Wrestling News Digest 4/6/09: WrestleMania XV sets revenue record, JBL’s farewell, Comcast has PPV glitch, Flair appearing on ROH TV

WWE

WrestleMania sets WWE event revenue record

- WWE issued this press release today:

WrestleMania(R) Record Sellout

HOUSTON, Apr 05, 2009 — World Wrestling Entertainment(R) set a new record tonight at Reliant Stadium in Houston for the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania, grossing $6.9 million in revenue. This is the highest grossing live event in WWE history. With 72,744 in attendance, the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania surpassed SuperBowl XLIII in Tampa (70,774 attendance). WWE(R) fans from all 50 states, 24 countries and 7 Canadian Provinces attended the pop culture extravaganza.

“The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania proved that everything is indeed bigger in Texas,” said John Saboor, Senior Vice President, Special Events, World Wrestling Entertainment. “The great city of Houston welcomed WWE fans from around the world and helped make WWE history as the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania was our biggest ever.”

WrestleMania XXVI will take place at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ on Sunday, March 28, 2010. Ticket information will be announced later this year.

Backstage thoughts on WrestleMania, JBL posts his farewell

- The feeling backstage to WrestleMania was that HBK vs. The Undertaker stole the show, Ricky Steamboat looked great at his age, and that HHH vs. Randy Orton came off “poorly”. Some feel that they will work to get the title to Orton tonight. Overall management was happy with attendance and gate figures, and the backstage mood was described as “good”.

- JBL posted a WWE Universe blog after WrestleMania last night, with the title “JBL No More, Thank You.” The full blog can be read here, the following are some highlights:

“I don’t know what the future holds, never say never in life. But I have wrestled my last match. Months ago, I picked out this match. If Eddie Guerrero couldn’t be here for it then my dear friend Rey was the obvious choice, and I’m proud he was. I want to thank the WWE for a great career, for taking a chance on me and allowing me the keys to the car for a while. I will always represent the WWE wherever I go, I am proud of my 13 ½ years with the WWE. And, I am proud of the WWE for cleaning up a great sport to make it more healthy to everyone that is a part. However, I have no current plans on doing anything in the future on a professional level with WWE. I don’t plan on doing commentary, in fact; it hasn’t even been brought up to me. I don’t plan on being an on air character. I plan on starting the next chapter in my life, and closing the door on this one.”

WrestleMania buyrate could be affected by PPV glitch

- PWInsider.com is reporting that there was a problem with the HD feed (and possibly the SD feed) of the WrestleMania 25 pay-per view for all Comcast users. Comcast is the nation’s biggest pay-per view provider so this means anyone who ordered it and experienced that problem will get a refund and that could effect the final buyrate.

WWE rescinds decision to pull Jimmy Hart from Booker T’s convention

- PWInsider.com has just confirmed that World Wrestling Entertainment has changed their stance and has rescinded pulling Jimmy Hart from tomorrow’s Fanfest being promoted by Booker T.

There’s no word on whether the open letter Booker posted at www.BookerTLOW.com had any bearing on the latest move, but as of this afternoon, Booker received word Hart would be coming as originally scheduled.

None of the other talent originally scheduled for the Fanfest who later pulled out will be appearing beyond Hart.

ROH

ROH Newswire for April 2nd

- Ring of Honor will be in Houston, TX this weekend for two gigantic events. Both events take place at the George R. Brown Convention Center, 1001 Avenida de las Americas, Houston, TX 77010. “Supercard of Honor IV” will take place on Friday night with a bell time of 8:00 PM. This event features Nigel McGuinness vs. Jerry Lynn for the ROH World Title; KENTA vs. Davey Richards for the GHC Jr. Heavyweight Title; Tyler Black & The Necro Butcher vs. Jimmy Jacobs & Austin Aries; Roderick Strong vs. Katsuhiko Nakajima; Byan Danielson vs. Alex Koslov; World Tag Team Champion El Generico, vs. Claudio Castagnoli vs. Brent Albright vs. NWA World Champion, Blue Demon, Jr. in a Four Corner Survival; World Tag Team Champion Kevin Steen, Jay Briscoe, & Magno vs. Chris Hero, Eddie Edwards, & Incognito; Colt Cabana vs. D-Lo Brown; plus more. Tickets will be available to purchase at the door on Friday night.

- On Saturday we have a special matinee Pay-Per-View taping with a start time of 2:00 PM. For those fans attending the WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony at night and the ROH show in the afternoon, the buildings are right next to each other. You won’t have to miss either event. Ring of Honor presents “Take No Prisoners” featuring a Dream Tag Team Match with GHC Jr. Heavyweight Champion KENTA & Tyler Black vs. Katsuhiko Nakajima & Austin Aries; Bryan Danielson vs. Jerry Lynn vs. Erick Stevens vs. D-Lo Brown in a Four Corner Survival; ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness & Claudio Castagnoli vs. NWA World Champion Blue Demon Jr. & Brent Albright; Jimmy Jacobs vs. The Necro Butcher in a No DQ War; Alex Koslov vs. Roderick Strong; ROH World Tag Team Champions Kevin Steen & El Generico, Jay Briscoe, & Magno vs. The American Wolves, Chris Hero, & Incognito; Colt Cabana vs. Ace Steel; plus more. Tickets will be available to purchase at the door on Saturday afternoon.

- This Saturday’s episode of Ring of Honor on HDNet features a great main event of “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson vs. Austin Aries. Other bouts include Sterling James Keenan vs. Erick Stevens, Dark City Fight Club vs. Cheech & Cloudy, and The Necro Butcher vs. Chris Hero. For more information including air dates and times click here: http://www.hd.net/ringofhonor.html.

- “That Young Knockout Kid” Chris Hero has claimed that he’s perfected the rolling elbow strike due to knowledge bestowed on him by the legendary Mitsuharu Misawa. Others simply claim that his knockout prowess is due to an obviously loaded green elbow guard. ROH officials have been unable to find any concrete evidence to prove that the elbow guard has been doctored in any way, and super agent Larry Sweeney refuses to comment other than to praise the deadly precision with which Hero has been able to dispatch his opponents. Now Hero will have the chance to put that elbow to use as his opponents for ROH’s return to Canada have been finalized. On April 17th in Montreal, Hero will face rising Canadian star Frankie the Mobster in singles competition. A win by Frankie could secure him future ROH appearances, while Sweet-N-Sour Incorporated claims that this contest is nothing more than a “sparring session”. Then on April 18th in Markham, the challenge for Hero would appear greater as he’s signed to face the Necro Butcher! These two recently met during the inaugural ROH on HDNet television tapings, and that match will air this weekend on HDNet! Can Hero “pad” his personal win column in Canada?

- A pair of tag team matches has been signed for Dayton on April 24th. First, the Phoenix Twins will make their Dayton ROH debut as they oppose the team of Austin Aries and “Addicted to Love” Rhett Titus. This marks the first time that they will team since the camaraderie between Aries, Titus, and Kenny King came to light in Pittsburgh. Can the athletic Phoenix Twins score the huge upset, or is this just the beginning of great things for Aries and his newfound friends? Also, the Dark City Fight Club has been very impressive since debuting in ROH back at Proving Ground ‘09, and they’ve run roughshod over everyone they’ve faced in ROH since then. Now they will see a rematch from Proving Ground ‘09 Night One, as they will face the ROH World Tag Team Champions, Kevin Steen and El Generico in non-title action. The DCFC couldn’t score the upset back in Coral Springs, but now they have momentum on their side while the champs have been busy trying to fight off the American Wolves. Can the Fight Club knock off one of the best tag teams on the globe?

- Chicago Ridge will be buzzing on April 25th as two big matches have also been signed. It looks like “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson’s fight against the Embassy will continue in Chicago as Prince Nana has secured a singles match between Danielson and his “crown jewel”, Jimmy Rave! Rave and Bison Smith fell to Dragon and Colt Cabana at the Seventh Anniversary show in New York, and now Rave wants redemption. He hasn’t forgotten the past, and wants nothing more than to set in the heel hook and slay the Dragon. Can Rave use the past to his advantage? Also signed for Chicago Ridge, a special attraction has been signed as Larry Sweeney has gotten Chris Hero signed to one of his highest profile matches since returning from Japan. On April 25th, Hero will face Tyler Black! Sweeney and Hero know that a victory over Black could catapult Hero into title contention, and they would love nothing more than to see that happen sooner than later. Black is also preoccupied, looking over his shoulders at all times for Austin Aries and Jimmy Jacobs. Get ready Chicago, besides those great matches you’ll also witness the “homecoming” of Colt Cabana ! Tickets are on sale now at www.rohwrestling.com. Don’t miss it!

- After conversations yesterday, we have learned that ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness has been strongly advised by medical personnel that further injury to either of his arms could result in surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation process which would keep him out of action for several months. The safety and well-being of every performer is without question the top priority for ROH officials but McGuinness has informed everyone involved that nothing will stop him from “shattering Geritol Lynn’s ridiculous dreams”. Those comments aside, ROH officials are considering McGuinness a “game time” decision. Should McGuinness ultimately be unable to compete this weekend in Houston, ROH officials and the Booking Committee are prepared to shift the card.

- Jimmy Jacobs faces the Necro Butcher as part of “Take No Prisoners” on Saturday in Houston as outlined in this week’s main page article. But Jimmy will see Necro again, this time as part of another of the Television Main Event for Ring of Honor on HDNet. On April 10th in South Philly it will be tag team warfare as Jacobs and the gargantuan Brodie Lee will take on the Necro Butcher and Delirious! HDNet executives consider their network a family-friendly platform, but they have seen the type of carnage that can result when Jacobs and his hatred are at full bore. Considering the history and bad blood in this match, there is no telling how far any of these men will go to destroy each other!

- The Buy 3, Get 1 Free Ring of Honor DVD Sale is back at www.rohwrestling.com. The sale will also be in effect at this weekend’s live events in Houston. New DVD releases include Proving Ground 2009 weekend from Florida. “Proving Ground 2009 Night 1″ from 2/6/09 in Coral Springs, FL features Tyler Black vs. Davey Richards; Kevin Steen & El Generico vs. Dark City Fight Club, Nigel McGuinness vs. Brent Albright; Bryan Danielson & Jerry Lynn vs. Jimmy Jacobs & Delirious; Necro Butcher vs. Austin Aries; plus more. “Proving Ground 2009 Night 2″ from 2/7/09 in Orlando, FL features Bryan Danielson vs. El Generico in a great match; Nigel McGuinness vs. D-Lo Brown for the ROH World Title; Tyler Black & Necro Butcher vs. Jimmy Jacobs & Delirious, Davey Richards vs. Kevin Steen; a wild six man tag; plus more.

- You can now save 30% Off the regular price on live event tickets for ALL upcoming Ring of Honor events. No discount code is needed. Ticket prices have already been reduced at ROHWrestling.com.

- We’ll be back on Monday with an answer as to whether or not the “Tables are Legal” tag team title match between the American Wolves and Steen and Generico will happen in Philly, as well as more match and talent announcements for Montreal, Markham, Dayton, and Chicago, and the aftermath from ROH’s huge debut deep in the heart of Texas!

Simon Diamond files molestation lawsuit

- Former ECW and TNA Performer Pat “Simon Diamond” Kenny is currently filing suit against, claiming sexual abuse as a child, against a teacher and priest at a prestigious Delaware high school. Here is the press release:

Former TNA Star Files Child Sex Abuse Lawsuit Against Priest

Church Officials Knew Cleric Was Abuser, Yet Allowed Him to Stay in Schools in Three States

Simon Diamond Vows to Help Keep Kids Safe

“The Time for Silence and Shame is Over,” He Says

A former TNA Wresting Star filed a child sex abuse lawsuit today, accusing a teacher and priest at a prestigious Delaware high school of sexually abusing him when he was a young teen student at the school.

Pat Kenney, who wrestled under the name Simon Diamond, used a landmark Delaware Law, the Child Victims Act, to come forward and tell his story of childhood sexual abuse at Wilmington’s Salesianum High School, where he says he was sexually molested by known predator Denis Killion.

Rev. Denis Killion was removed from ministry when four men came forward in August to accuse him of sexual abuse. Letters exposed in the cases showed that church officials knew that Killion was a molester, but instead of removing him, moved the priest to schools in Pennsylvania and Florida.

http://www.bishop-accountability.org/news2008/07_08/2008_08_07_Parra_LettersSupport.htm.

Since then, a fifth victim has come forward.

- Former professional wrestler Jeff Gaylord, 50, was arrested in late January at his home in Littleton, Colorado for committing two bank robberies. Gaylord worked for many promotions, including the UWF, World Class, the USWA, the GWF, the AWF, Memphis as well as stints in Puerto Rico.

Gaylord has previously been convicted of bank robbery back in 2001 and entered a plea of guilty. He was then sentenced to six and a half years in prison. This time, he was caught at a second robbery as a witness was able to get his license plate number. Gaylord would reportedly disguise himself with sunglasses, a hooded sweatshirt, a band-aid over his nose and even a fake beard. Booker T comments on WWE taking superstars from his charity event

- The Houston Press has a story today that follows up on Mike Johnson’s earlier report that certain talents are pulling out of Booker T’s charity show in Houston on WrestleMania weekend.  They talked to Booker who said, “It’s not going to stop anything, we’re still going to go forward with it…We’re just replacing those people with actually bigger names.  I don’t think me doing my charity is going to hurt the revenue of WrestleMania, or hurt the Hall of Fame, and we’re not doing this, you know, to hurt WrestleMania…or ride their coattails or anything.”  They talked to World Wrestling Entertainment employee Robert Zimmerman who said, “I don’t even know what his charity deal is, to be perfectly honest with you.”

WWE

WrestleMania and Mickey Rourke, Draft news, Creative news

- At this point, the plan for WrestleMania XXV is to have Mickie Rourke sit at ringside and get involved somehow with the finish of the Jericho match, reports WrestlingObserver.com.  The idea is to build Rourke up as a former boxer and somehow implement a Big Show-type of punch to Jericho when Rourke is confronted.  As far as Jericho’s opponent for the event, Vince McMahon has apparently been telling people that he has it covered, but no one knows who it is at this point.  Hulk Hogan is saying that they could not come to an agreement and unless plans change at the eleventh hour (which is very possible), it won’t be him.  There is some talk of Jerry Lawler being the guy to face Jericho since he’s stated in the past that he would like to wrestle at WrestleMania before his career is over.  He has never wrestled on a WrestleMania event.  Nothing is confirmed at this point, however.

- This year’s draft decisions will mostly be decided the weekend of WrestleMania due to the fact that the entire creative team will be there in Houston.  Vince plans on holding extended meetings that weekend to discuss the direction heading out of WrestleMania and after the draft.  It does look at this point that Triple H is definitely coming over to Raw because most of the key people don’t believe his WrestleMania match with Orton is going to be a one-off deal.  Outside of that, it doesn’t seem like much talk has went into the draft yet.

- As we’ve reported, Freddy Prinze, Jr. is now out of creative, although reports now indicate that many have expected this for quite some time, specifically Stephanie McMahon.  She offered him a promotion complete with more duties a couple of months ago, but he declined claiming he was looking at giving notice a few days later.  Stephanie talked him into staying on part-time for a while, but he virtually took himself out of the picture for weeks leading up to his departure.  He was on the creative email-list that went out, but had not been attending shows and if he did give any input via email, no one knew about it.  The idea is that WWE would like to keep some sort of working relationship with Prinze, but it will not be in any creative capacity.

CM Punk talks about house shows, his good year, building ROH, and more

- Alfonso Castillo of NY Newsday has posted an interview with CM Punk as part of the hype for the Nassau Coliseum show tomorrow.  You can read the full interview by clicking here.

The advantage of house shows versus televised events: “I think as a fan of wrestling, you can’t beat going to TV for the grand spectacle of the whole thing with the pyro, the music, and just the entire event atmosphere. It’s larger than life. But when you go to a house show, if you’re a wrestling fan, I think you have a better time because we have the freedom to pay more attention to the audience. We have the freedom to kind of go a little bit off in different directions. It’s more relaxed if that makes any sense. I know personally, I always have a better time on house shows. Sometimes at television you have to think about it. You’re doing a specific timed, television show. On a house show, we don’t have those restraints.”

Punk’s successful 2008: “The fact that I’m 30 years old, and in just this last year, in one entire year, I was ECW champion, I won the Money in the Bank at WrestleMania, I became World Champion, I was Tag Team Champion and I was the Intercontinental Champion, you know? And I won a Slammy.”

Thoughts on Ring Of Honor: “I’m proud to be able to say that I’m one of the guys that built that place – to just be able to say that that place is around because of me and handful of other guys. When times were tough, we were the guys who carried that place on our back – me, Samoa Joe, Homicide, Gabe Sapolsky. And of course there are countless others who are probably going to be mad that I didn’t mention them in this interview. But when you boil it down, we were the core guys. And I just love the fact that we built a place for guys to work and to learn. I’m very proud of that.”

Mick Foley discusses TNA storylines and wrestling again

- Mick Foley recently conducted an interview with Slam! Wrestling and discussed quite a bit, including twists and turns that the fans should look out for in upcoming months, him training for the Lockdown pay per view, TNA critics, and much more. The following are excerpts from the interview. To read the article in its entirety, click here.

On twists and turns in the MEM/Frontline angle:

“I think the feud has given a lot of focus to the show. We haven’t seen anybody jump sides, and depending on who does, it could be even more interesting. (It could) shake things up in a big way. Who knows? It might be me.”

On the timing of his first match back in the ring:

“Clearly it wasn’t the biggest match I could have been in, but I think it may have been the right time. It’s unlike (my last stint in WWE) in that now, it’s not going to be one match every couple of years; it’ll be a few matches a year. You don’t want your jumping off point to be the absolute zenith of your time there.”

On TNA’s critics:

“Some people have a love-hate relationship with TNA like they really want it to work but sometimes they get frustrated when things don’t seem to go the way they like it. (To those people, I say) just have patience. Some weeks we’re going to hit the bullseye, sometimes we’re going to miss the target completely. But overall, a year from now, I think people will think that the company has made great strides.”

On training for a match return at Lockdown:

“I am training and gearing up as if I might have to do something at that show. I’ll leave it at that, for people to wonder about.”

The event on Saturday night starts at 7:30 PM. The show on Sunday has a special 3 PM bell time. This is it, perhaps the most important weekend in ROH history as HDNet and ROH present the first National Television tapings in our 7-year company history! Don’t be left out as we tape the first 6 weeks of the brand new television series, which debuts on HDNet on March 21st! Scheduled to appear this weekend in Philadelphia are: ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness, Bryan Danielson, ROH World Tag Team Champion Kevin Steen, Jerry Lynn, The Necro Butcher, Tyler Black, Jay Briscoe, Chris Hero & Eddie Edwards with Larry Sweeney, Austin Aries, Brent Albright, Claudio Castagnoli, Delirious, Jimmy Jacobs & Brodie Lee of The Age of the Fall, Kenny King, Rhett Titus, & more. What more needs to be said!? You DON’T want to miss your opportunity to be on National Television with ROH for the first time! If this match doesn’t personify the “ROH 101″ concept and give a huge taste of the style and action that new fans can come to expect from Ring of Honor on HDNet, nothing will. Come down to the Arena this Saturday and Sunday, as ROH and HDNet look to kick off a long-term relationship, and we want each and every one of you along for the ride!

- ROH officials have been told to expect a visit from Prince Nana at some point this weekend, and he’s apparently coming to “talk business”.

He will team with his former Resilience teammate, Erick Stevens, to face the brash Kenny King and Rhett Titus in a contest of two teams made up of supreme athleticism, power, and according to Titus, “dependable thrust that you can trust”. Can M-Dogg make a splash in his return? Will King and Titus enter the ring in Pittsburgh the newly crowned World Tag Team Champions?

- Just signed for ROH’s 7th Anniversary Celebration at the Hammerstein Ballroom on March 21st are two matches that would main event anywhere in the country! D’Lo Brown looks to continue to impress ROH officials and fans as he has signed to face Jay Briscoe in Manhattan! “Man, I got all kind of respect for D’Lo,” said Jay. “And it’s an honor to face him in NYC. But D’Lo, I gotta warn you, this is ROH, and in ROH it’s simple. Man up, or get out.” Also signed for singles action is “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush! Quackenbush, making his return to ROH, will be locking up with Jerry Lynn! “I grew to love watching Jerry Lynn perform,” said Quack. “And to see his revival of sorts in ROH has been refreshing; it’ll be great to test myself against Jerry and to once again perform for the great ROH fans.”

- Bryan Danielson sent word to the ROH Booking Committee that he wants Bison Smith in the worst way, and apparently one match isn’t enough. He’s asked to face Bison in both St. Louis on March 13th and on the ROH debut in Indianapolis on March 14th. We have yet to receive word from Bison on whether or not he’ll accept this bold challenge from “the Best in the World”.

Second-Generation star released

- World Wrestling Entertainment announced that Manu (Afa Anoa’i, Jr.), son of Afa the Wild Samoan, has been released from the company.

Manu was signed to a developmental deal in late 2006. He was brought up to the Raw brand last year to second Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes as part of a second generation unit.

There had been some unhappiness about his work and look, which led to his removal from the Legacy group. He hadn’t been seen in several weeks after being broken off from the Legacy storyline with the last tease sort of being that he and Sim Snuka would have some sort of partnership.

Hulk Hogan allegedly offered lead role for The Wrestler

- Hulk Hogan recently did an interview with The Los Angeles Times and he speaks on being offered the role of Randy “The Ram” Robinson in The Wrestler, however he decided to turn it down. The following are some selected quotes from the interview:

“The movie got made and they cast Mickey Rourke…I thought he did a great job…I don’t think the public could have handled it, though…Just made me realize after seeing the movie with Mickey Rourke that if someone does the real Hulk Hogan movie, you better hang on for the ride, brother.”

“Made me realize how shock value - that just the drop of reality - can have an effect on the public,” Hogan said. “It was wrestling light. Very light version of wrestling.”

- On whether Rourke should have decided to wrestle at Wrestlemania 25: “You don’t want to jade your performance or have the Hollywood community look at you like, ‘you sold out.”

He then related a situation where he once told The Rock to seperate himself from the wrestling world if he wanted to have a successful movie career. He went on to say that he ended up only being offered B-Movies because although he was interested in acting he always went back to wrestling, which the Holywood community would not accept.

You can listen to audio of the interview if you click here.

Smackdown’s future with MyNetwork TV

- WWE issued the following press release earlier today in response to a press release sent out by The Associated Press:

WWE®’S SMACKDOWN® FUTURE?
February 9, 2009

STAMFORD, CT – February 9, 2009 – In light of today’s announcement by MyNetworkTV, World Wrestling Entertainment® officials are certain that SmackDown has a bright future.

WWE SmackDown, airing on Friday nights at 8:00/7:00 PM Central on MyNetworkTV, is the number one program on Friday nights on all broadcast television for males under the age of 50, including the key advertiser demos, M12-17 and M18-34.

WWE SmackDown will enter its 10th consecutive year this Fall, attesting to the popularity and longevity of the brand.

Additional information on World Wrestling Entertainment Inc (NYSE: WWE) can be found at wwe.com and corporate.wwe.com. For information on our global activities, go to http://www.wwe.com/worldwide/.

- The Associated Press initially issued the following press release earlier today:

NEW YORK (AP) - In a sign of the economic times, My Network TV says it will essentially become a rerun network next fall except for professional wrestling.

The move shows how the tough advertising climate is affecting television. Instead of developing new programs, it will show reruns of “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” and other series.

My Network TV will also stop programming on Saturday nights, leaving that night to their affiliates and owned stations.

Chris Jericho news

- The original plan for WrestleMania was to be Chris Jericho vs. Mickey Rourke in some form of boxing match, with Ric Flair in the corner of Rourke. That may still happen, but if Rourke ends up not coming back into the angle, there are two ways the angle could go. The first is the Jericho vs. Flair match, which seems to be already teased. The second is a match between Chris Jericho and Steve Austin. Austin reportedly says Jericho is one of the few people he would trust to have a match with at this point, and also, it would play into Jericho’s recent promo work, where he made fun of “washed up Hall of Famers.”

- The Times Colonist has a story up about this past weekend’s altercation between Chris Jericho and some fans. In it, a female fan alleges Jericho of getting out of his car and calling her heckler boyfriend a racist slur. When she called Jericho a racist, she claims that he spit on her and then punched her. WrestleMania tickets still available

- The Wrestling Observer is reporting that despite ticket sales being strong for WWE’s Fan Axxess weekend and the Hall of Fame ceremony, the Wrestlemania 25 PPV itself is no where near sold out. Ticket sales are modest at this point, with WWE bringing in about a $5 million dollar advance gate, however there are still plenty of tickets left for the big show. Interestingly, it appears that the Hall of Fame ceremony will indeed surpass last year’s ceremony in terms of ticket sales. At this point, the only confirmed inductions are Stone Cold, Ricky Steamboat and “Cowboy” Bill Watts. That has to be considered impressive, and shows that Stone Cold is still a very big draw in this business.
