Wrestling News Digest 5/19/09: WWE vs. NBA continues, Kurt Angle has happy feet, Johnny K-9 arrested, and much more
WWE
More on the WWE vs. NBA story
- Several shows have been talking about the Vince McMahon vs. NBA story since it broke yesterday. ESPN morning talk shows “First and 10” and “Mike and Mike” have discussed the topic and taken the side of Vince, saying that Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke is in the wrong for trying to violate the contract he signed with WWE months back. Obviously the WWE will be thrilled with the free national press they are receiving.
- WWE.com has posted an update on Monday’s Raw, which was scheduled to take place in Denver’s Pepsi Center. You can read the full update here. The following excerpt discusses the venues that have been offered to the company for next week’s show…
“While working to resolve the scheduling conflict between Raw and the Denver Nuggets’ NBA Western Conference Semifinals game against the Los Angeles Lakers, WWE officials have received proposals from numerous venues including Madison Square Garden and, ironically, the STAPLES Center – the home of the Nuggets’ Monday night opponents, the Lakers. In addition to numerous other venues, these major-capacity metropolitan arenas proposed to have WWE’s flagship program emanate from their locations instead of Denver’s double-booked Pepsi Center this coming Monday.”
- The latest on Monday’s Raw is that WWE is looking into running the show in Colorado Springs. An official announcement is expected shortly, as they don’t have much time to deal with the ticket situation.

MVP says that prison led to his wrestling career
- The Evening Post over in the UK has a very interesting interview with MVP where he talked about how he got into wrestling when he was in prison. He said, “Actually it was one of the guards – he was an independent wrestler and would bring in video tapes and title belts. I was at work release, which is when you’re at the end of your prison sentence and you stay at a facility and work at a regular job out in the community. He told me he’d take me in his ring and teach me a bit. Needless to say the rest is history.” It’s a great example of someone turning their life around. To read the whole piece, click here.

ROH
Larry Sweeney and Dragon Gate claims ROH owes money, ROH responds
- Dragon Gate’s Cima made the following comments regarding Ring of Honor. The full blog entry can be read here.
“Well, I can’t tell you in detail because our lawyer is working on this case in the States, but what I can tell you is Dragon Gate no longer has any relationship with ROH. One of the reason is because we haven’t got payment from the past ROH show held in Japan in September 2008. Some of the ROH wrestlers’ airfare and their guarantees were supposed be shared between two companies, but the promise had never been kept. I recently hear from some of my dear friends not being paid by ROH as well. Any business is based on a trust, and we no longer wish to do any business with ROH again.”
- Ring of Honor then released this statement
We would like to comment on several topics that have been addressed by outside sources over the past week in regards to Ring of Honor. This will be our only public comment in regards to these issues.
First, Alex Whybrow’s (Larry Sweeney) claim that he is owed money from ROH. Mr. Whybrow is under contract with Ring of Honor. His contract clearly states that he is paid “X” amount of dollars when he appears for Ring of Honor. Mr. Whybrow has been paid in full for all dates in which he has performed in front of Ring of Honor fans. Any claims in regards to payment for dates in which he has been unable to perform is not in accordance with his ROH contract. Everybody at Ring of Honor would like to wish Alex the best of luck in dealing with his current issues.
Secondly, CIMA from the Dragon Gate promotion in Japan has made claims that Ring of Honor owes Dragon Gate money from our Sept. 2008 show stating “Some of the ROH wrestlers’ airfare and their guarantees were supposed be shared between two companies, but the promise had never been kept.” This statement is false. All Ring of Honor talent was paid in full for these events along with their airfare. CIMA and the Dragon Gate promotion are very well aware of what agreements they did not live up to in regards to the ROH/Dragon Gate show and why we choose to no longer do business with them.
- Word going around was that Larry Sweeney will not return to the company until he is able to handle his personal issues.

WWE
Vince hates his leakage
Vince McMahon was said to be irate when word got out that Christian was going to be Jeff Hardy’s attacker so they ended up changing plans with Matt Hardy and Christian switching roles.
On Sunday afternoon before the No Way Out PPV, WWE actually placed a huge tarp around the Elimination Chamber as the wrestlers were planning out their match so none of the crew could see what was going on. WWE was worried that Edge’s role on the show would leak on the internet just like Matt Hardy’s heel turn leaked shortly before the Royal Rumble PPV.

Matt hardly believes in Jeff
- Matt Hardy has posted a blog talking about why he didn’t interfere with Jeff Hardy’s involvement in last night’s Elimination Chamber Match. Hardy wrote: “At No Way Out in Seattle, I gave you the opportunity to win the WWE Title inside of the Elimination Chamber. I listened very closely to what you had to say on Smackdown last week. You said you were going to “move on” and win the WWE Title regardless of what I wanted. You also mentioned that you hoped this issue between us will one day pass over.
So from the bottom of my heart, I didn’t interfere with your Elimination Chamber appearance and/or match. Nor did I need to.. You failed like you always do. I wanted to reinforce to everyone what a failure you truly are-how you can never pull through and succeed in a “big time” atmosphere. How you always choke. It’s nothing new though.”
Hardy added: “I’m afraid the WWE is not big enough for the both of us. I recommend you do the smartest thing possible for your life and livelihood right now. And that’s walk out of the WWE and my life. You have until Friday to make your decision.”

Regal, Punk’s only fan?
- The new WWE Champion Triple H is celebrating his 13th World Title reign as WWE.com’s Superstar of the Day today.
- The dark match before No Way Out last night was Melina defending her WWE Women’s Title successfully against Beth Phoenix.
- According to a fan in attendance, former WWE Diva Amy “Lita” Dumas” was at Friday’s RAW/ECW house show in Los Angeles. The fan saw Lita with a hoodie on, and no one seemed to recognize her. He did, but didn’t want to blow her cover. The fan also saw ZZ Top, Arsenio Hall and Michael Clark Duncan at the event.
- The Daily Star has an interview up with RAW star William Regal talking about his heart scare following WWE’s tour of Europe last November. “I had a bit of a strange episode after the tour – I thought it was a touch of flu, but it turned out to be trouble from years ago with my heart,” Regal told The Star. “When it happened before, I kept it quiet on medication, but this time I had ablation therapy just after Thanksgiving, where they put the tubes up through my hip. I’m not sure if they could have done it years ago!”
Regal also discussed his recent program with CM Punk and he believes they could have done a lot more. “I honestly believe we haven’t scratched the surface on what we can do together,” Regal said. “I’ve been fan of Punk for a long time now. I’d heard about him from his work with ROH. If I liked him before, I’m very impressed now.”
Regal says he doesn’t let anyone else’s opinion of Punk affect him, as he knows what the Intercontinental Champion is capable of in the ring. “It’s been a long time since I found anyone in the ring who I have this sort of special connection with,” Regal said. “His rep doesn’t bother him or me; some like him, some don’t.”

Cena was homeless?
Former World Heavyweight Champion John Cena was interviewed before last night’s No Way Out pay-per-view by Jim Moore of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. You can read the entire article at SeattlePI.NWSource.com. Some highlights:
- Ten years ago this summer, Cena was folding towels and cleaning toilets at Gold’s Gym in Venice Beach, California, while living out of his car.
- Sorry ladies - Cena is engaged and says, “I’m gonna get married this year.”
- Cena wants to be a role model and says it means a lot to him when parents say their kids look up to him. “I don’t know when it happened, but nowadays it seems like nobody cares,” Cena said. “Our main figures are collapsing around us. People don’t seem to know that other people are watching them.”
- What happened with Alex Rodriguez and the steroids revelations sickened him. He actually thinks if everyone really wants to get serious about cleaning up the game, “they should send the guys to jail.” As for steroids, Cena understands why his incredible physique may draw some steroid speculation. “I’m not only a guy who will say I’m clean, but I’ll beat my chest to the world that I’m clean,” he said. “I have very, very strong opinions on that.”
- With his movie career taking off, Cena seems to like the idea that he could be the next Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone action star. “That’s a giant void in cinema,” Cena said. “Everywhere I go, the question is always: ‘Who’s the next guy?’ I think I’m damn near the closest thing to come around the pike.” Wow, is he serious?

Another TNA FAIL Game?
- Several TNA stars worked the New Japan event this past Sunday. Beer Money defeated Masahiro Chono & AKIRA, Kurt Angle defeated Giant Bernard and Team 3D defended their IWGP Tag Titles against Toru Yano & Togi Makabe. Angle will be challenging IWGP Champion Hiroshi Tanahashi on Japan on March April 5th, the day of WrestleMania.
- TNA is expected to be signing new Knockouts soon.
- Satanico el Exotico is scheduled for the TNA iMPACT tapings next week.
- Jakks will begin working on TNA’s action figure line next month in preparation for their January 2010 release.
- Despite Midway Games filing for bankruptcy and owing TNA several thousand dollars, they have began work on TNA’s next video game as late as a few weeks ago. It’s believed they are trying to get the game done and out as soon as possible so it can be credited to Midway’s assets.
- Word going around Puerto Rico is that TNA has purchased a stake in IWA Puerto Rico, but it may just be an angle they are doing down there. LAX won the IWA Tag Team Titles last week and Samoa Joe also worked for the promotion last week. Speaking of Puerto Rico, TNA has a live event scheduled there on 3/20.

John Cena speaks on Ted Dibiase, The Rock, Orton, and more
- The Baltimore Sun recently spoke with John Cena about WWE, he movie 12 Rounds, and more. Here are some of the highlights:
On Ted Dibiase Starring in The Marine 2: “I really think he has a lot of potential to be a success and another person to kind of transcend the wrestling business into the movie business. He’s a very hard worker, learns very, very quickly and understands exactly what this opportunity is. That’s the one thing I really tried to hit home with him. I said, “Listen, they’re choosing you for a reason. The Marine did extremely well on DVD, so when The Marine 2 comes out, just because of the franchise, the DVD will sell, so you’re already involved with something that will be successful. If you do a good job, that’s a great way for you to make a name for yourself on to bigger and better things.” So I think he totally understood that. I certainly didn’t give him much advice about acting because he went through the same kind of torture chamber I did – meeting with an acting coach all the time and really trying to do his best. I just really hit home about how great the opportunity was for him.”
On Dwayne Johnson: “The truth is that Dwayne Johnson is a great actor and I think always wanted to be an actor, and there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s like an athlete saying, “Hey, I don’t do drugs,” and then getting busted for drugs. It’s not the truth. I mean here’s a guy who said he was WWE through and through, and then the first chance to take a road to a different career path, he took it. There’s nothing wrong with that. Dwayne’s one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. He’s one of the hardest workers you’ll ever meet, and he certainly is a great actor. The roadblock that I have, because I certainly am in love with this business and I don’t see myself leaving it any time, is when someone says that and then leaves, it cheapens our business. If he’s going to say that, then back your word. That’s the only beef that I have and that’s what I told the people at The U.K. Sun. It just cheapens that phrase: “Oh, I love this business.” So then next time I come up and say I love this business, well, the guy before me who said that left. That doesn’t look good for me or our business.”
On Randy Orton: “As a matter of fact, when we were in OVW, we thought we wouldn’t make it out of Kentucky. I don’t want to say we were two lost souls, but we were surrounded by talent that was one of the greatest developmental units to ever be assembled. I think WWE started the developmental system in the mid ’90s, and that class of 2000 through ‘02 I think is the most successful that has ever been. We were literally just two average guys among some very gifted performers, and never once did we think we’d be headlining WrestleMania. I’ve said this before and I said this before his – what is this, his fifth or sixth “breakout?” – that he is the best guy we’ve got. He is certainly the best performer of my generation.”
On His Tweener Character: “Here’s the deal with my character: I’m in a really unique place. You’ve seen me get cheered, you’ve seen me get booed. Where I’m at right now, there is no good guy or bad guy. I can just be me, with certain little adjustments to my character, I guess, that makes me a “good guy” or a “bad guy.” The people who are going to decide that are the paying customers. When they get sick and tired of me, they’re going to turn on me. And when they turn on me, I’ve openly shown in situations where I get booed that I can turn on them back.”

Midway files for bankruptcy
- The company behind TNA iMPACT!, Midway Games Inc. has filed for Chapter 11 for its U.S. operations. The announcement from Midway notes that the TNA Impact video game has shipped approximately one million units, but that doesn’t mean all of those units were sold. The company filed for bankruptcy protection and will continue to operate as it had during the bankruptcy proceedings.
The filing did not come as a shock to those within the company as they had been hurting for some time and had let some staff go a few months back. A second TNA video game is on the docket for the future.

WWE officials upset with star’s wrestling talents
- The Wrestling Observer is reporting that WWE officials are apparently unhappy with Shad Gaspard’s ring work. Although Cryme Tyme was initially released from the company on account of bad behavior, it’s being said that while their backstage attitudes have seen a tremendous improvement, it’s the slow learning which Gaspard has displayed that have many backstage in WWE questioning his future with the company.
Shad recently had a meeting with Johnny Ace, and it was explained to him that the company feels they cannot rely on him as a solid in-ring performer because his wrestling skills are not not up to par with his partner’s. As most can see, Shad’s ring time is generally very limited when he is wrestling in tag matches, with most of the wrestling being done by JTG. Shad’s limited ability is also the reason why you never see him in singles matches, and company officials are unsure whether or not they will ever be able to push him as a singles wrestler if the time ever came to break-up Cryme Tyme. It should be noted that Gaspard trains down at FCW while in between road trips, however it appears as if his work is not improving with the amount of quickness that WWE would like.

TNA roster cuts include familiar names
- TNA will not renew the contracts or both Lance Rock and Petey Williams. The reason for this is said to be an effort to freshen up the undercard roster by replacing talent that has been with the company for an extended period of time. The plan is to bring in some new performers to replace them. There is no heat with either Williams or Rock, and the feeling is that both could be back with the company down the line.
- TNA has also opted not to renew the contract of Jimmy Rave.

Stevie Richards might become involved in TNA angle
- Jason Powell of Prowrestling.net is reporting that Stevie Richards may play a role in Abyss’ current TNA storyline. Richards was backstage during this past Monday night’s Impact taping and it’s now being rumored that he may end up debuting with the company as the therapist Abyss continues to refer to on the program. The report is also noting that although there has been talk of using Richards, there is also concern amongst some officials that if they do bring him the company may end up furthering their image as a place where WWE rejects go to work.

- Former WWE and TNA wrestler, Shannon Moore, met with Dixie Carter at the Genesis pay per view, reports ProWrestling.net. Carter has had some hesitations about rehiring Moore due to his decision to leave TNA for WWE, but Jeff Jarrett is apparently an advocate for bring him back to the company.
Moore said in a recent interview with BetweenTheRopes.com that he left TNA because WWE offered him a better deal financially. He was going through a divorce at the time and needed to make that move.

ROH
ROH Newswire for January 22!
- January 22nd: Tyler Black laid it out there in the newest edition of the ROH Video Wire and now we simply must wait. We must wait to see if Jimmy Jacobs and Austin Aries can put aside several months of bloodshed and hatred for the prospect of tearing Tyler Black apart even more than they already have. Black came closer than he ever imagined to becoming ROH World Champion, but once more, the involvement of Jacobs, Aries, and ultimately many more, seemingly shattered that dream. We know that Tyler is ready to fight, and he wants them both in Chicago. Will Jacobs and Aries accept the challenge, and if so, who will Tyler ask to watch his back?
- Speaking of the ROH Video Wire, Jerry Lynn let us in to see a side of himself that most never have. Jerry talks candidly about his experience seeing the acclaimed motion picture, The Wrestler, and in many ways draws parallels between his life and that of the main character in the film, Randy “The Ram”, played by Mickey Rourke. Most importantly, Jerry raises a question in his own mind, “Was Nigel right in Nashville?” Lynn will get the chance to prove that Nigel was wrong when he faces the incredible Tyler Black in Detroit, and teams with The Necro Butcher to face Delirious and Brodie Lee on PPV in Chicago. General admission tickets for both events in Detroit & Chicago are on sale for $10 each until Friday morning at www.rohwrestling.com. Combine that price with the current 20% off sale listed on the main page of the site and you can get a great deal on tickets for these big events.
- “Sugarfoot” Alex Payne had some recent comments on his big match against Silas Young on January 31 in Chicago. Silas has paid his dues all over the Midwest, and has impressed ROH officials on a number of occasions. We now learn that he will face his toughest test yet in Detroit. Young will face a man who would challenge the adage that a leopard can’t change his spots. In Detroit, Silas Young will oppose Austin Aries in singles competition. Aries, who has been talking about his great manifesto as of late, commented, “I know Silas. In fact, I know him well. I also know that time is of the essence. And I know that being in the right place at the right time is sometimes more important than anything else. On January 30 in Detroit, Silas, it won’t be your time and you’ll be out of place and when I’m done, another chapter of the ‘A-Double Manifesto’ gets sent to print.”
- ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness was in contact with several ROH officials over the past 48 hours. As reported, ROH officials are questioning everyone involved in the main event that took place in Edison last Saturday night to ascertain whether any “foul play” took place at the timekeeper’s table. The contest between McGuinness and Tyler Black would otherwise easily be considered a match-of-the-year contender, if not for this alleged black mark. McGuinness was extremely agitated when questioned on the matter, yet his denials aside, ROH officials seem to think that Nigel had more incentive than anyone else to entertain the idea of shortening the contest. Is it pure coincidence that the bell rang immediately following the same series of maneuvers that beat Nigel the night before in Manassas? We’ll continue to update you as details become available.
- Speaking of McGuinness, in Detroit at “Motor City Madness 2009″ he’ll be in singles action and the voices of the fans have been heard. Many people have been clamoring for Jay Briscoe to get a real opportunity to showcase his skills as a singles performer, and on the 30th in Detroit he’ll get that chance. It’ll be McGuinness versus Briscoe, and even though it will be a non-title affair, this match could propel Jay into the upper ranks of ROH! A strong singles showing by the elder Briscoe would no doubt be a welcome delight to Mark Briscoe, who as we all know will miss considerable action. We are still waiting to find out who Nigel will face in Chicago, but we have been told that the title will be on the line when ROH returns to Pay-Per-View in the Windy City!
- SHIMMER Vol. 21 & 22 are set to be released on DVD next weekend at www.rohwrestling.com. Check out a trailer for these titles…
- With the amount of talent coming to Coral Springs and Orlando looking to prove their worth, ROH is titling the February 6th and 7th events “Proving Ground ‘09″. The first match we’d like to announce for Coral Springs is a tag team attraction with plenty of intrigue as the Dark City Fight Club of Kory Chavis and Jon Davis will look to make their mark in Ring of Honor. And what better way to send a statement than by taking on the best. On 2/6, The Dark City Fight Club will take on ROH World Tag Team Champions, Kevin Steen and El Generico! Although this will be a non-title contest, a win by the DCFC would go a long way to showing that they belong in ROH.
- In other Florida news, Davey Richards and Larry Sweeney of Sweet-N-Sour Incorporated have also been added to “Proving Ground ‘09″ weekend.

Updates on Matt Cappotelli and A-Train
- The Wrestling Observer is reporting that Tough Enough 2 winner Matt Cappotelli, who is pictured at the right, was in fact released from his WWE $75,000 downside guarantee contract due to cost-cutting measures within the company. Capotelli has been largely inactive in WWE since he was diagnosed with a brain tumor shortly before being called up to the main roster 3 years ago. WWE felt like it would be in poor taste to release him while he was being treated for his tumor, as it would paint a very unsympathetic picture of the company. However, since Cappotelli’s tumor has been removed and his condition is currently stable, the company felt as if they could proceed with his release considering he cannot wrestle.
- Giant Bernard, formerly A-Train of WWE, apparently angered Kurt Angle following a mistimed powerbomb that Bernard gave Angle following a match they taped for TV in Japan. Bernard was supposed to wait a few minutes after the match concluded do deliver the bomb, which would allow TNA to edit the move out of their broadcast, however Bernard went right into the spot following the match finish. TNA does not want to air footage of Bernard doing a move like that to a top star like Angle, as he may come off as the weaker of the two.

Jonathan Coachman update
- Former WWE personality turned ESPN announcer Jonathan Coachman was interviewed in the latest syndicated Alex Marvez column today, which you can read by clicking here. Coachman noted that while he enjoyed working for WWE, he didn’t see it as something he wanted to do forever. “It really started to wear on me the last couple of years,” Coachman said. “I enjoyed the (WWE) job, but not the travel. Toward the end between doing games and WWE shows, I was on the road five days a week for 51 weeks a year. I also got married, which put strain as well.” Coachman said there was no chance of him ever going back, but he keeps in contact with people in the company and visits shows when they are in the area.

Upcoming WWE DVD projects
- Jim Ross noted in his blog at www.JRsBarBQ.com that he was consulting with World Wrestling Entertainment on a planned Greatest Tag Teams DVD project that would be released later this year.
- WWE is also rumored to be in the process of editing a DVD set devoted to the “Greatest Stars of the 90s” which would be a sequel to a similar title devoted to 1980s stars. The DVD would obviously chronicle stars from the Monday Night Wars, the Attitude era and the rise of the original ECW, so it should be interesting to see who ends up profiled. The DVD is set for an April release right now.

Multiple TNA stars injured
- Jeff Jarrett was in a lot of pain following his match with Kurt Angle at last night’s Genesis PPV. During the match, Angle suplexed Jarrett off the stage into a table, however the spot was botched when Jarrett missed his target, and he caught a nasty landing. It should be noted that Jarrett was carried out of the Impact Zone in a stretcher for storyline purposes only. He did not in fact require it due to the bump he took.
- In addition, Sting worked last night’s match with Rhino with an injured knee and Alex Shelley was apparently very ill. These are piled on top of recent injuries to Kevin Nash, Awesome Kong, and Christy Hemme.

Time Warner cable re-pricing could affect Raw, Cena moves up the celebrity food chain
- After rumors that Time Warner cable subscribers could be losing TNA’s home channel Spike TV, it looks like WWE could be severely effected by the cable company as well. Time Warner Cable announced today that it will report its first annual loss in six years after losing approximately $25 billion in assets. Time Warner is jacking up the price of standard cable service, which will affect WWE RAW’s home channel USA Network. “Watching games on ESPN, WWE Raw wrestling bouts on USA Network, or rich-kid antics on MTV’s The Hills is about to cost more as Time Warner Cable raises rates,” reports the Democrat & Chronicle out of Rochester, NY.
- John Cena’s celebrity status outside of the wrestling world seems to still be increasing, as a Hollywood research firm recently said that the WWE Heavyweight Champ was the fifth most-sought-after celebrity in 2008. Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers and Zac Efron were also in the top 5. Cena was ahead of Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Angelina Jolie. Cena continues to act as the public face of WWE, speaking exactly what Vince McMahon wants him to say in order to convey his vision of the WWE brand to the world.
Speaking of Cena, here’s a link to a poster for his new movie called 12 Rounds

Raw, Smackdown, and ECW ratings galore!
- This past Friday night’s (1/2/09) edition of Smackdown drew a final 2.1 network rating, which is up from the previous week’s 2.0 number.
- The 1/6 edition of ECW garnered a 1.35 cable rating, which rounds up to a 1.4. Bet you didn’t think more people would watch Jack Swagger, Mark Henry, and Matt Hardy than they do Sting, Kevin Nash, and Kurt Angle.
- The 1-5-09 WWE Raw broadcast delivered a 3.4 cable rating, which is down slightly from last week’s 3.5 draw.

JBL deviates from the company line on The Wrestler, releases new drink
- On the WWE Universe, JBL has posted a new blog entry, where he discusses The Wrestler. You can check out the full blog entry here. Below are his comments on the film:
“A lot of people ask me about The Wrestler. I thought it was awesome and extremely well written. This was the business I broke into many years ago. However, that business has changed - and for the better. In the last six months, I have had MRIs, concussion tests, HIV test, trauma test, drug test and even my cholesterol tested - which was the only one I failed. This business in WWE is really a corporate environment these days - it has changed for the better. I am glad for my old days, I wouldn’t change a thing. But the WWE has done so much to clean up the abuse that the business as I knew it was so known for. All that being said, I loved the movie. Even with all the negative stereotypes in the movie, this was a part of what I did to get to WWE and it was fun to watch. A little scary to watch, but fun.”
- The commercial for Layfields Energy Plus, which features former WWE Diva Torrie Wilson and Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Wade Boggs, is now running on his website. You can see the full commercial here.

WWE changes referee protocol
- Starting soon WWE will stop the branding of referees and all refs will wear the same shirts (likely the traditional black & white stripes), and only two refs will be going out on the road for Raw & Smackdown House Shows rather than three.
Whether this will lead to any refs being released is unknown.
Some refs also work on ring crews. Mike Posey & Charles Robinson are examples. It is possible they could be booked on some shows only as ring crew now rather than as ring crew and as refs too, as ref pay falls under the talent budget and ring crew pay falls under a different budget.

WWE social networking site is now up and running
- World Wrestling Entertainment is now officially in the social-networking industry.
The company has officially launched WWE Universe, an online destination for the millions of WWE fans to gather and discuss all things WWE.
WWE quietly tested the website since April and has already obtained more than 200,000 users without spending a dime on advertising or promotion.
WWE Universe is seen as a way to keep WWE fans in one place and capitalize on it, rather have them switch between, say, Facebook or MySpace.
The company will be able to gain more revenue from online ads and merchandise sales. It also creates a community and user base to which it can promote upcoming projects, including its slate of films that start rolling out early next year, beginning with the Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2 Director) actioner “12 Rounds,” starring John Cena.
WWE Universe includes profile pages, message boards, discussion groups, live chats and blogs but also includes active participation by more than 80 WWE entertainers.
The site traffic is mostly men 18-35. But it’s also proved popular among women, who currently account for 40% of its user base.
“People are looking less for a passive experience and more for an interactive experience,” said Brian Kalinowski, WWE general manager of digital media.
WWE also found that its audience on the website wanted more video and less text.
“They want more interaction with talent and richer media,” Kalinowski said. “We’ll be making the transition to a site that’s more image- and video-heavy.”
As part of that, WWE.com launched an enhanced video player last month that already has boosted viewership of original programming by 77% and increased ad impressions by 95% through pre-roll ads that play in front of video content.

TNA could be releasing more talent soon, Frank Trigg on his way back?
- Mike Johnson from PWInsider.com is reporting that TNA is heavily discussing releasing some of their under-utilized talent as of late. Lately, the talks have been more abundant and releases of the lesser used stars should come as no surprise.
- Speaking of TNA, everyone’s favorite MMA crossover, Frank Trigg, is reportedly telling those who will listen that he will be back in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling shortly, possibly working with Kurt Angle. This has not been confirmed, but it seems likely.

NWA news and notes from tapings
- For the NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood TV Tapings, due to scheduling issues with talent, many of the segments were filmed out of order.
NWA champion Blue Demon Jr. was only available on the first taping on Friday, so everything with him was filmed then.
Adam Pearce was unable to attend until Saturday’s taping, so his segments were all filmed Saturday and Sunday.
Dave Lagana, former WWE Creative team member, was brought in to work on the TV tapings. Lagana, who is living in Los Angeles, was added to the NWA’s creative team to work on the writing, formatting and timing of the tapings due to his experience with WWE.
There was an audio issue with the friday night tapings where everything was recorded on one audio channel, as opposed to the crowd, announcers, and the ring each being recorded on separate individual channels. This will make it very hard to work on in Post-Production.
Porn stars Ron Jeremy and Trina Michaels were in the audience at the Saturday taping.
Several matches and segments were taped for alternate versions of the show and for future DVD releases by Big Vision Entertainment.
