As I See It - June 25, 2009

Hello and welcome to the return of the highly acclaimed As I See It series. It may only be highly acclaimed in my own mind but that’s neither here nor there because this marks a significant part of Pinfall Recall history. As we edge ever closer to the fourth anniversary of the creation of Pinfall Recall, I am pleased to return to your computer screens with my thoughts on the world of professional wrestling and, what’s more, I’m pleased to once again improve your lives by giving you something to read that can only be described as simply ‘Genius’.
Since Pinfall Recall began this journey about 4 years ago, we’ve all had to endure some pretty horrendous wrestling from WWE and TNA alike. However, I think there are definite signs that we are finally being rewarded for the years of disillusion as the WWE product at this point is pretty damn good. Well, to be honest, Raw is still quite terrible on most occasions but I really can’t speak highly enough of the other 3 shows that WWE puts out on a weekly basis. Smackdown really demonstrates some of the best wrestling programming that I personally have seen in quite a long time to be honest with you. ECW consistently puts out a solid hour of TV each week and the last episode of Superstars that I caught had John Morrison and Chris Jericho tear down the house.
Now whilst we’re finally being repaid for our years of loyalty to the product, the powers that be may not be so pleased as the sheer awesomeness of the aforementioned television shows is not portrayed in the slightest when it comes to the ever important ratings. And it is that fact alone that leaves me with a bit of trepidation going forward as I’m concerned that these really good shows will not be given the time to blossom before some change is inevitable. But for the time being, wrestling fans all over the World should join me in taking pleasure in the extremely high quality of the perceived “B” shows.
Now whether it’s down to the intriguing direction CM Punk is going or the great matches put on each and every week by the mid and upper card respectively, Friday Night Smackdown has been a joy to watch every week for quite some time now. I think it’s no real coincidence that the shows that have blossomed have been the shows that were left to their own creative devices without any array of McMahon influence. Touching back to the point I made a little earlier and with the under-performance in the ratings department, I am a little concerned that big ol’ Vinnie will feel the need to get involved and give it that extra special touch we all know and love…and by ‘love’ I of course mean ‘absolutely despise’. But that’s not something I want to delve too deeply into at this stage as, for the moment at least, we’re being treated to some damn good television.
Whilst on the subject of ratings, I wanted to take full advantage and take a cheap shot at TNA. That being the fact that WWE Superstars airs on the same night (albeit an hour earlier) to a fraction of the potential viewers that TNA iMPACT! reaches yet is only a 0.1 or 0.2 down in the ratings on a weekly basis. I don’t hate TNA by all means but facts like that should be made fun of, simple as that.
So what I’m getting at with this is that it is your duty as a fan of great wrestling that you watch Smackdown each and every week to show the powers that be within WWE that it is this type of show that we wrestling fans like to see. And I’m 100% confident that if you do watch the so called “B shows” (Smackdown in particular) then you will agree with me implicitly. In the past I’ve been first in line to take shots at WWE and I think that it should be noted and appreciated when they outperform the relatively low expectations that I have for their creative team.
I touched earlier on the direction that CM Punk is taking, which is another big factor that is keeping me drawn to Friday Night Smackdown each and every week. They’ve not turned him full on heel, they’ve kind of just let him linger and I really think that Punk is one of the few guys that can pull this off.
I really do think that the direction they are taking CM Punk has been quite genius in execution thus far. I’ve heard in some pockets of the IWC that Punk should attack Hardy for having a past riddled with drug problems whilst he has reached the top by completely clean and “straight edge”. In my opinion, this would be the wrong way to proceed. Don’t get me wrong, it would definitely add an intriguing aspect to the storyline but in it’s current form I think it would be detrimental to the progress Hardy has made to step up to the main event level. To focus solely on the somewhat shady and questionable past of our supposed hero would be a quite absurd thing to do in my opinion. Let alone the impact that it could have with regards the views of the parents of the WWE Universe by highlighting the drug addicted past of their youngster’s idol. What it boils down to is the fact that they haven’t put all their eggs in one basket by turning Punk heel straight away, they’re letting the crowd make their own minds up on him and to me that’s the best way to handle him. My only hope now is that they can give him some good storylines going forward to keep him at the top of the card and a fresh heel run may eventually the way to go with him.
Changing tact a little bit, has there ever been a bigger waste of our time than the Donald Trump storyline that lasted 7 whole days? I certainly can’t think of any in recent memory. I cannot see how that enhanced the product in any way shape or form. The whole thing was stupid and it actually resulted in them losing money as some retarded shareholders actually believed this shit to be real. I must admit, I’m not sure how I’d progress with Raw in terms of the management/authority figure but surely there was a more logical way than what we saw with this Trump fiasco. If, as rumoured, Ric Flair is to be the new general manager of Raw then I do not see the problem in having the Trump angle run a little longer but have Flair running the show for him and Donny would be seen rarely, if ever. I would much rather have seen something like that happen than what we were indeed treated to.
As it pertains to this Sunday’s ridiculously named Pay-Per-View “The Bash”, I think it has to the potential to be a fairly interesting show. Either way, it’s free to air in the UK on Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports HD1 so I’m not fussed one way or the other. There’s definitely a few matches in there that I’m down for…and there’s the added bonus that as it stands three days away from the PPV, there is no Big Show to be seen on the card! I’m interested in seeing The Miz against Cena, purely as a result of the long (by today’s standards) drawn out development of this angle. The Tag Title match with Legacy against Carlito and Primo should be another exceptional contest in my eyes, especially since the Colons are easily one of the best teams I’ve seen in quite a while. So with a fairly stacked mid-card and a couple good main event matches on the card hopefully this year’s Bash will not be the joke that it has been in pretty much every year that the WWE has promoted the show.
So that’s that ladies and gents, the returning column from yours truly is in the books. I hope you’ve enjoyed what you’ve read and by all means get in touch either by commenting on the blog or posting on the forums or even sending me an e-mail at AK@pinfallrecall.com.
Thank you for reading and may the next week of wrestling viewing be a happy one!

Comeback? Sure!
I’m back, and better than ever. Got a knack, for making things better.
Hello and welcome to somewhat of a rebirth here in the Pinfall Recall World. Yes friends that’s right, I, Andrew Kearney, am back and better than ever. I feel the timing for this couldn’t be better and I can say that I’m extremely excited to start this new chapter in the book of Pinfall Recall. It’s been at least two years since I was a fully active member of this great team but I can only see that as being to our advantage as we look to progress and carry on the excellent work demonstrated by the existing team members. We’re all a couple years older and a couple years wiser since I was last around…quite whether the wrestling industry as a whole has progressed in that time I’m not too sure but I’ll sure as hell enjoy talking about it here with you all. I also just wanted to send out a public thank you to RDB, Milo, Ed, and of course CK and JG for making this return possible. Now I want you all to kick back and just relax as you jump back into the trip known as Andrew Kearney…or AK…or Kearney…well you get the idea.
The purpose of this little piece is to give you all an insight into my views of the current state of professional wrestling. Now I’ll be honest with you all, my finger had certainly slipped way off the pulse over the last two years of absenteeism but since about ‘Mania this year, I’ve been getting back into the swing of things. As hard as I try though it is definitely still a case of as and when I can with regards to the actual watching of the shows. I mean I do try and catch Raw every week, the same with SmackDown also and for some reason, unknown to me or anyone else, I rarely miss an episode of TNA iMPACT. So I definitely do try to keep on top of things but it certainly does take a pretty dedicated loser to watch every single piece of weekly televised wrestling.
I don’t watch TNA week in week out because I think it’s such an awesome way to spend two hours each week. I think it’s definitely more a case of sheer bewilderment and curiosity that keeps on drawing me back in. I just wanted to make that point perfectly clear before we delve any deeper. Quite simply, the list of things wrong with TNA is longer than my arm and longer than I’m willing to discuss at this moment but the biggest problem that I have with the product is that far too much of it just doesn’t make sense and the reasons to actually care about what’s going on are so few and far between.
In terms of WWE I think there are signs of a decent product in there from time to time, particularly on the SmackDown brand in my opinion. But even then you can spend a couple hours watching Raw or SmackDown and still wonder what happened come the end of the show. I also may have made a fairly large mistake recently as over the last few weeks I’ve been watching my entire anthology of every WWE Raw from 1999 and that really has fuelled even greater cynicism and dismay at the current product. But as I said, from time to time I’m pleasantly surprised and satisfied after watching a WWE show, a lot more than was the case a couple of years ago at least.
But at the end of the day, there’s plenty for me to talk about and I sincerely hope you all enjoy jumping on the back of Pinfall Recall’s own British Invasion.
As has been stated on the forum and the most recent podcast, I am really aiming to add a lot of content to the blog in the form of columns, articles and other fun filled features. So please stay tuned to that the website and the forums for all of my upcoming Pinfall Recalling…and you may also want to keep an ear out for a certain British voice on an upcoming podcast…just sayin’.
I am most definitely back ladies and gentleman and you will unquestionably be seeing a lot more of all over the Pinfall Recall Universe!
Engine Trouble on the Road to WrestleMania
It happens every year. The screen fades to black over the winner of the Royal Rumble pointing up to the WrestleMania logo and we kick off the high-energy, fast-paced, intrigue-laden push toward the biggest stage of them all. Its one of the most exciting times for wrestling fans, to watch as the stories for the last couple months really kick into overdrive and the weekly shows are just more exciting. 3 months of shows where you can’t wait to see the next one, and each week is more exciting than the next, all leading to 4 hours of glorious pay-off. So why the hell am I so bored this year?
Typically, the Road to WrestleMania is paved with some of the best TV of the year. No matter how bad WWE TV has gotten, things have picked up around this time of year, and the shows have sucked me back in. But i just don’t feel that pull this year, and I’m left wondering why. With 10 weeks between the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania, WWE has had more than enough time to build up compelling content leading up to the big show. It was certainly off to a great start, what with the kickoff of the Randy Orton vs the McMahon’s, and Jericho’s attacks on the Legends. We had Edge sneaking in a World Heavyweight title win, and HHH starting a very angry feud with Orton. Things were looking good for some intriguing TV and some solid matches. But then something seemed to fall apart.
Orton and HHH are dry and predictable. Orton has been cutting some of the best promos of his career, and HHH is as angry as he has ever been, yet the actual story progression for the last few weeks has been bland and unexciting. Jericho finds himself in a match against 3 legends, yet none of those 3 legends are what we were hoping for after the potential for a match with Mickie Rourke or possibly Stone Cold. The Money in the Bank match is shaping up to be the worst one we’ve seen, and to be honest, the idea already seems old and used up to me, simply because of how they are booking it. Edge, Big Show, and Cena are stuck having yet another Vickie Guererro love angle hanging over their match, which considering Vickie’s physical appearance and grating personality, makes even less sense to me than Mark Henry and Mae Young giving birth to a hand. None of the main event’s and high-level bouts aside from The Undertaker vs HBK have grabbed my interest at all, and to make matters worse, we’ve been stuck with Vickie on not one show each week, but two. All of these factors are contributing to the most boring Wrestlemania buildup we’ve seen in years.
So I’m left to ask what the hell is going on. This just isn’t like WWE. What has consistently been fun for years, has felt like a drop in quality over the past several months of improved booking. It’s true, there are still 2 weeks to turn things around, and I’m certain the creative team has flown into overdrive with the big show so close and ratings dropping. If anyone knows how to pull out all of the stops in a pinch, its Vince McMahon. But if change is coming, it had better start tonight, because the grandest stage of them all is right around the corner, and the Road to WrestleMania just hasn’t been much fun to drive this year.

Totally True or Fuckin False #5
This week I had the opportunity to write up the TToFF statements. To make them show their worth, I added an additional statement (there are six in total) to this week’s edition! Who would be up to the challenge? Not many. Listed below are the participants.
CK: Pinfall Recall co-founder, future father.
JG: Pinfall Recall co-founder, husband of forum member BzDaGooN.
Milo: Pinfall Recall team member, person with a computer.
Let’s get this show on the road!
1. The WWE will give Edge a lengthy run with the WWE Championship.
JG: Fuckin False. I don’t know what we’re using to define lengthy here, but I definitely could see Jeff Hardy taking the title from him at Wrestlemania in a TLC match. So if you count a few months as lengthy, then I guess my answer is Totally True, but since in this I define lengthy as 8-12 months, I’m gonna stick with what I say. Edge is over as a heel whether he has the title or not. While I definitely love seeing the belt on him, I think he’ll be fine without it.
CK: Totally True. Many of Edge’s previous title runs, while not extremely lengthy, have at least lasted for months at a time, and more importantly, been very successful for the Ratings. WWE recognizes Edge’s obviously popularity with the crowd, and it shows that they know how much heat he draws by just throwing the belt back at him so fast upon his return. Edge still has a great amount of time left in his wrestling career, and do think that he will get a long run… some day. I just don’t think it will be right now. The SD crowd is clamoring for Jeff Hardy to finally get his hands on the belt, and the WWE has to recognize that. For this particular run, I believe we’ll see a couple months worth of feuding between Edge and Jeff (once we get HHH out of the way), with some amazing matches, both regular and gimmick, all leading up to Jeff’s big win.
Milo: Fuckin false. Right now, the WWE is showing a clear willingness to move around the title belts on a frequent basis. I can’t see Edge holding onto the belt for much longer than a month, especially with the surging Jeff Hardy right behind him. I think its great that Triple H is getting a break from the belt, but I can’t say that I’d like to see Edge as World Champ for a long time.
2. It would be in TNA’s best interest at this point in time to have AJ Styles win the TNA World Championship.
JG: Totally True. It’s time to let AJ stop having Jeff Hardy Syndrome. The thing is that AJ has worked very hard and very well for TNA and it would be good to go ahead and give him the belt to take it away from all of those former WWE fellas. TNA “homegrown” talent needs to be given more of a spotlight and unfortunately until recently that wasn’t happening. Hopefully now we can see it happen.
CK: Totally True. If there is a more perfect TNA home-grown superstar to hold the belt during this Main Event Mafia vs the young guys situation, I want you to point him out to me. Sure, you could say Samoa Joe, but his heavier cred was wasted a bit over the last year. Plus, AJ has been with TNA since day one. It would really show off the true TNA spirit to have him carrying the belt.
Milo: Totally True. AJ’s clearly talented enough to get a good match out of Sting, and putting the belt on him could give TNA a bit of an energy boost. Right now, with Christian Cage ready to jump ship over to the WWE, TNA has most frequently been mentioned with its rival competitor in the news. By giving Styles, a TNA original, the title TNA could begin a long process of seperating themselves from the WWE, and standing out as an individual company. I can’t really see a negative in giving Styles another shot at TNA champion.
3. Eric Bischoff will never again be a prominent name in professional wrestling.
JG: Fuckin False. I think Bischoff has a lot of great ideas and the knack for the business. He would need some people to give him some assistance in a lot of departments, but I think he’s saving up for something big. He’s recently come back into the light on CCW (which I love btw), and I think he definitely has the ability to bring back something big. Will it be big enough to compete with “The E”? I doubt it, but it might be good for TNA to get some competition on that level.
CK: Fuckin False. Strangely enough, CCW has done really well for itself, and Bischoff has even said that if the right type of promotion idea presented itself, he would do it. His aim is to hit something totally original from the WWE, and that means he’s at least still thinking about it. Plus, I would be willing to bet that if the right opportunity/money presented itself from Vince, Bisch would still go to WWE again. I personally would just love to see him in charge of his own fed again, as I think it would do good things for competition.
Milo: Fuckin’ False. The only scenario in which I can see Bischoff being once more a prominent name in wrestling is if he gets a job in TNA. Eric’s currently busy with CCW, so I can’t see that happening anytime soon. Eric had a really good run on Raw as the heel GM, but I think the time for him to hang it up as a wrestling figure may be here.
4. It was a terrible decision to have the Undertaker defeat the Big Show at Survivor Series.
JG: Fuckin False. I like Big Show as a guy, but not as a wrestler. He’s a decent character, but where can they go if they give him big wins? Nowhere. It’s not like he can be a true Champion on the show because he has to fall eventually and THEN what?! We have nothing to really DO with Big Show at this point, so I think it makes sense to have the Undertaker win.
CK: Fuckin False. If only to make this feud come to an end. Neither of these guys really had anything to lose long-term over this whole thing, and it was really just an excuse for them to have something to do. But I think Undertaker coming out on top was the way to go here.
Milo: Totally True. Now the Big Show just looks like a joke having lost in ANOTHER important match. The Undertaker could have lost and used that as an excuse to take time off before a Wrestlemania match, he had considerably less to lose. But the Big Show instead took the fall, and now he couldn’t look to be less of a threat on Smackdown. I was really dissapointed with this match’s outcome.
5. Samoa Joe’s dominant run in TNA is nearing an end.
JG: Totally True. Samoa Joe is just getting too fat. The thing is he can still do a million more moves than I could ever hope to do, but he’s just getting too big and it really seems like he’s half-assing his way around the company now. He doesn’t seem to have near as much heart as he used to have, and he also seems to have a bad attitude. Who knows if he’ll even stick around TNA. I could see him jumping to WWE to have a run against someone like Umaga for a little while before eventually being buried and released and going back to some smaller organization that still takes has-beens… look for Samoa Joe being booked with Jake the Snake in 2012.
CK: Totally True. But I don’t feel that I would call his run that dominant to begin with, at least not for the last couple years. He certainly got off to a very dominant start, but I have a hard time calling his title run that dominant. I feel that he was booked weakly heading into it as well. It took far too long to get him there, and it made him look like more of a chump in the process. The dominance of his run ran out long ago. I do believe that he will be a part of TNA for a long time to come however, and he will be spending that time at the top of the food chain. Its just a matter of whether he will be dominant or not, and for the time being, I don’t think he will.
Milo: Fuckin’ False. Samoa Joe is 29 years old; not really close to an age when wrestlers become washed up. Yes, he’s fat, but he’s still extraordinarily gifted, and can hang ring-wise with members of the X-Division. TNA hasn’t given him an important role in the company for some time now, but if they give him a run as X-Division champion, I think he can show the wrestling community that he still has quite a bit left in the tank. Perhaps taking some time away from TNA and doing some ROH work can revitalize his career.
6. Chris Jericho will never again be a World Champion in WWE.
JG: Fuckin False. I don’t even think this deserves any other response… just Fuckin False.
CK: Fuckin False. There is no way that he will be around long term and not be a champion. The man is gold on the mic and in the ring, both from his athletic ability and the psychology that goes into his matches. The crowd loves to hate him when he’s heel and goes crazy for him as a face. His skill as a veteran provides a great learning stage for younger faces as well, and having him as the champ will let less experienced main-eventers face off against a great ring general in their title matches. It may be a while before it happens again due to Cena and Orton being back in the game full time, but Jericho will have the belt back before the end of 2009.
Milo: Fuckin False. Jericho, as long as he stays healthy and is comitted to the WWE, will likely be champion a few more times. Jericho and John Cena are clearly good ring competitors; I can see a feud between the two (and possibly with Randy Orton as a third competitor) putting on some excellent matches at future pay-per-views. Monday Night Raw’s finish left many possibilities for this angle down the road.
That about wraps it up for this week. Now its your turn. Feel free to visit our forums to vote for who you agree with most, or to write up your own answers to the questions!
Totally True or Fuckin False #4
This week I, the benevolent and magnificent RDB, am posting the statements. What will this hard hitting Pre-Journalism major throw at the team members this week? Well to find out you are going to have to scroll down there minions! Now quit dawdling and read on in the latest edition of Pinfall Recall’s Totally True or Fuckin False!
Your team members are:
CK- Pinfall Recall Co-Founder
JG- Pinfall Recall Co-Founder and CK’s better half
Milo- The newest Pinfall Recall team member and newsman
DC- Pinfall Recall’s resident charismatic Canadian
RDB- Pinfall Recall team member and news fetcher
On to the statements!
Statement 1: The whole Roddy Piper marijuana is being blown out of proportion and will do no harm to his legacy.
CK: Totally True. I really don’t think that smoking a little marijuana is going to hurt the guy’s legacy. Piper is a big part of wrestling’s past, and people will always remember him more for Piper’s Pit than they will for Piper’s Pipe.
JG: Totally True. Pot is not a gateway drug contrary to popular belief, and to be honest people don’t care about pot anymore. It used to be a big deal if someone was a pot smoker. Now it’s more of a big deal if a celebrity ISN’T a pot smoker. It’s not a big deal to me, and I don’t think the WWE or its fans are going to spend too much time discrediting everything Roddy has done just because he lights a joint once in a while.
DC: Fuckin False. I have no respect for piper even though he beat Cancer, how magical. But in all honesty, to have such a dirty habit such as smoking pot and using a diesease as a scape goat is bullshit, I hope that WWE boycotts Piper as he is no example of how a wrestler or fan should act. RIP Rodney the Piper.
Milo: Totally True. Roddy Piper was known for being unruly during his time with the WWE anyway, I don’t see how him smoking pot would tarnish or even put a smidge on his legacy. As long as he’s not hurting anyone in the process, let him do what he likes, I say. I doubt a little bit of pot smoking will do damage to the image of a 3 time NWA heavyweight champion.
RDB: Totally True. If Hulk Hogan can molest his daughter’s ass on camera, why can’t Roddy Piper smoke weed? The man is Canadian too so he doesn’t know any better, it is legal up there. And he lives in Portland Fucking Oregon! There’s burned out potheads everywhere you turn down here, and you could go downtown and get a dimebag easier then you can get ice cream. Give the man a break, he’s old and a legend, he’s earned his peace…pipe.
Statement 2: Kozlov has become an afterthought in the WWE Title picture with the resurgence of Jeff Hardy.
CK: Fuckin False. But this is only because I don’t honestly feel that he was a true thought in the picture anyway. Combine that with Edge’s re-insertion into the picture from Survivor Series, and I think we’ll be seeing Kozlov getting involved in some matches that will allow his in-ring skills to mature without being in such an incredibly important position on the show.
JG: Totally True. Kozlov was pushing up to the top with a force that I hated to see. The good news is that now that Jeff Hardy is showing more emotion, no one cares about Kozlov. *SPOILER ALERT* Now that Edge is back, no one likely even remembers Kozlov’s name. The only problem I can really see now is… where the fuck does Kozlov go now? They pushed him to the top, then brought up Jeff Hardy VERY quickly and then let Edge come back. What happens to Kozlov? RELEASE!
DC: Fuckin False. The Moscow Mauler is not being over looked, if anything, WWE is building up Jeff for Kozlov to cut down, I think Kozlov looks impressive as ever.
Milo: Fuckin False. Vladimir Kozlov may be quite green in the ring, and have dreadful mic skills, but the potential for him to be an absolute beast and be a world champ is still there. I think its just important for him to keep getting in-ring work, and develop his skill-set before he wins a major title. The idea of Kozlov becoming an afterthought, though, is a bit silly at this point in his career. He could be one of the next great heels in WWE history.
RDB: Totally True. Because of what happened last night. I remember about a month ago I was at No Mercy and believed that Kozlov was going to be the guy taking the gold off of Triple H. He was badass and a force to be reckoned with. Then Jeff Hardy caught fire and I noticed that no one was talking about Kozlov anymore. Suddenly Jeff was the favorite (until Edge returned) and now Kozlov has nowhere to go. Look for the inevitable big man vs. big man feud for Kozlov to enter and I bet he goes against Undertaker at WrestleMania.
Statement 3: WWE’s stock and Raw’s lower than normal ratings are something to be concerned about.
CK: Totally True. But no more than these kind of drops have been alarming in the past. We’ve seen big drops before, and they seem to turn around. Fact of the matter is, the economic condition of the USA is scaring many people, and there are a while lot of TV viewers spending more time worrying about their financial positions instead of watching TV. Most shows are dropping in the ratings now, aside from a select few, so while it is certainly a cause for concern, I don’t think it’s cause for major alarm. None of the shows are going anywhere, as those kind of ratings are still solid for cable TV.
JG: Fuckin False. I think this is the tide of the economy. I honestly don’t see WWE having ANYTHING to worry about for quite some time. In a worst case, McMahon will dip into some of his billions in order to save his baby because it will DEFINITELY come back up. The truth is that even though McMahon is a money grubbing bastard, he’d rather take some of his money to make it work than see the company go in the shitter. WWE will be fine. They may have lower ratings and some lower ticket sales, but it happens. It’ll be fine.
DC: Fuckin False. If anything it will convice WWE to book the best Quality shows in recent history! Like Cody Rhodes says, Its like Addition by Subtraction. I see this being the boost to the WWE to make it better than the Attitude era.
Milo: Fuckin False. WWE really has no major competition, and as long as that’s the case, they’ll manage to land on their feet. I also think that John Cena’s return will help boost ratings. Whether you love him or hate him, you must admit that he gets people watching the brand.
Yes, WWE’s stock has taken a dramatic fall of late, but look around. Basically every major company’s stock has dropped. Until we get our economy straightened out (Who knows how many years from now that’ll happen), WWE’s stock really can’t be judged poorly for recording low numbers.
RDB: Fuckin False. Everything is down. The whole US economy is as about as attractive Josh with his pants off, eating cheetos and watching porn. It’s not pretty. Hell if you are making a profit then you should write a book about it since it seems to be the hardest thing to do these days in big business. The ratings will return with Cena which is why they gave him the belt last night instead of having him chase the thing. Raw is actually putting together some good matches and it’s only a matter of time before people notice and start tuning in.
Statement 4: In hindsight, WWE should have kept Mike Adamle on as General Manager of Raw.
CK: Fuckin False. While it may be coincidence that the booking improvements occurred after his departure, I think it is safe to say that the ability to execute these types of angles would have been seriously hampered by Adamle’s “acting” in the position. His removal was the right move to make at the right time. WWE gave him 3 distinct opportunities to make a TV role work, and it just wasn’t right for Mike.
JG: Completely and Totally Fuckin False. I am ecstatic that that fucker is off TV. I hated him on TV and I am unbelievably happy that he’s gone. It’s kinda shitty how it happened considering they didn’t tell him about it, but I’m glad. I don’t really have much else to say about it. It’s just false. Bringing McMahons back on air has ALWAYS increased ratings, so this can’t possibly hurt. Hooray for the return of Nipple H.
DC: Totally True. Ive said it a million times and ill say it again, WWE really dropped the ball with Adamle, they had something going with his Adamle Originals and his Neutral/tweener/newbie Character, He was literally my favorite GM of all time and I really hope WWE brings him back. AS much as I love all the McMahon’s, Adamle was really rocking my boat.
Milo: Totally True. Not to suggest that he should have been kept on TV for another year, but another couple of months would have made it look like he was given a fair shake as Raw GM. Yes, he struggled mightily during his brief time on TV, but he was in the wrong place and wrong time more than anything else. If this was a time that WWE was excelling in the ratings, he could have kept that spot a bit longer, and improved over time.
RDB: Totally True. The WWE needs an on air General Manager for Raw. After Bischoff was fired I started to lose interest. Vince said he was going to find a GM, that never happened. He died, came back, died again and only then did we get a freaking General Manager for Raw. I liked Adamle. Sure he flubbed some lines and wasn’t really intimidating, but when he slapped Orton in the face I thought this guy had a future. Obviously I was wrong. To be frank, I’m not all that excited that Shane and Steph are back because they’ll only be around for a few weeks and then Raw will be left the same boring place it was after Bischoff. Adamle at least had a swagger that I could enjoy. He wasn’t threatening but with him at the helm we saw the Championship Scramble match, Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho in arguably the best singles ladder match of the decade, and Raw became fun again for a few weeks. It was a mistake to leave Raw without a figurehead.
Statement 5: We will see roster’s cut due to hard financial times in WWE (ala TNA).
CK: Totally True. We already have been. We’ve seen a whole chunk of Talent released over the last month, but if you want my opinion, most of them were the right people to cut loose. Its a shame when the economy forces these kinds of decisions, but they need to be made.
JG: Fuckin False. We’ll see rosters cut due to them having to pay the bigger stars to stay or to come back (Christian Cage), and we’ll see rosters cut due to drugs and ‘roids and to lack of talent (both on the creative team and the actual wrestlers). The hard financial times won’t end up having an impact on the product at all.
DC: Totally True. But to an extent, I think we’ll see a few people get the big Axe, but not as many as specualted, WWE is a very succesful company and to keep it that way they need their performers! In the long run I think WWE will be fine! Unlike TNA.
Milo: Fuckin False. The WWE doesn’t have nearly the amount of underutilized talent that TNA has, which is really what roster cuts are all about. Money does play a part, but not nearly to the extent that people think. If money was foremost in roster cuts, than John Cena or Triple H would be getting cut, because their getting paid considerably more than lower card scrubs. If a guy isn’t being used at all, and management is unable to conjure up a future storyline in which they would have relevance, they are the ones to get cut. Because WWE doesn’t have a ton of those guys, I doubt you’ll be seeing upcoming sweeping changes.
RDB: Totally True. The WWE is doing what it can to keep stock up and to keep its product entertaining. If that means that Vinny Mac is going to have to cut some of the fat (like he has been doing a little bit) then he will do so. WWE wants to hold on to big name talent and get whatever they can from TNA which means that some lower card guy’s have to go. This happens every year it seems like but with the economy down I think that the more talent slips up then the less likely they’ll be asked to come back next Monday, Tuesday or Friday night.
Totally True or Fuckin’ False #3
Let’s face it, we all know that I, JG, am right 99% of the time. Occasionally CK finds a nugget of rightness, but usually it all belongs to me. Since everyone loves arguing about things on our podcasts and our forums, we’ve decided to give you a way to read all of the heavily analyzed and expertly crafted opinions of our Pinfall Recall Team right here in one place, as we gather to decide whether each statement is “Totally True or Fuckin’ False!” Each and every week the team comes together to answer the tough questions, and the host changes every time.
