New York last night following a crazy police chase. Siegel was charged with distribution of steroids, which is what he provided Mickie Rourke’s character in the movie, and assaulting an officer.
Siegel was apprehended in Eastchester, New York following a car chase through Westchester. During the chase, he rammed several police cars and once stopped, he abandoned his SUV and tried to flee on foot.
His arraignment should be held today for distribution of steroids and assaulting an officer.

RAW
Oscar winner or HoF’er vs. Jericho?
As of right now, the only matches set in stone for Wrestlemania 25 are Triple H vs. Randy Orton, Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy, and Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker.
Mickie Rourke is telling people that he won’t be attending WrestleMania 25, but WWE is expecting him to change his mind after the Academy Awards on Sunday. If Rourke still doesn’t bite, WWE has laid out a possible backup plan where Chris Jericho will face a wrestling legend such as Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, or Ric Flair. It all really depends on Rourke and what he chooses to do AFTER Sunday’s Oscars. He doesn’t want to risk not getting an Oscar due to taking part in a WWE angle. Rourke’s concerns are legitimate, as the entertainment industry still has a very negative view on wrestling.
- As we posted earlier, WWE is hosting a red carpet Oscar party in Beverly Hills tonight. The invitation says over a dozen WWE superstars will be in attendance and reads, “We know at least one film that’s on everybody’s minds, come check out the one party that will be on everyone’s lips this week.”
- New York Magazine caught up with Mickey Rourke last night at a fashion show in New York City and asked him about his involvement at Wrestlemania. “We’re gonna go in support. Vince McMahon, Roddy Piper, and Ric Flair have been such a part of the movie,” Rourke said. “So whatever support I can give back to all those people from WWE, I’m gonna do that.” When the reporter asked Rourke why he backed out of his rumored match with Chris Jericho, NYMag.com writes that Rourke’s publicist jumped in and said, “We don’t need to talk about that.”

Hogan loves Vince like Rhianna …….
According to PWInsider.com, the WWE has sent out feelers to Hulk Hogan about doing a match at Wrestlemania 25.
From Hogan’s end, he has made it clear in recent interviews that he’d love to face either John Cena or Steve Austin and he’d be willing to do a clean job.
As far as WWE goes, the relationship between Hogan and Vince McMahon has been on and off for years. McMahon was said to be angry with Hogan for doing the CCW show (which he felt exposed the industry) but he usually overcomes his issues with Hogan for the sake of business.
WWE seems to be working towards a John Cena vs. Edge match at Wrestlemania, although Edge has also been developing a feud with The Big Show in recent weeks which would leave Cena in a position to face Hogan.

Will Hogan wrestle?

Hogan and Vince Sitting in a Tree part 2
There have been a lot of rumors going around regarding Hulk Hogan working WrestleMania 25. The word going around at the No Way Out PPV was that contact was made between Vince and Hogan about a match at the event. As of Sunday, the lead match discusses was Hogan vs. Cena. On Raw, WWE began a Cena vs. Edge program, so the match with Hogan seems to not be likely. The latest word is that Hogan could face Chris Jericho as a part of the ongoing angle between Jericho, Mickey Rourke and various WWE legends.

Bubbbahhhhhhhhhhh
During today’s Bubba the Love Sponge radio show, a caller asked Bubba if Hulk Hogan would be appearing at Wrestlemania 25 since a number of Wrestlemania moment clips on WWE television seem to feature him. Bubba said he knew why WWE was running the clips, but could not comment at this time, reports ProWrestling.NET.
As many of you know, Bubba is one of Hogan’s best friends. Seeing how he didn’t deny anything, his silence on the matter should spark even more speculation on “The Hulkster” appearing at Wrestlemania 25.

Vince doesn’t like Christian’s?
SmackDown writer Michael Hayes originally came up with the idea of Christian Cage doing all the sneak attacks on Jeff Hardy to be revealed at the Royal Rumble. As time went on and people figured that Christian was behind it, and/or Hayes realized how Vince felt about Christian, he approached Vince with the idea of giving the role to Matt Hardy. Hayes sold the idea on the fact that Matt vs. Jeff would be a bigger surprise and bigger draw than Jeff vs. Christian, and Vince agreed with him.
John Laurinaitis had been pushing to do something with Christian sooner, rather than have him sit and wait until April. While all the talk about his return was going on, Vince started to sour on Christian. Back in 2005, whenever ideas were brought up for Christian, Vince always nixed them and only saw Cage as an upper midcarder. Vince even said in meetings that Christian had no star aura about him and that his head shot promotional photo was one of the worse he had ever seen.
RAW writer Brian Gewirtz asked about bringing him to RAW after Matt got the spot on SmackDown, but there was concern he would end up like D-Lo Brown - just hired and forgot about without getting a chance. They came up with the idea to give him a new feud with someone Vince is high on, that being Jack Swagger. They felt the longer they didn’t get him on TV, the more likely he’d end up never to get going and this was the best thing they had for him. The original idea for the ECW show had the same opener with the two but several segments were planned that showed Christian meeting the talent on the brand and putting him over like it was a big thing he was there.
The actual match was booked to be a short sprint for him to shine some more, ending with Swagger getting counted out or some crazy no contest. Vince ended up changing the show to what it ended up being. It was seen internally as Vince having no vision of Christian as a star.

Jim Ross gets Funk(y)
Jim Ross is back with another short blog update on his website, jrsbarbq.com. Here are some of the highlights:
- Piper/Jericho was a compelling segment. Piper spoke from his heart representing how he really feels, in my view, and the promo struck home. Jericho has been awesome in his current role.
- Loved the Funk’s going into the WWE HOF. Fans should really focus on Dory and Terry’s complete body of work as it relates to the often used term of “Hardcore” which seems overused and watered down. The Funk’s were amazing wrestlers in an era completely unlike today’s wrestling scene. Having seen them both in person I can honestly say that in their prime that they would be headlining WWE PPV’s today without question. I’ll have more on these special brothers later this week. Dusty Rhodes, who will no doubt provide a colorful introduction, battled both his Texas brethren in some classic battles. This presentation should be one of the highlights of the HOF, time permitting.
- The end of Raw was perfect. There was nothing I could have said to make the closing minutes better. Loved the drama. It will be interesting TV to see how SD’s HHH will respond to this compelling and personal matter. Personal issues are what built this business and the HHH-Orton matter is damn sure personal.

Ref #3:16?
There has been some speculation of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin wrestling at Wrestlemania 25, but it seems unlikely at this point. Austin has been telling people he would need three months to train for a return since he wants to have the best match possible. Not only that, he wouldn’t want to wrestle the next night after being inducted into the HOF since it’s too similar to what Ric Flair did last year. It’s possible that Austin is working everyone with these comments but it is unlikely. There is also the feeling that if he doesn’t wrestle this year, he will never wrestle again.
However, he will definitely have a role at the event - and not just when they introduce the WWE Hall of Famers.
The buzz backstage is that Austin will be the special guest referee for the WWE Championship Match between Triple H and Randy Orton.

Beer Money firing bit
The Wrestling Observer is reporting that the match taped for this week’s Impact broadcast featuring Beer Money, Inc vs Petey Williams and Eric Young will not be the last of its kind. The bout is a “Loser Leaves Town” match, which will of course see Petey Williams leave the company as he has been released from TNA. This match will most likely happen again in the future with Beer Money when TNA releases talent and needs a storyline angle to write them off TV. The company feels Beer Money is a good heel group to use in the “Loser Leaves Town” match as it both writes the leaving talent off TV and also gains more heat for the tag team.

Booker A$$
Among some of the top wrestlers in TNA, there is said to be very little respect for the company these days, with one wrestler specifically naming Booker T as a prime example. Morale underneath is also said to be down, similar to the atmosphere in World Championship Wrestling during its dying days.
One TNA wrestler offered comments to the Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer regarding the current backstage atmosphere after reading his thoughts on the problems plaguing the organization.
“You hit the nail on the head with the top guys just having no respect for the place,” the TNA wrestler said. “They just d*** around and don’t give a s*** what they do. House shows are an even bigger joke.
Take Booker, when he first came in he was gung ho about helping out the younger guys, contributing to the company and now he’s the worst and doesn’t give a s***.”
There is also a feeling that if the wrestlers on the low end of the card performed as badly as some of the wrestlers being pushed at the moment, they’d be fired. However, the wrestlers working badly week after week remain pushed.
“It all starts with the booking. Like you said, it seems as if they have no care of good or bad.”

Vince hates his leakage
Vince McMahon was said to be irate when word got out that Christian was going to be Jeff Hardy’s attacker so they ended up changing plans with Matt Hardy and Christian switching roles.
On Sunday afternoon before the No Way Out PPV, WWE actually placed a huge tarp around the Elimination Chamber as the wrestlers were planning out their match so none of the crew could see what was going on. WWE was worried that Edge’s role on the show would leak on the internet just like Matt Hardy’s heel turn leaked shortly before the Royal Rumble PPV.

Matt hardly believes in Jeff
- Matt Hardy has posted a blog talking about why he didn’t interfere with Jeff Hardy’s involvement in last night’s Elimination Chamber Match. Hardy wrote: “At No Way Out in Seattle, I gave you the opportunity to win the WWE Title inside of the Elimination Chamber. I listened very closely to what you had to say on Smackdown last week. You said you were going to “move on” and win the WWE Title regardless of what I wanted. You also mentioned that you hoped this issue between us will one day pass over.
So from the bottom of my heart, I didn’t interfere with your Elimination Chamber appearance and/or match. Nor did I need to.. You failed like you always do. I wanted to reinforce to everyone what a failure you truly are-how you can never pull through and succeed in a “big time” atmosphere. How you always choke. It’s nothing new though.”
Hardy added: “I’m afraid the WWE is not big enough for the both of us. I recommend you do the smartest thing possible for your life and livelihood right now. And that’s walk out of the WWE and my life. You have until Friday to make your decision.”

- RAW Superstar “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan was at the Variety Club of Iowa telethon this past weekend in Des Moines.
- WWE.com has updated Sim Snuka’s profile photo to reflect his current plain black T-shirt gimmick. He’s also now being billed from his place of birth, Lā’ie, Hawaii, instead of “The Other Side of the Tracks.” Snuka, as well as Manu, have not appeared on television since their beatdown at the hands of Legacy on the January 12, 2009 episode of Raw. The two second generational wrestlers have not resurfaced at house shows or WWE’s developmental promotion either, so their current status in the company remains in question.

Regal, Punk’s only fan?
- The new WWE Champion Triple H is celebrating his 13th World Title reign as WWE.com’s Superstar of the Day today.
- The dark match before No Way Out last night was Melina defending her WWE Women’s Title successfully against Beth Phoenix.
- According to a fan in attendance, former WWE Diva Amy “Lita” Dumas” was at Friday’s RAW/ECW house show in Los Angeles. The fan saw Lita with a hoodie on, and no one seemed to recognize her. He did, but didn’t want to blow her cover. The fan also saw ZZ Top, Arsenio Hall and Michael Clark Duncan at the event.
- The Daily Star has an interview up with RAW star William Regal talking about his heart scare following WWE’s tour of Europe last November. “I had a bit of a strange episode after the tour – I thought it was a touch of flu, but it turned out to be trouble from years ago with my heart,” Regal told The Star. “When it happened before, I kept it quiet on medication, but this time I had ablation therapy just after Thanksgiving, where they put the tubes up through my hip. I’m not sure if they could have done it years ago!”
Regal also discussed his recent program with CM Punk and he believes they could have done a lot more. “I honestly believe we haven’t scratched the surface on what we can do together,” Regal said. “I’ve been fan of Punk for a long time now. I’d heard about him from his work with ROH. If I liked him before, I’m very impressed now.”
Regal says he doesn’t let anyone else’s opinion of Punk affect him, as he knows what the Intercontinental Champion is capable of in the ring. “It’s been a long time since I found anyone in the ring who I have this sort of special connection with,” Regal said. “His rep doesn’t bother him or me; some like him, some don’t.”

Cena was homeless?
Former World Heavyweight Champion John Cena was interviewed before last night’s No Way Out pay-per-view by Jim Moore of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. You can read the entire article at SeattlePI.NWSource.com. Some highlights:
- Ten years ago this summer, Cena was folding towels and cleaning toilets at Gold’s Gym in Venice Beach, California, while living out of his car.
- Sorry ladies - Cena is engaged and says, “I’m gonna get married this year.”
- Cena wants to be a role model and says it means a lot to him when parents say their kids look up to him. “I don’t know when it happened, but nowadays it seems like nobody cares,” Cena said. “Our main figures are collapsing around us. People don’t seem to know that other people are watching them.”
- What happened with Alex Rodriguez and the steroids revelations sickened him. He actually thinks if everyone really wants to get serious about cleaning up the game, “they should send the guys to jail.” As for steroids, Cena understands why his incredible physique may draw some steroid speculation. “I’m not only a guy who will say I’m clean, but I’ll beat my chest to the world that I’m clean,” he said. “I have very, very strong opinions on that.”
- With his movie career taking off, Cena seems to like the idea that he could be the next Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone action star. “That’s a giant void in cinema,” Cena said. “Everywhere I go, the question is always: ‘Who’s the next guy?’ I think I’m damn near the closest thing to come around the pike.” Wow, is he serious?

TNA
Another TNA FAIL Game?
- Several TNA stars worked the New Japan event this past Sunday. Beer Money defeated Masahiro Chono & AKIRA, Kurt Angle defeated Giant Bernard and Team 3D defended their IWGP Tag Titles against Toru Yano & Togi Makabe. Angle will be challenging IWGP Champion Hiroshi Tanahashi on Japan on March April 5th, the day of WrestleMania.
- TNA is expected to be signing new Knockouts soon.
- Satanico el Exotico is scheduled for the TNA iMPACT tapings next week.
- Jakks will begin working on TNA’s action figure line next month in preparation for their January 2010 release.
- Despite Midway Games filing for bankruptcy and owing TNA several thousand dollars, they have began work on TNA’s next video game as late as a few weeks ago. It’s believed they are trying to get the game done and out as soon as possible so it can be credited to Midway’s assets.
- Word going around Puerto Rico is that TNA has purchased a stake in IWA Puerto Rico, but it may just be an angle they are doing down there. LAX won the IWA Tag Team Titles last week and Samoa Joe also worked for the promotion last week. Speaking of Puerto Rico, TNA has a live event scheduled there on 3/20.
