WWE

Tommy Dreamer Posts Thank-You Note

I just have to go on record and say we did it. I have thank each and every person from the WWE Universe. Your never ending support got me through the most trying time in my life. This was my Oscar, Game seven and Superbowl all wrapped up into one and it became my greatest accomplishment ever.

I can not tell you how many text messages, phone calls and emails I have gotten. The reaction from the WWE Superstars and the amazing WWE staff and production crew that evening was overwhelming. It was such an emotional night and every day is a blessing. To have my name in The New York Daily News as a headline and everyone saying hey Champ or congrats Champ is like reliving the moment all over again every time I hear it.

I would like to take this time to thank some people specifically:

To each and every wrestler that bled, sweat and bumped to pave the way for me. I have been hooked since I was nine years old and still a huge fan. From Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, The Road Warriors to the  Legendary Brooklyn Brawler. You all molded my mind and set me on my path.

To Dusty Rhodes. You are the reason I was hooked. You made me belive in my dream. You are my Babe Ruth,Marlon Brando and Joe Montana all wrapped into one.

To Terry Funk. My hardcore mentor. You gave me the greatest advice ever. Your hard work and passion for the business is inspiring.

To WWE Hall of Famer Johnny Rodz. Thanks for training me and giving me the fundamentals for this amazing career.

To Paul Heyman. You gave me the platform to be me and for taking a chance on a good looking kid from Yonkers. You taught me things about this buisness and took me into the studio when that was taboo. Thanks for the lessons.

To Beulah McGillicutty. You stuck by me through it all. I appreciate your dedication to are family.

To Christian. Thanks for being a great champion and giving me the title opportunity.

To Jack Swagger for being a great heel. Your constant jabs at me and wanting everyone to know how good you are have made you my perfect opponent. People love watching me pin you.

Speaking of opponents a special thanks to Raven for showing me that persitance pays off in the end.

To Mick Foley. Your hardcore passion and mind made me want to be better. You proved that someone with and a$$ bigger than mine can be World Champ. Seriously you did alot for me and I will never forget it

Speaking of giant a$$es to the Dudley Boys. Your friendship and constant stealing of the shows is still enjoyable to watch. Wow I just though about Mick, Dudleys and I are all champions at once. The word Heavyweight Champion really applies.

To Danny Davis(OVW) who made me feel like a rookie every Wed. You made me want to better myself when I was down about my career.

To Every ECW Original especially RVD, Sabu, Sandman, Stevie Richards, Balls Mahoney, Danny Doring, crazy Little Guido, Francine, Shane Douglas, Jack Victory, CW Anderson and Sign Guy. I wish we were all together enjoying the road again.

Legend Wrestler Mitsuhara Misawa Dead At 47

According to f4wonline.com Mitsuhara Misawa died Saturday night in Japan at the age of 47. Reports say that Misawa was teaming up with Go Shiozaki against Bison Smith and Akitoshi Saito for the GHC tag team belts when a back suplex in which he landed on his head, left Misawa unconscious in the ring.

He was taken to the hospital shortly thereafter but doctors were unable to revive him as his heart stopped while in the ring.

New JR Blog!

It feels as if I just got home and now it’s time to pack and leave Sunday for a flight to Charlotte where all three WWE brands will be a part of Raw’s 3 For All Monday night on the USA Network. It starts one hour early and it seems that most people usually forget the early start time. Perhaps if one specific match was advertised to kick off the night it would give the viewers something tangible to remember other than Raw is starting one hour early. BBQ’ed Random Thoughts…

I had a great phone conversation with the legendary Stan “The Lariat” Hansen from his home in Waco, Texas on Friday. Stan was up my way in OKC a few weeks ago while his son Shaver was playing baseball for the Baylor Bears in the Big 12 Tournament but we were unable to hook up. Stan, 60 years old, is doing great and making a few autograph conventions from time to time and getting ready to watch his younger son play college baseball for the University of Texas at Arlington. We talked old times specifically when Stan and Frank “Bruiser Brody” Goodish were a young, physical tag team in Mid South Wrestling for Bill Watts. Watts wanted to separate the two big bruisers which they did not like. Stan told me that even though both he and Brody were not willing to split at that time that they both realized years later that Watts was correct when he said that both men would make much more money as single stars than as a tag team. Hansen and Goodish/Brody had an eventful, short run in Memphis that ended not long after they wrestled the team of Jerry Lawler and Austin Idol. Idol told Lawler that if Idol ever had to wrestle either Hansen or Brody again that Idol was quitting the wrestling business for good. Indeed, Stan Hansen and Bruiser Brody were physical, athletic, big men who asked no quarter and certainly gave none. I actually refereed many of their matches in the mid 70’s. Hansen delivered the most devastating close line I ever witnessed and I have seen a few including JBL’s “Close Line from Hell.”

Stan’s son Shaver was the 6th round draft pick of the Seattle Mariners of Major League Baseball and is a power hitting 3rd baseman. I have promised to buy the BBQ the next time Stan and his family are in Norman of which I look forward.

Mitsuharu Misawa was never an acquaintance of mine but I felt like I knew him from watching many of his DVD’s which were usually with men that I did know. Misawa was arguably the best in ring performer in the world in his prime. First of all, Misawa knew how to wrestle and how to wrestle physically. The fundamentals had been drilled into this legend as a young man who went on to become a Japanese National Amateur Champion. Several things stood out to me about Misawa. In addition to be a physical, fundamentally sound athlete, timing and toughness were two of his greatest attributes. Great timing is a gift that largely can’t be taught. It’s like ring psychology. Some of it can be taught but mostly it must be a learned trait and some people are in the business for years and never learn great timing or main event level ring psychology. Toughness is another trait that can be nurtured but generally can’t be taught. Misawa was naturally tough and it showed. And his fans loved him for it. They also loved his passion and the emotional ride on which he would take them. That’s what pro wrestling is, selling emotion.

Another significant piece of Japanese, wrestling history died this weekend. Mitsuharu Misawa apparently died in the very spot that he gained his incredible fame and resounding respect from wrestling fans around the Globe….inside a wrestling ring.

It’s a damn shame that the vast majority of American wrestling fans won’t give a second thought about the untimely death of “a Japanese wrestler.” I encourage all fans to find DVD’s of Misawa and watch him in his prime, in the 90’s especially. If one is really serious about about being a highly skilled, pro wrestler, then study the late Mitsuharu Misawa.

May he rest in peace.

I have updated our Q&A section of the website. I also deleted a load of tomes that were WAY too long to consider answering. Please be succinct as 3-5 sentences should get it done. Assume I have A.D.D. and keep your questions and comments succinct. Thank you.

Mrs. J.R. and I attended the Toby Keith and Friends fund raiser for Ally’s House which supports children with cancer and their families. Lots of my friends were there including former OU and Dallas Cowboys Coach Barry Switzer, current OU Football Coach Bob Stoops, former OU and NFL star Joe Washington and about 20 other former Sooners and NFL stars and Olympian Bart Connor. My friend, ESPN’s Nancy Lieberman, whose son T.J. is a big WWE fan, was on hand as was former MLB pitcher Roger Clemens who is always friendly with me even though we kid each other about the Oklahoma-Texas football rivalry as “The Rocket” is a UT alum.

I admire people from all walks of life who volunteer to be a part of any worthwhile cause. Science has proven, by the way, that people who volunteer their time to help others actually live longer. For the record, one doesn’t have to be a “celebrity” to be a volunteer.

We have some NEW, Camo shirts for ladies in stock as well as some cool looking Camo caps for men and women one of which I wore today to J.R.’s Family BBQ and got some favorable feedback. Take a look at them and remember that we are selling a case of affordable, delicious “J.R.’s Original BBQ Sauce” and WE pay the shipping to selected areas.

WWE had a huge, sellout of over 14,000 fans at an outdoor stadium in Nimes, France Saturday night that grossed well over $800,000 to see the superstars of Raw in person. The crew will arrive back in the States on Sunday and then have to gear up for a 3 hour Raw on Monday. Whew.

I haven’t commented much on the Umaga situation here but I have addressed that matter and many similar issues in the Q&A section. Nonetheless, I have been asked what is next for Umaga? I don’t have an answer as the man himself is the only one who can provide that info. I do hope that Umaga takes the time to carefully think things through and to evaluate all aspects of his life and not just his wrestling career. Umaga has been blessed with many athletic skills but nothing compares to the blessings of having a wonderful family which has to come first in any of our major decisions.

Can you believe that we still get a ton of emails about the “Montreal Screw Job” of November 1997? Did you know that WWE will be back in Montreal on September 13 for a PPV? Will 1997 somehow be revisited in the ring? I don’t have a clue but if so it will continue to feed this “12 year old monster” that seemingly has a life of its own. For the record, the last time I talked to Bret Hart “the Montreal Screw Job” wasn’t at the center of our conversation.

What ever happens on September 13 happens as my biggest concern about that September date is getting there the day of the event after watching OU play football in Norman the day before. It will be another travel adventure due to football. Priorities, folks.

Hey, Raw starts an hour early this Monday and you wouldn’t want to miss a Friday Night Smackdown offering which theoretically could go on in the first hour. Todd Grisham is likely to wear a new suit and considering we had zero on-cameras Thursday or Friday night, I told him working with me might be the kiss of death, we’re due. I’ll be the Okie in the black hat.

ROH

ROH Newswire

- June 3rd: In case you happened to miss the main page announcement yesterday (http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2835), ROH and Pro Wrestling NOAH representatives have come together to make the match that people have been wishing for: KENTA versus Tyler Black! The potential in this match is off the charts, and it has been signed for 6/27 in Chicago. Don’t be left out! There can only be one “first time match” between these two! Get your tickets now!

- Colt Cabana has been waiting for the right time to make move on D’Lo Brown. Brown, who defeated Cabana under suspicious circumstances at Supercard of Honor IV, hasn’t made many friends in ROH since debuting, and now he’s going to have to face Cabana again. “D’Lo as a Chicago guy that ‘made it’ was someone we all could look up to when we were younger,” said Cabana. “But when I met him, and obviously when I wrestled him, those feelings, that admiration went bye-bye. Now in Detroit he’s gonna get what’s coming to him.” It’ll be Cabana versus Brown in Detroit on June 27th!

- Good news for Ring of Honor fans with a Sony Playstation 3 console. Ring of Honor Wrestling on HDNet is now available for download in the Sony Playstation 3 Online Store at a very reasonable price. The Standard Definition broadcast is $1.99, while the full High Definition broadcast is $2.99. ROH extends a big thank you to Sony and HDNet for making this possible.

- Signed for the next set of National TV Tapings for Ring of Honor Wrestling on HDNet in Philadelphia on June 19th and 20th are: ROH World Champion Jerry Lynn (6/20 only), Kevin Steen, El Generico, Sami Callihan, Roderick Strong, The Dark City Fight Club, Claudio Castagnoli, Kenny Omega (6/19 only), and Davey Richards. Tickets are on sale and available now at www.rohwrestling.com.

- Josh Raymond and Christin Able have been cutting their teeth for some time on the independent tag team circuit, and have impressed ROH officials, notably during the last swing through Canada. Now the cantankerous Michigan natives have taken their biggest step to date in ROH, signing for the biggest match of their careers on June 26th. Their opponents? Former ROH World Tag Team Champions – Kevin Steen and El Generico! Generico’s knee was obviously still an issue at the latest ROH on HDNet Television Tapings. Could Able and Raymond shock the world in Detroit?

- The latest commercial for this weekend’s episode of ROH on HDNet can be seen at http://blip.tv/file/2185706/. If you don’t get HDNet, call your cable provider! Demand to see ROH on HDNet in your town!

- Signed for Chicago on June 27th is a Four Corner Survival pitting a variety of personalities against one another. It’ll be “Addicted to Love” Rhett Titus squaring off against Sami Callihan, the returning Egotistico Fantastico, and a man that has been on a role since finally splitting from the Age of the Fall – Delirious! Will Delirious continue his winning ways in Chicago?

- For those of you who purchased ROH’s “7th Anniversary Show” DVD, we thank you very much for your purchase. It has come to our attention that there are technical issues on some of the discs. If you have one of these faulty discs, please refer to http://www.rohwrestling.com/MessageBoard/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=47757 for information on how to get that disc replaced. Thank you in advance for your patience while we resolve these issues.

- The 25% Off Sale continues until Friday morning at 10am at ROHWrestling.com. You can save on all DVD’s, live event tickets, apparel, & much more. For the complete details along with the discount code click here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2215.

TNA

TNA Releases a Superstar

Appears that rumors that TNA quietly released Shane Sewell recently may be true as he’s no longer pictured on the TNA roster page.  Sewell, aka “Glamor Boy” Shane started with TNA as a referee then was moved to a wrestling spot in an angle with Sheik Bashir, then back to refereeing, then vanished altogether.  He is listed still under referees on the page but TNA creative did not have plans to use him as a ref, rather as a wrestler, but that didn’t really go anywhere.

ROH

ROH Newswire!

El Generico cleared to return, Danielson vs. Black III signed for ROH TV, Nigel McGuinness returning, more!

- May 20th Newswire: In case you missed the big news, we now know that Tyler Black has selected to face Jimmy Jacobs in a Steel Cage Match on June 26th in Detroit! The announcement of Black’s choice was made yesterday afternoon in the main page article entitled “Disappointment?” (http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2810). The article begs the question – what is going through the mind of Jimmy Jacobs? Between the First Blood match signed for June 13th at the Hammerstein, and now this brutal cage match, one has to wonder. Tickets for both New York and Detroit are on sale now at www.rohwrestling.com ! And don’t forget that ROH Ambassador Ric Flair will be on hand in both cities!

- The latest Ring of Honor Video Wire is up and available for viewing at http://www.you-tube.com/watch?v=PXJlX8dVMYA&fmt=18 , with words from Chris Hero, the American Wolves w/ Shane Hagadorn, World Champion Jerry Lynn, ROH Ambassador Ric Flair, and a look at this week’s episode of ROH on HDNet!

- El Generico contacted ROH officials late yesterday after seeing another orthopedic surgeon for his injured knee. While he has a meniscus tear, and the possibility of surgical repair still exists, doctors have medically cleared Generico to perform! And perform he will! He will be on hand for the May 29th and 30th ROH on HDNet National Television tapings in Philly, and will be involved in the 5th of the 6 main events to be filmed. And revenge will be on his mind as the American Wolves will team with “that Young Knockout Kid” Chris Hero to take on Kevin Steen, the returning El Generico, and KENTA! Tickets are available now at www.rohwrestling.com . This 6 Man Tag Team match is a main event anywhere in the world!

- Get ready Manassas, with Generico’s clearance yesterday comes a tremendous tag team match for June 12th. The knee of Generico will be tested as he and Kevin Steen will team to face Nick and Matt Jackson, the Young Bucks! If the Bucks can score the upset in Manassas, they will be well on their way to securing a permanent spot in the ROH tag team division! Tickets are on sale now!

- The 6th and final television main event has also been signed, and it will pit two of the very best in the world against one another for the third time. The first bout went to a brilliant time limit draw. The second incredible match ended in a double countout. Since then, these men have teamed and wrestled an absolute classic for the World Tag Team Titles. On May 30th in Philly at the Arena it will be Danielson-Black III. And should Black and Danielson defeat the American Wolves on the 29th, there is the intriguing possibility that this match could feature the ROH World Tag Team Champions against each other! One thing is for certain, this match promises to be another can’t miss classic. Get your tickets now at www.rohwrestling.com !

- Are you keeping up with ROH on Twitter? Visit twitter.com/rohonhdnet and stay informed!

- Speaking of Tyler Black, he was set to face Jerry Lynn for the ROH World Title before a lingering neck injury put him on the shelf. Now in Manassas on June 12th, he’s signed once again to face Lynn. But this time, it is going to be a non-title match. “Tyler is a great athlete,” said Lynn. “And on any other occasion I’d gladly put the title up. But I’m preparing for Austin Aries on June 13th. This will be my biggest test on my biggest stage. Tyler will have his chance again, believe me.” While Tyler isn’t happy about the match being non-title, he understands. “I know Jerry is preparing for Aries, just like I’m preparing for Jacobs. In fact, I can help him be ready for Austin. But Jerry better be ready in Manassas, because whether or not we both have other battles on our mind, I’m going to be prepared to beat him. Title or not.” Should Black and Danielson capture the tag titles in Philadelphia, their scheduled matches in Manassas and New York will change.

- ROH officials are happy to announce that former World Champion, Nigel McGuinness, will be on hand in Manassas and New York. He will make an appearance on both events.

- In Boston, Jimmy Rave and the Embassy attacked the Necro Butcher and the “crown jewel” disgustingly insulted Necro by repeatedly spitting in his face. In Edison, Rave showed his true colors by doing everything he could to avoid the madman. But now he won’t have the chance to run or hide behind anyone, as signed for New York on June 13th is Jimmy Rave versus the Necro Butcher in singles competition! Prince Nana left the door open by not keeping his eye on an open contract that Rave signed for the date, and word has it that Colt Cabana was the one that noticed it. “I will take care of Boo Boo Cabana in due time,” said the Prince. “He has put my crown jewel in harm ways, but that hillbilly Butcher will not harm a hair on Jimmy Rave’s head in that dump New York City. I will see to it.”

- The following talents will be on hand when Ring of Honor returns to Detroit on June 26th and Chicago on June 27th: Austin Aries, Davey Richards, Brent Albright, Colt Cabana, D’Lo Brown, Bryan Danielson, Delirious with Daizee Haze, and “Skullkrusher” Rasche Brown. These names are in addition to the previous announcement of Petey Williams, Joey Ryan, KENTA, and “Nature Boy” Ric Flair. More talent and match announcements will be forthcoming. Tickets to both events are on sale now at www.rohwrestling.com !

- Just two days remain in the BIG TEN SALE. You can purchase tickets for all live events in June for only $10 each, purchase over 100 DVD’s priced at $10 each, plus save 10% Off your next order. For complete details click here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=860 .

Judgement Day PPV Results!

Report by Jason Powell and ProWrestling.net

WWE Judgment Day 5/17/09
Chicago, Ill. at the All State Arena

The show opened with a video that hyped the various matches while playing on the Judgment Day theme.

Fireworks exploded on the state to kick off the show live in the building. Jim Ross introduced the show and noted that there are 14,822 fans in attendance.

1. Umaga defeated C.M. Punk in 11:55. Todd Grisham checked in with J.R. and they’ll call the first match together. Ross said he has no idea why Umaga has so much rage when it comes to Punk. The live crowd popped big for the hometown Punk and chanted his name to start the match. The ring ropes are are white in a nice change of pace.

Umaga caught Punk with a twisting slam less than a minute in. Punk came up holding his shoulder. The live crowd picked up the “C.M. Punk” chant again. Grisham noted that Punk can cash in his Money in the Bank contract at any time.

Punk sold heavily in the opening minutes and then hit a plancha onto Umaga at ringside. Punk hit some of his signature spots including a knee-lift and a heel kick. He came back with a running knee to the head at 9:30. Punk hit a bulldog off the second rope and went for a cover, but Umaga threw him off.

Later, Punk went for the GTS, but couldn’t lift his opponent. Umaga caught Punk with a kick and then followed up by slamming his backside into Punk’s head in the corner. Umaga used the Samoan Spike and scored the 1-2-3 on Punk. Grisham put over Umaga’s performance as “the most impressive return you’ll see.”

Backstage, Chavo Guerrero told Vickie Guerrero that John Cena had received medical clearance to compete. Big Show stood up and warned Vickie that she would lose Cena to the injured list just as she lost Triple H. She said the company is bigger than any individual and that someone else would step up. “Yeah, I know who will step up,” Show said. He started to leave the room, but bumped into Edge, who said he was there to speak with his wife. Show and Chavo left the room to give an uncomfortable looking Vickie some alone time with Edge.

Josh Matthews and Matt Striker narrated highlights of Christian beating Jack Swagger to win the ECW Title at the Backlash pay-per-view.

2. Christian defeated Jack Swagger at 9:35 to retain the ECW Title. Matthews and Striker on commentary. Good aggressive action to start. They went to ringside early. Swagger picked up Christian and threw him into the ring post. Cool spot. Back in the ring, they slowed things down temporarily, as Swagger locked Christian in a leg scissors.

Both men traded good near falls between 8:00 and 9:00. A short time later, Christian rolled up Swagger and then held the tights for the win. After the match, the announcers pointed out that Swagger held the tights while going for a pin earlier in the match.

Backstage, Edge left the room and bitched to Chavo about not stepping in when Santina called Vickie a pig.

A shot aired of several Chicago Bears sitting at ringside.

3. John Morrison defeated Shelton Benjamin (w/Charlie Haas) in 10:10. Ross and Grisham on commentary for the Smackdown match. Less than two minutes in, Morrison used the top rope as a springboard and performed a 450 splash/dive onto Shelton at ringside. They slowed things down in a hurry back in the ring and the crowd got quiet in a hurry.

At 9:00, Shelton caught Morrison leaping off the rope in a powerbomb position. He stumbled as he ran with him and threw him into the far corner. Scary move, but Morrison landed in the right position. Later, Morrison knocked Haas off the ring apron and followed up with the flying Chuck Kick (his tribute to Chuck Norris). Morrison hit his Starship Pain (split-legged corkscrew moonsault).

A WrestleMania 25 DVD ad aired. The DVD comes out on Tuesday.

The Miz’s music played and he strutted to the ring. We heard from Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler for the first time. Not so nice. In the ring, Miz told the crowd to “give it up for Marty Jannetty, oh, I mean John Morrisson.”

The crowd gave Miz the “What” treatment. He acknowledged it and said they sounded like a bunch of ducks. Miz quacked at the crowd. The crowd booed and then chanted, “You suck.” He responded by saying, “I haven’t heard that one before.” Miz said that since he can’t wrestle John Cena tonight, he was going to challenge someone comparable. He called Cena a “lovable loser, much like the Chicago Cubs.”

Miz pointed out Cubs outfielder Alfonso Soriano sitting in the front row. Miz noted that Soriano does Cena’s “You can’t see me” hand gesture after he hits a home run. Miz said the hand gesture really means, “You can’t see a World Series ring as long as you play for the Cubs.” Miz said it was a cheap line and therefore he wanted to apologize to anyone who was around in 1908 to see the Cubs win the World Series.

Miz challenged Soriano to serve as a Cena surrogate by facing him in a match. Miz excused himself and said he received a phone call. “Forget it, Alfonso, that was Lou Pinella,” Miz said. “He said you can’t do it because he’d rather you get your annual injury on the field rather than off.” Miz said that since Soriano couldn’t wrestle and was supposed to be a fill-in for Cena, he’s therefore 4-0 against Cena.

Santino Marella’s entrance music played and he came to the ring to confront Miz. Santino took offense to Miz mocking Soriano because he assumed it was an Italian name. Soriano laughed in the crowd. Santino said some WWE wrestlers look like animals. He said Vickie looks like a pig, and Santino looks like the muppet eagle. He said Miz looks like a jackass.

Miz said he had no problem kicking Santino’s ass. Santino said he hopes Miz brought a metal detector. He said he brought some guns and pulled the sleeves off his t-shirt. Miz punched Santino, who fired back. Miz laid out Santino with a DDT. The crowd booed.

As Miz was leaving the ring, Chavo Guerrero ran out and yelled at the fallen Santino. Chavo went up top and Frogsplashed Santino. Chavo yelled, “You’re the pig now, Santino”.

Backstage, Josh Matthews interviewed Chris Jericho, who tore into Rey Mysterio and the fans. He led the fans to chant “619″ via his heel promo. He vowed that there would not be a 619 tonight, and guaranteed that there would be a new Intercontinental Champion.

4. Rey Mysterio pinned Chris Jericho to retain the Intercontinental Title in 12:30. At 6:00, Jericho caught Rey in a Torture Rack. He spun around and then dropped down to his knees. Jericho went for the cover, but Rey kicked out. Later, Jericho went for the Walls of Jericho, but Rey blocked it. Jericho hit tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for a near fall.

At 10:15, Rey went for the 619, but Jericho caught him and immediately applied the Walls of Jericho. The live crowd cheered like crazy for Jericho applying the hold. Rey tried to crawl toward the ropes, but Jericho pulled him back. Rey slipped out and caught Jericho in an inside cradle for a near fall.

Rey ran at Jericho, who threw him into the air and caught him in a powerbomb slam for another great near fall. Later, Jericho got his head slammed into the turnbuckle and dropped down to his knees. Rey hit the 619 and then followed up with an awesome top rope splash for the clean pin. The crowd popped big for Rey getting the pin.

A video recapped Randy Orton’s latest exploits and his feud with Batista.

Randy Orton made a slow ring entrance. Batista came out with a big cut on his forehead.

5. Batista defeated Randy Orton by DQ in a WWE Title match in 14:50. The crowd popped big for Batista’s entrance. They quieted down once the match started. Orton applied the chinlock of death, but he didn’t keep it locked in as long as usual. After some back and forth action, Batista took control. At 13:15, Orton grabbed the belt and tried to leave.

Batista ran to ringside and grabbed Randy. Batista threw Orton back inside the ring and hit the spinebuster. Batista went for the Batista Bomb, but Randy punched him in the head until he released him. Orton went for the RKO, but Batista pushed him off. At 14:40, Batista shoved Orton into the corner and he stopped just short of running into the referee.

Batista grabbed Randy from behind, and Orton slapped the referee across the face for the DQ. Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes ran out and attacked Batista. “Whoooooooo!” played over the house p.a. system. Ric Flair’s entrance music played and he headed to the ring to save Batista. Flair threw punches at the Legacy members and eventually helped Batista clear the ring.

Cole and Lawler popped for Flair at ringside and then introduced a video that focussed on the John Cena vs. Big Show feud.

6. John Cena pinned Big Show in 15:00. Show dominated the first five minutes of the match and then tossed Cena to ringside. Show continued to dominate as then reentered the ring. Cena went for a bulldog at 6:15, but Show just pushed him away. Lawler noted that the match was all Show and that Cena had yet to hit any big moves.

At 8:00, Big Show applied what Cole referred to as a “gargantuan bear hug.” Cena eventually broke free and Cole put over Cena’s “amazing power.” Show shoved Cena to the mat again. When Cena stood up, Show ran at him, turned around, and slammed his backside into Cena.

At 10:00, Cena finally connected with a couple of punches and took down Show with a neck breaker. Cena did the “You can’t see me” bit and connected with the five knuckle shuffle. However, Show stood up and grabbed Cena by the throat. Show went for the chokeslam, but Cena slipped out and DDT’d Show.

Cena applied the STF, but Show broke free and came right back with a big clothesline. Show dragged Cena to the corner and hit the Vader Bomb, but Cena kicked out at two. Cole said Cena kicked out after “literally being squashed.” He said he didn’t know a better way to put it.

Later, Show kicked Cena to ringside and then tried to bring him back in the ring, but Cena went on offense and ended up hitting a leg drop off the second rope. He went for the STF again, but Show broke it up. “It can’t be done!” Lawler exclaimed. Show picked up Cena in powerbomb position, but dropped him over his head and drove him into the mat instead.

Show stood up and signified that he was going for the knockout punch. Cena slowly stood up. Show went for the punch, but Cena avoided it. Cena used the Attitude Adjustment and scored the clean pin. The announcers raved about it as a “miracle victory.” Cena headed to ringside and hugged Alfonso Soriano.

An ad aired for Terminator Salvation.

Grisham and Ross hyped the Extreme Rules pay-per-view for June 7 in New Orleans.

A video aired to promote the Edge vs. Jeff Hardy match.

7. Edge pinned Jeff Hardy to retain the World Hvt. Championship in 19:55. Justin Roberts handled the in-ring introductions for the title match. Scott Armstrong is the referee.

Good back and forth action to start. Hardy hit a nice kick onto a seated Edge for a near fall at 9:30. He came back a short time later with a crossbody block off the top rope for a better near fall. At 11:00, Hardy applied the Sharpshooter, but Edge reached the ropes. At 11:30, Edge hit the Twist of Fate for a near fall.

At 12:30, Hardy ran toward the corner and used the ropes to press himself up for a kick on the seated Edge, but Edge stood up, caught Hardy, and powerbombed him. The announcers noted that Hardy was showing signs of frustration.

Both wrestlers went to ringside and Hardy dismantled part of the ringside barrier. Hardy ran the rail, but Edge recovered and ran off the announcers desk and speared Hardy in mid-air. Hardy landed on the ring barrier he dismantled and it ended up providing him with a nice cushion. Hardy struggled to get up. The ref counted, but Hardy made it back in the ring at the nine count.

At 16:30, Hardy hit the Twist of Fate and went for another cover, but Edge stuck his leg on the rope to break it up. They ended up back at ringside. With the referee distracted, Matt Hardy showed up out of nowhere and clubbed his brother over the back of the head with his cast. Edge rolled Hardy back inside the ring and went for the cover, but Jeff kicked out.

Hardy came back and went up top for the Swanton. Edge recovered and caught Hardy on the ropes. Edge hit the Edgecution off the ropes and scored the clean pin to win the match. Edge celebrated with his title belt while trainers tended to Hardy in the ring to close the show…

New JR Blog

Here’s hoping that everyone is having a great day. The weekend is upon us and then it is back on the road for me as I leave Monday for Dayton, Ohio to prepare for another taping of Friday Night Smackdown. The smoker is fired up so let’s get rolling with some BBQ’ed random thoughts…..

For those that have made comments on my most recent Smackdown blog on WWE.com and that took ALL my comments seriously, as Michael Cole would say, “Please, stop the pain.” Humor, or attempts thereof, take many forms and my intent with that particular blog, as I try to do more often than not when I write, is to have fun.

Because I am pro choice & pro same sex marriage, does that mean I have to like all intergender wrestling matches because I don’t. BTW that’s as much as I will ever discuss politics or religion on this site. We aren’t here to address the world’s problems or to change the direction that wrestling is or isn’t traveling.

Tag team wrestling. Seems like it has become topical over the past few days. We have received a fair amount of feedback on this site regarding it. Again, I reiterate that I am a fan of tag team wrestling or should I say good, tag team wrestling. It really doesn’t matter who says what company is or is not prioritizing tag teams because until an established tag team headlines a PPV then it seems to me that tag teams, no matter how good they are, are still viable, important, semi main/under-card contributors. A resurgence of long arcing, tag team issues that culminate with those teams squaring off on PPV main events or even co-main events would suit me just fine but until then it is what it is.

Friday Night Smackdown provided the most compelling elements of WGN America’s WWE Superstar broadcast Thursday night. Edge ’s verbal skills continue to just get better and better and wait until you hear Edge’s guest commentary on Friday Night Smackdown during the main event featuring Jeff Hardy vs. Chris Jericho.

Is this WWE fan LeBron James year to lead his Cavs to the NBA Title? I vividly remember “King James” attending a Monday Night Raw at the then Gund Arena in Cleveland his rookie year. We had a nice chat after the event walking to our vehicles and he signed my TV format that night. Really a classy young man as all have seen with his many TV interviews, etc. Since then LeBron has provided me a signed basketball and a signed Cav’s home jersey that we will eventually display at J.R.’s Family BBQ in Norman, Oklahoma. LeBron is a great example of what is really good about pro sports and is a young man who knows he has been blessed with amazing gifts and doesn’t take that fact for granted.

I saw on the ‘net that it was May 8 (that’s today as I write this) 2006 that was the date that I came back to Monday Night Raw full time after battling a colon cancer issue. 2005 was an interesting year for me and I got a huge break considering my tumor was not malignant. Fans still write about “Dr. Heiney”, etc and all that sort of stuff expecting me to rant about it but I am so much more thankful that I am cancer free and still alive that all that other stuff that has happened on TV is no more than a dot on my personal, radar screen.

Somehow some idiot will go on another’s website message board and turned my preceding statement into me “bitching” about not being on Raw and being “stuck’ on Friday Night Smackdown which reeks of  some having a chronic case of the “dumbass.”

A-Rod returns to the Yankees lineup Friday. Does any one outside the world of pin stripes care? Alex Rodriquez can;t have any thing short of a great year for 1. the Yankees to battle their way into the playoffs and 2. to do the right thing by his teammates and fans after creating such a firestorm with his off the field BS of a few months ago. Hearing less from A-Rod in the near future on any subject might be something #13 should consider.

I got a nice email recently from Torrie Wilson who is on NBC’s newest reality show that starts imminently. She’ll be in a Costa Rica jungle with a slew of other celeb’s with the object to see who can last the 30 days as I understand the premise. Torrie isn’t a “dumb blond” by any stretch of the imagination and is dead set on proving that fact on her reality show opportunity. Torrie is in amazing physical condition which will help her cause in less than Marriott surroundings in the jungle. She sent us an autographed swimsuit to display in our BBQ joint and I have this revelation, the swim wear did not consist of an overabundance of material.

Speaking of lovely, smart and sexy WWE Divas, it is amazing how many folks check out the Daily Diva section of www.wwe.com. And I’m not even counting how many times the King logs in, so to speak.

From my days associated with the Atlanta Falcons in the early 90’s, I got to know Bret Favre  and found him to be one helluva guy. Tough minded, competitive and a super guy to be around. But he’s a football player who loves to play the game. Bret was put on Planet Earth to be a quarterback. All great players, wrestlers too, have difficulties knowing when to hang up their gear. Let’s all remember that it was the media that started the Favre to Minnesota story, not Bret. He seems to have made it clear that he is retired, yes I know that he’s said it before, but this time I think he will stay retired. He certainly doesn’t need the paycheck and I do know personally that he loves his off time hunting and fishing. Plus, what network wouldn’t love to have the future Hall of Famer in their broadcast booth or studio if he’s “football bored” and wants to stay associated with the game? NBC’s brilliant Dick Ebersol is likely already all over this one.

There was a time in my life when I was joined by several Atlanta Falcons on a regular basis and we thought that we could drink all the Crown Royal in Atlanta but we failed miserably. Thank goodness I met Mrs. J.R. about that time or my life story, if I were able to remember it, might resemble a sad, country song. A party can be found in Hotlanta every night even without seeking one out.

I think the HBK vs. Undertaker Wrestlemania 25 match could be made into one helluva documentary styled DVD. I know some of the biggest stars in the biz who would love to talk about it including some of the HOF’ers who were present that day. This match will live forever in the annals of WWE and should be celebrated sooner than later even though both men are on hiatus for the time being.

Manny Ramirez really screwed up. Duh. How could Manny’s doctor accidentally violate the MLB drug policy so blatantly and not be remotely aware of what he or she was doing? Will Ramirez seek restitution from his doctor for the $7M Manny is losing as a result of his suspension. Highly unlikely. Everyone should stop the insanity and just say no and work within a zero tolerance or something damn near it.

WWE’s much anticipated DVD release of “The Rise and Fall of WCW” will no doubt create controversy which in turns creates cash. Where have I heard that before? Some have refused to be interviewed for this project which is understandable for many who have already discussed the topic endlessly. I would have personally liked to have heard Bill Shaw’s thoughts, and I use that term loosely, but he declined. This DVD, as I understand it, will focus more on the WCW side of this equation from those who were there. I wasn’t there when it “fell” and arguably wasn’t there when it “rose” but I came in to WCW with the original class and discussed my tenure in Atlanta which was more positive than negative. It will be interesting to see how much of my contributions to the DVD will make air. For the record, I don’t “blame” any one from the old, WCW regime for not wanting to be involved in this process and for a variety of reasons. I do know that this DVD is getting tons of internal attention and I fully anticipate that it will be a compelling DVD and one that I can’t wait to watch.

What will you bet that the Rick Pitino to the Sacramento Kings story isn’t being fueled by rival colleges who want to hurt Louisville’s recruiting efforts? The same thing usually happens every December, more often than not it seems to come from the Dallas Morning News, regarding Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops leaving the Sooners. Bob has been at OU since ‘99 and has no plans on leaving any time soon but  those sort of stories do adversely affect recruiting as kids are kids and are impressionable and are also more media savvy than any other generation.

A Terry Funk Roast is being planned for October in New Jersey which I am sure will be a blast. I love the idea of doing Roasts on DVD but with WWE being PG rated and Roasts usually not being, it wouldn’t be a good fit on that particular platform. Nonetheless I am betting a slab of ribs that the Terry Funk Roast will be a fun event to attend and wish the promoters well.

Cowboy Bill Watts turned 70 this past week. He’s still feeling great and going strong. Bill “understood his audience” better than the vast majority of his peers in wrestling and was a real student of ring psychology. Cowboy wasn’t a great in ring performer, better than he’s often described as being, but not great. But he made fans believe and he knew how to promote himself particularly w/ mic time. How many wrestlers can you name who were headlining MSG their third year in the biz? I can think of Rock and Brock Lesnar off the top of my head but Watts did it in 1965, decades before any one else of accomplished the same feat. “Bombastic Bill” is featured prominently in the new book, “The Midnight Express and Jim Cornette 25th Anniversary Scrapbook” which is available at www.jimcornette.com. Watts’ hand written memo regarding the art of and the importance of doing promo’s is a must see and,  like the rest of this classic publication,  is a must read.

I have worked diligently to keep up with your questions and comments on our Q&A section of this site. It is updated as we speak and I will continue to work on it sporadically throughout the weekend.

Keep in mind that we ship non liquid, non food items any where in the world. That means our autographed J.R.’s Cookbook and autographed, black, Trucker’s Caps, among other items. I hope that you will take a moment and check out our specials in our on line store.

With the wife out of town, I found myself watching WWE 24/7 On Demand until 3 a.m. this morning and that’s not a complaint. I love the 24/7 service and encourage all fans to check it out as it is a great value. I truly lead an exciting life do I not?

Apparently the WWE’s tour of Mexico is back on and I know that the advance ticket sales are MASSIVE. The international growth of the WWE brand in the future is going to be a major part of the company’s success and will further strengthen the brand which should enhance the stock price one has to assume.

I hope to see  a huge crowd of WWE fans Tuesday night in Dayton for a full night of WWE action including SD, ECW, and WWE Superstar content. I am arriving in Dayton on Monday in time to watch Raw even though I always DVR it. I have fun “entertainingly” hammering Raw on my blogs but don’t kid yourself,  I regularly watch the WWE’s #1 TV priority. I can always count on the King breaking out a spiffy,  new T shirt and his comedic banter directed to his broadcast partner, the “vintage” Michael Cole, has been fun to listen to lately especially when “Oh, My” Cole retaliates.

Remember that the Q&A section is updated and you’re cordially invited to visit it.

New JR Blog

Random thoughts from lovely Chicago O’Hare on my home to Oklahoma. ECW is becoming a really nice wrestling show that isn’t over thought or reaching for comedy. The small roster works hard and they seem motivated. Striker and Mathews are getting better each week in the ever growing, complex role of a wrestling broadcaster. I like Swagger’s improvement and Swagger wrestling men like Christian and Dreamer will help the former Sooner improve quicker. Nice to see the Bella Twins apparently “make up” as they are back together seemingly on Raw. WWE being on The View is smart, strategic marketing. Any time a business can affordably reach a sizeable, new audience it makes sense. Barbara Walters saying positive things about WWE isn’t a bad thing. The video that aired prior to MVP’s “View” cameo was excellent. WGN America’s Main Event Thursday night is Jericho vs Morrison. Sweeter than slow, smoked BBQ Ribs from JR’S in Norman. Typos are likely in todays blogs done on my blacberry while folks walk up to me, wearing my “come talk to me black hat” and asking me if I’m “J.R.” I strongly dislike Blue Tooth using geeks who talk LOUD in the boarding area. It will be a late nite for yours truly while doing small, audio fixes for SD. I still find it humorous when older, ex-wrestlers talk about forming a union. I say it will never happen in my lifetime. Wrestlers, in general are not the most trusting group and I’ve always said that if you get more than a dozen or so together that they couldn’t agree on where to go for lunch much less elect their union leaders. I used to discuss this point with Jesse Ventura who likes to argue for the pure hell of it at times. Been reading where Batista “may retire” in a year or so but I’d bet that won’t happen. Unless Batista has saved a boat load of cash I say he stays in WWE and makes more of those big pay days and 7 figure years. Big Dave likes the good life, who doesn’t, but the “good life” isn’t facilitated w/ coupons. Dave’s value to WWE, considering especially the overall lack of main event depth may never be greater. I know I throughly enjoy my paychecks even thought I feel I’m underpaid ( who doesn’t?)and hope to successfully negotiate a new contract w/ WWE when the time comes later in 2009. Hey, we ALL feel like we’re under paid, right? Read a review of the new Jeff Jarrett DVD. I’m sure it’s good but some folk’s recollection of history never ceases to amaze me. Jeff remembers things differently than I but it is his DVD produced by his company about him so he’s certainly not going to make himself look bad. Who would? Lots of water has gone under the bridge since those days and it certainly isn’t a major issue one way or the other and perhaps I’ll tell my side of the negotiations in question some day. I would suggest that all involved might have had dirty hands in that matter but I can assure you that I didn’t break my word in dealing with Double J. My old job back in the day was challenging and every decision wasn’t easy. Such is life. No regrets. Thanks for your business as our sales are increasing weekly. Our products are affordable and unique. Our new sauces in the lighter, plastic bottles are going great sellers. Our books and caps are selling super too. Plus we had the biggest week at our Norman location last week in months. Again, many thanks, Boomer Sooner! J.R.

Mickie James was removed from the opening video of RAW and replaced by Diva’s champion Maryse. This is a bit odd considering Mickie James is still on the RAW roster, post-WWE draft.

ROH

4.24.09 Show Results

Credit: Aaron Rund & PWInsider

Pre-Show:

The Soul Shooters vs. Josh Raymond (Abercrombie) and Christian Abel:
The Soul Shooters were announced as from Dayton so they did get a small home town pop. I haven’t seen Josh Raymond since he shaved his mustache and stopped calling himself Josh Abercrombie and if it wasn’t for the Tattoos I wouldn’t have even known he was the same person. This match was ruled a no-contest after about ten minutes when the Dark City Fight Club ran in with chairs and ran everyone off (think of it like how Sandman used to come out and cane everyone in a Bad Crew vs jobbers match in the Original ECW except no one got hit with any of the chairs)

GT Vega and “Dirty” Ernie Osris vs. Andy “Right Leg” Ridge and Tim Donst:
It was a surprise to me to see Tim Donst on this show considering he is working Chikara in Easton, PA and Philly this weekend on Sat and Sun. Donst got a small pop when he was first introduced. Andy Ridge is one of the most recent graduates of the ROH wrestling school and he was very impressive in this match. His kicks remind me a lot of Davey Richards. Vega and Osiris get the win. Post match Osiris was begging for tips from ringside fans.

Mikey Nichols vs. Sampson:
This match was your pre-show main event. Nichols and Sampson had a pre-show match at the Indianapolis ROH show that was very entertaining and this match was no difference. Sampson is one of the most Charismatic wrestlers I have seen in a very long time on an ROH pre-show. I can see a future spot for both Nichols and Sampson in the future (I don’t know how viable that is for Nichols as I believe he is Australian and may be in the States for only a short period of time), Overall it was a good match with Nichols getting the win.

Main Show:

Attendance was estmated at 600 people.

“American Dragon” Bryan Danielson vs. Eddie Edwards w/Shane Hagadorn:
Edwards is one half of the ROH world Champions the American Wolves (with Davey Richards). This match was one of the best openers I have ever seen in ROH live. These two had a great technical match with a lot of back and forth action. Dragon was able to hit most of his signature moves and even added a few knee strikes from the clinch which I hadn’t seen him do before. Danielson wins when he reverses a small package.

Claudio Castagnoli vs. “Skull Krusher” Rasche Brown vs. Silas Young vs. Matt Cross:
No Prince Nana with Claudio for this match, Rasche Brown was making his ROH debut. This was your standard ROH 4 corner survival. Brown and Claudio at one point were trying to one up each other on power moves delivered to young. A scary moment in this match when Cross attempted a spring board move off of Silas Young’s back (who was being held by Claudio Castagnoli in a fireman’s carry position) onto Rasche Brown on the floor. Cross caught his feet on the top rope and nearly took a header to the floor. I give a lot of credit to Brown who saw what was happening and dove to try and catch Cross. Some how Cross was able to right himself and didn’t land directly on his head. Claudio wins the match (I think with the Ricolla Bomb on Young but I am not sure).

Grizzly Redwood vs. Jimmy Rave w/Prince Nana and “Dirty” Ernie Osiris:
Ernie Osiris has taken the old Jade Chung role in the Embassy as Jimmy Raves footstool. Jimmy Rave was welcomed back to Dayton with a TP Shower from the fans. Rave won this glorified squash with Ghana-ria after Osiris distracted Redwood by offering him the piece of wood which Osiris had stolen a few weeks back. Post match, The Embassy destroyed Grizzly Redwood, Ernie Osiris stole both of Grizzly’s boots.

“A Double” Austin Aries & “Addicted to Love” Rhett Titus vs. The Phoenix Twins:
The Phoenix Twins were making there Dayton ROH debut. Austin Aries did a little bit of mic work before the show, ripping on both the Phoenix Twins and the Dayton fans. Aries told Titus before the match to “sit tight and observe, I may not even have to tag you into this match” This match was controlled for the most part by Aries and Titus. Phoenix Twins were impressive in the little offense they got in. Austin Aries won the match for his team following a Brainbuster.

Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana vs. “That Young Knockout Kid” Chris Hero w/Shane Hagadorn:
Cabana cut a promo before the match saying how great it is for him to be back in ROH. He mentioned that there were other offers on the table but he chose ROH because this is where he wanted to be. A pretty good back and forth match between these two with Colt getting a few comedy spots in and Hero working towards a knockout. Colt won the match via submission with “The Billy Goats Curse” (Inverted Boston Crab).

Intermission:

Jimmy Jacobs vs. Egotistico Fantastico:
Jimmy Jacobs was wearing an eye patch following last week’s match in Toronto where Delirious spiked him in the eye with Jacob’s own railroad spike. This was another good match, I had only seen Ego a few times and he hadn’t really impressed me before but he was very impressive in this match. At one point in time Jimmy Jacobs ended up in the Crowd and Ego ran 3/4s of the way around the ring and dove onto Jimmy Jacobs in the crowd. Jimmy at one point ripped the horn off of Ego’s mask and tried to use it as a weapon. Jimmy then kept the horn. Jimmy Jacobs wins via submission via the End Time.

Tyler Black vs. Davey Richards w/Shane Hagadorn:
This match was in my Opinion the match of the night. As expected both men worked their asses off. Tyler hit an insane springboard, front flip senton to the floor on Richards at one point. Honestly, my description of this match won’t do it justice. Davey Richards won with a roll-up and hand full of tights. Both men got a standing ovation from the crowd.

Kevin Steen and Jay Briscoe vs The Dark City Fight Club (Jon Davis and Corey Chavis):
Through no fault of anyone in the match, this match just wasn’t that good. It may have been the placement on the card, it may have been the lack of chemistry between Jay Briscoe and Kevin Steen. It could have been burnout from the crowd due to the Black vs. Richards match but for whatever reason these four just never clicked. Kevin Steen and Jay Briscoe won the match.

Roderick Strong vs. ROH World Champion Jerry Lynn:
Jerry Lynn received a smattering of boos when he first came out but for the most part received a positive reaction from the fans. The action in this match started off a little slow with both men feeling each other out. At one point Jerry Lynn was knocked to the floor, Strong acted like he was going to do a Pescado but Lynn moved out of the way. Roderick was able to catch himself and went for his running kick from the ring apron on to Lynn on the floor. Lynn was able to side step the move and sen Strong into the guard rail. Roderck hit the Guardrail face first and opened up a huge gash over Strong’s left eye. This cut was gushing and there was a small pool of Roderick’s blood on the protective mats on the floor. At this point many in the crowd wondered if Strong was able to continue. Strong toughed this one out and was able to continue. This re-energized the crowd. Lynn gets the win to Retain the ROH World Championship following two Cradle Piledrivers on Strong. By the time the match was over, the left side of Strong’s face was covered in blood. He resembled Two-Face from the Batman comics. Both Lynn and Strong received standing ovations. Jerry Lynn cut a small promo about how it is fans reactions like the one he received tonight that keeps him going after 20+ years in this business.

New JR Blog!

I’m holed up in my hotel room watching the NFL Draft & preparing for Sunday’s Backlash PPV. Here are some BBQ’ed Random Thoughts. Backlash feels like a “sleeper” PPV & will likely bring with it some surprises. The match that may plesantly surprise us is the Steamboat-Jericho bout. I’m approaching this (unofficially) as Ricky’s last 1 on 1 bout. I have loved his work for years and admire him as an honorable man & one of the best fan favorites ever. Chris Jericho is the perfect opponent for “The Dragon” which makes this match even more intriging to me as a fan. With Ric Flair in Jerry Lawler’s corner Saturday night in a New York indy show promoted by my friend Michael O’Brien, I’m taking King and giving the points in that one.I kept Jerry updated on the Browns’ draft Saturday. I’ve been traveling some recently w/ Matt Striker on the road which I enjoy. Matt is a real student of the biz who wants to learn his craft. Plus, he’s a good “wheel man.” We’ll make our way to NYC after Backlash. Since flipping our Moore BBQ joint to a Louie’s Sports Grill our BBQ biz in Norman has been amazing. I hope those of you that can will check us out in Norman if you’re ever in our area. We are going to add a bunch of new memorabilia there over the next few weeks. I was hoping to hook up w/ JBL while in NYC but John is out of town next week. He did give me some BBQ joints to try. John is busy building his businesses which could include doing business w/ JR’s Family BBQ down the road. We get lots of questions about wrestling schools. I suggest that one look at the successful students the schools of interest have produced before making a final decision. I know that men like Harley Race, Danny Davis, and Lance Storm are all credits to the biz and can help anyone w/ the ability & aptitude increase their chances of finding regular work. But always bear in mind that the road to fame & fortune is challenging and many more will fail than will succeed. With that said, never give up on your dreams. After this coming week, specifically Tuesday nite at MSG when MVP faces Dolph Ziggler for the U.S. Title, it looks as if WWE is going to be really serious about the brand seperation. I hope that assumption is accurate. I like giving more talents the opportunity to become stars. Another visitor to this site asked me to compare working w/ Todd Grisham and w/ Tony Schiavone. At the 1st Clash (Flair vs Sting) my role w/ Tony is much like my role is now w/ Todd, an analyst or whatever one wants to term it. I enjoy the role as I’m still calling matches w/ the best seat in the house. It obviously is an adjustment re: timing, etc but I’m still having fun which is key. The challenge to make Smackdown a stronger brand going forward is motivating to me at this stage of my game. For those fans who write from time to time that I am unhappy about not being on Raw, they simply show their ignorance & immaturity w/ their ramblings. I enjoy working w/ Todd and hope that I am able to help him refine his game as our team evolves. Don’t forget that we ship our JR’s BBQ caps, shirts, and our autographed “JR’s Cookbook’s” any where in the world. We will soon be moving from glass bottles to shipping friendly plastic bottles. Plus, our new HOT BBQ sauce is a main event product. I’m anxious to see what our announcer assignments will be for Backlash. Several bouts intrige me on what I perceive to be a largely “wrestling heavy” event. Backlash is sold out as is Monday’s Raw in Bridgeport and Smackdown Tuesday in MSG. I hope you will join us on PPV and keep up w/ what you don’t see on WWE.com. BTW my wife Jan & I saw comedian Ron White’s show in Norman Friday night and “Tater Salad” was awesome. If you get the chance to see Ron perform, don’t miss it. Boomer Sooner! J.R.

WWE

4.22.09 House Show Results

Thought I’d pass along the RAW House Show results from Liverpool, England on the 22/04/09.

William Regal (w/Layla) defeated Dolph Ziggler after a boot to the face
Regal played the face. Match didn’t last long, seems it was ended early due to Regal recieving a nasty looking cut after bashing heads with Dolph and bleeding quite badly. After the match Layla grabbed an English flag as Regal brought his niece into the ring and posed for a picture.

John Morrison beat Jamie Noble with the Moonlight Drive.
Not much to say, Morrison was over with the females in attendance. Not a bad match at all, with some nice reversals and Morrison doing well playing the arrogant (yet cowardly) heel.

Beth Phoenix and Santina Marella (w/Rosa Mendes) beat Kelly and Women’s champ Melina.
Mostly played for laughs, Beth arguing with Santina telling him she knew it was Santino. Stalled alot at the beginning with Santina and Kelly delaying locking up. Finish came when Beth hit Melina with the Glam Slam and Santina tagged “herself” in and got the win. Seems like they’re playing up the breakup of Rosa and Beth already as Rosa started celebrating with Santina, who gave a playful hug to Beth and a more intimate hug to Rosa.

Kane beat Kofi Kingston
Kofi was very over. Good match with lots of near falls and reversals of chokeslams. Kane eventually trapped Kofi after he missed Trouble in Paradise.

Primo and Carlito beat Charlie Haas and Mike Knox for the Tag Titles
Charlie (playing the heel) was VERY pumped up for the entire match (showed ALOT of charisma) and played to the crowd. Primo played the face in peril before Carlito won with the Backstabber to Charlie.

The Miz beat Goldust
With no offence meant, the worst match of the night. Not bad, just bland. Miz was also over with the women in attendance and won with the Reality Check. Goldust showed no character at all. Disappointing.

CM Punk beat Y2J
Match of the night in my opinion. Both men brought their A-Game with a back and forth contest. At one point CM Punk hit the GTS only for Y2J to roll out the ring and by the time he got him back in, he had time to kick out. Y2J was also able to hit the Codebreaker but took too long to cover (like on Monday’s RAW). Finish came when Jericho brought a chair into the ring and RICKY STEAMBOAT ran down and took it off him, but had the chair booted in his face in retaliation. CM Punk used this distraction to hit the GTS for the win. After the match CM Punk told the audience not to cheer for him but for Ricky, hyping his match at Backlash.

Cena and Rey beat Big Show and Edge
Cena and Rey were, unsuprisingly, very over. Cena had the majority of the crowd’s support and no doubt got the biggest reaction of the night. Lots of comedy moments in the beginning with Big Show and Edge trading chops to tag themselves in. Show/Edge got the advantage in a good, lengthy match which ended when Cena turned things round after Edge accidently speared Big Show, leading to Rey getting tagged in and hitting the 619 on Edge followed by a splash from the top rope as Cena hit Show with an Attitude Adjuster. After the match Show got hit with a 619 and another Attitude Adjuster from Cena. The two Attitude Adjusters shook the ring, literally.

Overall a very good show with everyone (except for Goldust) giving it their all. Kofi and Charlie Haas deserve credit for giving 110% to both of their matches, despite losing and it was also nice to see pretty much everyone having fun with the show. Little comedy moments with Regal, Beth, “Santina”, Charlie, Miz, Big Show and Edge added so much to their matches while Kelly, Melina, Y2J and Punk also seemed to be having a ball performing.

WWE’s Reaction To Lashley-TNA Signing

- WWE’s reaction to Bobby Lashley signing with TNA was pretty much a non-issue. Most within the company expected Lashley to eventually sign with TNA, and officials feel that it won’t help TNA or hurt WWE in any way.

Angle says he’s going to take over Mick Foley’s office and the show tonight.

* Team 3D Tournament: X-Division champion Suicide & The Amazing Red defeated The Motor City Machineguns.

ROH

April 22 Newswire

- April 22nd Newswire: Jimmy Jacobs was seen wearing an eye patch following the intense street fight last Saturday in Markham, Ontario. Delirious was able to secure victory by locking in the Cobra Stretch while digging Jacobs’ own railroad spike into his eye. After losing the match, Jacobs was clutching his eye and immediately left the building, seeking treatment at a nearby hospital. ROH officials have been informed that Jacobs has apparently suffered a severe corneal abrasion, but is not expected to miss this weekends events in Dayton and Chicago Ridge.

- The Fight Network was on hand in suburban Toronto and reporter John Pollock put together a piece on Ring of Honor’s return to Canada. You can hear comments on the future of ROH by ROH President Cary Silkin as well as Bryan Danielson. Ring of Honor thanks Mr. Pollock and the Fight Network for their support! Please click the link to see the video. http://www.you-tube.com/watch?v=mp019wLgcaw

- If you saw yesterday’s newest installment of the Ring of Honor Video Wire (http://www.you-tube.com/watch?v=uzKO8FV7hJo&fmt=18), you saw that Joey Ryan once again made a proclamation about bringing “sleazy” to Ring of Honor. We can now confirm that Joey Ryan will be on hand and in action on May 8th in Boston and May 9th in Edison. We’ll have his match announcements soon right here in the Newswire.

- Kenny King and Rhett Titus have been as vocal as anyone in ROH, and even more so after aligning themselves with “A-Double”. Now they may have bitten off more than they can chew. ON May 8th in Boston, King and Titus have signed to face the Dark City Fight Club in tag team action. Can the brash and cocky King and Titus overcome the in-your-face intensity that the DCFC have brought to Ring of Honor? We’ll find out in Boston!

- Also signed for Boston is the unexpected battle of “drinking buddies”. The Necro Butcher and Jay Briscoe are known to toss back a few cold ones after ROH events, and now it seems they’ll toss fists. This isn’t a grudge match by any means according to Briscoe. “It’s good to test yourself against all styles in wrestling. That’s why I signed to fight Roddy Strong – he is one of the best. Now I signed to fight Necro. Not because I have any problems with him, just because I know he’ll keep my brawling sharp. Plus, I know he’ll buy the first round after it’s all done.” Briscoe has split decisions with Roderick String on recent cards, beating him in Markham. Strong has asked for a third match. Could Briscoe be using this match with Necro to sharpen a new strategy for his next battle with Roddy?

- Due to scheduling issues and circumstances beyond our control, Ring of Honor regrets to inform the fans that the following live events have been canceled. Danbury, CT on July 17th, Montreal, Quebec on July 24th, and Elizabeth, PA on September 25th. If you have purchased tickets for any of these events please email ROHTickets@aol.com for refund information. Look for new live events to be announced in place Danbury & Pittsburgh in the coming weeks. We apologize for the unexpected inconvenience this may have caused. Thank you for your business and continued support.

- Ring of Honor’s return to Toronto just got even bigger. Just added is a second live event on Friday, July 24th at the Ted Reeve Arena, 175 Main Street, Toronto, Ontario M4E 2W2. Tickets for the July 24th show will go on sale this coming Monday at noon EST at www.rohwrestling.com . Tickets are already on sale for the July 25th date featuring “Nature Boy” Ric Flair. Stay tuned to ROHwrestling.com for additional details on this big weekend.

- Eddie Kingston is coming to Edison, NJ on May 9th to show the ROH fans that he belongs. He was successful in defeating Sami Callihan in ROH on HDNet, and that victory has earned him praise form the ROH faithful. But when he gets to Edison, he’ll be taking on a man making a stop in his old ROH stomping grounds, a former ROH World Tag Team Champion, “The Havana Pitbull” Ricky Reyes. Will Reyes show Kingston why he has held ROH gold and earn a “W” before he goes back to Puerto Rico, or will Kingston show everyone why “the last of a dying breed” is on the rise?

- Kevin Steen is waiting like all of us to find out if El Generico will be healthy enough to chase down the American Wolves and the ROH World Tag Team Titles. But the uncertainty isn’t going to stop Steen from doing what he does best – wrestling. To that end, Steen has signed to face Sonjay Dutt on May 9th in Edison! “I respect Sonjay,” said Steen. “But I’m angry. Mad at the Wolves, mad at circumstance, just mad. And I pity Dutt if Generico is out for a while. All of my frustration might end up being taken out on him.”

- The first ROH on HDNet commercial featuring the new Ambassador of ROH, the legendary 16-time World Champion “Nature Boy” Ric Flair is out and ready for viewing (http://www.you-tube.com/watch?v=u1RhW_JV5kA&fmt=18). The episodes featuring Flair begin airing on HDNet on May 2nd. For more info on Ring of Honor on HDNet, please visit http://www.hd.net/ringofhonorhtml or http://www.twitter.com/rohonhdnet .

Major PPV Spoiler

Due to the fact that after the WWE draft both the WWE champion (Triple H) and the World champion (John Cena) ended up on the same brand (RAW), there is likely to be a title change at the upcoming Backlash pay-per view on April 26th.

While Triple H has his title up for grabs in a trios match with all RAW talent, Cena is defending his World title against SmackDown! star Edge. This pretty much guarantees Edge winning the World title to keep the top-two singles titles on opposing brands.

Of course, WWE has been known to switch booking ideas simply to fool people watching, but even still this seems to be a lock.

Mick Foley Comments On WWE To TNA Decision

“It’s been great for me. I have no doubt that it was the right move to make. I think anyone who watches iMPACT can see that I’m having more fun. That I enjoy really being part of the mix. I’m working on a book right now detailing my adventures leading up to this one match. It’s similar, in that respect, to the book that I wrote in 2006, about leading up to a big match in the WWE. The biggest difference is that it’s so much easier for me to try to get my vision across to viewers. Part of what made the last book a good read I think was that it detailed the constant battles I would have with the WWE creative department and with Vince McMahon. Those battles don’t really exist in TNA for me.”

4.18.09 House Show Results

Credit: David Musgrave & WrestlingObserver.com

Pre-show:

A) Player Uno and Alex Payne defeated Michael Elgin and Ash. Fun opener with the crowd being into everyone. Nice to see Ash and Elgin on the show.

B) Josh Raymond and Christian Able defeated Grizzly Redwood and Bobby Dempsey. Fun match, Raymond and Able seem like they could do well on the regular card.

Main Show:
1) Brent Albright defeated Jimmy Rave by submission with the crowbar. Jimmy Rave and Prince Nana seem to have fit right back in. The toilet papering went over well. Rave did enough heel stalling to get heat but limited it enough to not be Larry Zbysko. Lots of chopping with good selling by Rave. Albright looked good in victory, he seems to have trimmed and was in the best shape and worked the best I’ve seen him in a while.

2) Chris Hero d. Necro Butcher by DQ after Necro used a chair. This was a fun brawl that went out of the ring a lot and also involved wrestling. The DQ finish didn’t feel ill-timed. There was a great taunt by Hero when Necro was down and Hero said “Where’s your Oscar?”

3) Colt Cabana d. Claudio Castagnolli via pinfall. Cabana has fit right back into his comedic role and the crowd was right with him. It sucks that WWE wasted two years of hislife (sic) but he feels refreshed. Claudio was probably in the best heel mode Ive seen him, which happens when you shave your head and wear a scarf. Fun match.

4) Austin Aries, Rhett Titus and Kenny King d. Kevin Steen Kenny Omega and Player Dos. Aries, Titus and King were great as a trio and come off like a top act. This match was filled with lots of great Huh? along with Dos being worked over. It was cool for Generico to be there and kudos to ROH for announcing this upfront. Great match, second best of the night.Great chant of “Heppa-Titus” (sic) at Rhett.

Intermission.

5) The start of the second half was being announced when Delirious and Jimmy Jacobs appeared in the crowd already brawling. They were close to me so that was fun. They went into the stands, then to ringside, setting up a table for later. They got ine ring and brawled back and forth. Eventually Delirious tried to suplex Jacobs out of the ring onto the table but Jacobs fought back, hit the ropes and speared Delirious through the table. Eventually Daizee Haze got involved. During the finish, Delirious blew black mist, covering Jacobs’ face. Daizee hit Jacobs with his own spike and then Delirious put him in the Cobra Stretch with the spike digging in Jacobs black-covered face until Jimmy tapped. This is the best I’ve seen from either guy in a while.

6)Jay Briscoe d. Roderick Strong in a strong wrestling match. Lots of chops, lot of nearfalls (sic) and an ending sequence of rollups (sic) that ended with Jay winning. A really good match that was exactly what it needed to be.

7) Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards vsm (sic) Bryan Danielson and Tyler Black went to a 45-minute time limit draw in the best match I have seen live since Danielson v. Black from Detroit last July (ppv match). The 45 minutes flew by and caught the crowd by surprise with the one-minute warning while both Danielson and Black did elbow strikes to the Wolves followed by duelling (sic) Cattle Mutilation when the warning was given. Crowd was heated that it ended but good heat and a remacth (sic) should be good. Lots of innovative spots including Black and Danielson tagging in and out while taking turns bodyslamming (sic) Edwards. Simple, but it got over. The Wolves seem like a great classic tag with lots of great double-teams, many of which involve kicks and leg lariats. Crazy spot with all the guys in the crowd after dives by Richards and Danielson, then both Black and Richards getting back in at 19.5 when it seemed they would’t (sic). Danielson also had a crazy bruise on his left thigh the size of a melon and he sold it the rest of the match. I would have though he had broken it except he was able to work on it (stand, run, etc) and his opponents worked it the rest of the match with texas (sic) cloverleaf’s and dragonscrews (sic).
