Official Government Report On Steroids

- Here is the letter, composed by Henry A. Waxman (The representative to the 30th District of California in the US House of Representatives), to The Honorable John P. Walters, the Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, in regards to the use of steroids in pro wrestling.

January 2, 2009
The Honorable John P. Walters
Director
Office of National Drug Control Policy
Executive Office of the President
Washington, DC 20503

Dear Mr. Walters:

As you may know, I will be leaving the Oversight Committee to become Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee. Before I make this transition, I want to provide you with information from the Oversight Committee’s investigation into the use of steroids in professional wrestling, which over 3 million children and teens watch regularly. I also request that your office examine the systemic differences in the testing policies and practices of professional wrestling that the investigation has found.

On June 24,2007, Chris Benoit, a professional wrestler with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), killed his wife and son and hung himself. According to press reports, Mr. Benoit’s testosterone levels were ten times normal levels when he committed suicide. In response to concerns about this incident, the Committee wrote to the WWE, Total Nonstop Action, and other professional wrestling organizations requesting information on their steroid policies and their knowledge of steroid abuse within their organizations. The Committee also conducted transcribed interviews with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and other professional wrestling officials.

The documents produced to the Committee, and the information provided during interviews, indicate that steroid use is pervasive in professional wrestling and that the organizations involved have not taken adequate steps to address this problem. The information reviewed by the Committee shows:

In the first year of the WWE’s testing program, which began in March 2006, 40% of
wrestlers tested positive for steroids and other drugs even after being warned in advance
that they were going to be tested.

Six months after the WWE announced its 2006 steroid testing policy, it relaxed the policy
to allow wrestlers suspended for steroid abuse to participate in “selected televised events”
and “pay-per-views.”

The WWE hired four of five wrestlers who tested positive for steroids in “pre-contract”
testing conducted in2007 and 2008.

The WWE regularly approved “therapeutic use exemptions,” explicitly allowing the use
of steroids as part of a “testosterone replacement acceptance program” for wrestlers who
abused steroids in the past.

Test results from the ‘WWE’s top competitor, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, reveal that
a large proportion of TNA wrestlers have also tested positive and that there are
significant weaknesses in the TNA testing program.

The Committee obtained information relating to the death of Chris Benoit. According to
WWE officials, Mr. Benoit was tested four times for steroids prior to his death. He tested
positive three times, but each time he received only a warning or no penalty at all. The
Committee obtained no evidence that efforts were made to discourage his steroid abuse.
World Wrestling Entertainment Policies and Practices

According to documents provided to the Committee, the WWE had a steroids testing
program in the 1990s that was eliminated in 1996, On October 25,1996, the WWE’s Chairman
and CEO, Vince McMahon, issued a memo explaining his decision. The memo stated: “the
incidence of illegal and performance enhancing drugs is so slight that group testing is no longer
cost effective or necessary.”

In March 2006, Mr. McMahon reinstituted the steroids testing program after press reports
suggested that the death of popular WWE wrestler Eddie Guerrero four months earlier was
linked to steroid abuse.’ Under the new WWE policy, the first series of tests were considered
“baseline tests.” ‘Wrestlers were informed in advance that they would be tested and that no
penalties would be imposed. The documents produced to the Committee indicate that 75 of the
186 wrestlers (40%) tested positive for steroids or other drugs.

After this initial baseline testing, the WWE began imposing penalties for wrestlers who
tested positive. Despite these penalties, between March 2006 and March 2008, testing of WWE
wrestlers resulted in an additional 34 positive test results for steroids. The WWE, also reported
to the Committee that there were an additional 23 positive tests for other drugs, including cocaine, ecstasy, and methadone.

The drug policy was weakened when allowed wrestlers to perform even in
cases where they had been suspended as a result of positive drug tests. On August 21,2006,fhe
WV/E issued an amendment to the substance abuse policy stating that the WWE “may, at its
discretion, schedule the Talent to work selected televised events without pay and pay-per-views
with pay during the 30 day suspension period.”

On September 25,2007, the Committee interviewed Dr. David Black, who is the program
administrator for the WWE steroid testing program. In his interview, Dr. Black stated that this
amendment was adopted because “it was becoming difficult to deal with the talent who were
being suspended,”8 Dr. Black told Committee staff that he was “unaccustomed to programs that
suspend and you’re not suspended.”

In addition to the large number of positive drug tests, documents provided by the WWE
indicate that between November 2007 and March 2008, five individuals tested positive for
steroids in “pre-contract” testing, Despite these positive tests, WWE hired four of these
individuals.

On September 24,2007, the Committee staff conducted an interview with Dr. Tracy Ray,
a physician with Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center who is under contract with the
WWE as the “medical review officer” for the WWE’s steroid testing program. During his
interview, Dr. Ray discussed the WWE’s policy for “therapeutic use exemptions” to allow
wrestlers to continue performing while using steroids. Dr. Ray informed the Committee that he
is not a trained endocrinologist. He also stated that he does not examine wrestlers, discuss their
medical conditions with their doctors, or conduct detailed reviews of their medical conditions
before granting therapeutic use exemptions. According to the documents produced to the
Committee, Dr. Ray approved seven therapeutic use exemptions since 2006. Dr. Bay informed
the Committee that there was “shadiness in almost every case that I’ve reviewed.”

Dr. Black, the WWE’s program administrator for the steroid testing program, described
these therapeutic use exemptions as “a testosterone replacement acceptance program.”” He
indicated that this policy allows wrestlers who have damaged their endocrine system through the
abuse of anabolic steroids to continue using these drugs.l3

On December 14, 2007, the Committee interviewed Vince McMahon, the Chairman of
the WWE and one of its most well-known performers, Mr. McMahon has admitted to using
steroids in the past. He refused to answer questions from the Committee, however, about his
personal steroid use.’5 Mr. McMahon informed the Committee that even though he continues to
perform in wrestling events, he is not subject to the WWE substance abuse policy, including its
drug testing provisions. I 6

During his interview, Mr. McMahon was asked whether he knew if there are health risks
from steroid use, including long-term risks. He responded: “I’m not a doctor. I don’t know.”

When asked what he would tell wrestlers who asked about potential health risks, he answered:
“I don’t know if there are really any long-term effects of steroid usage.”

When asked whether steroids could cause impairment and risks to wrestlers and others in the ring, Mr. McMahon indicated that he had never considered the question.

As part of the Committee’s inquiry, the Committee sought information about any steroid
testing involving Chris Benoit, the wrestler who killed himself and his wife and son in June
2007. WWE officials informed the Committee that Mr. Benoit was tested four times under the
WWE program, He tested positive three times. He received no suspensions or other penalties as
a result of these positive tests, and the Committee obtained no evidence indicating that efforts
were made by WWE to discourage his steroid use, An autopsy of Mr. Benoit revealed that at the
time of his death, he had ten times the normal testosterone level in his system.”

Total Nonstop Action Wrestling Policies and Practices

The Committee also obtained documents relating to the steroids policies and testing
practices of the WWE’s top competitor, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA).

According to the documents, the TNA conducted baseline steroid testing of its wrestlers starting in January 008. The documents provided to the Committee indicate that, despite having advance warning of these tests, 15 of 60 wrestlers (25%), tested positive for steroids.

An additional 11 wrestlers tested positive for other drugs.

Eight months later, in August 2008, the TNA issued a drug and alcohol abuse policy that
includes random testing, although it fails to explain the protocol for selecting wrestlers who will
be tested or provide information about how samples will be collected.

Conclusion

The evidence obtained by the Oversight Committee indicates that illegal use of steroids and other drugs in professional wrestling is a serious problem that the wrestling organizations are not effectively addressing. One former wrestler who agreed to talk to Committee staff on condition of anonymity explained that, in the wrestling business, “steroids are like white socks and tape, they’re just part of your gear,”

Since the Committee began its investigation last year, both the WWE and the TNA have made efforts to improve their steroid testing programs. But these efforts suffer from a lack of independence and transparency. As a result of these weaknesses, the organizations appear unable to effectively prevent the use of steroids and other illegal drugs by professional wrestlers.

Over 3 million children and teenagers watch professional wrestling each week. The apparently widespread use of steroids in professional wrestling sends the wrong message to youth. For this reason, I request that ONDCP examine steroid use in professional wrestling and take appropriate steps to address this problem.

If you have any questions regarding this letter, please contact Brian Cohen of the
Committee staff at (202)225-5420.

Sincerely
Henry A. Waxman
Chairman

New JR Blog!

Here’s hoping that every one had a great New Year’s Eve. My late father called December 31 “Amateur Night” which meant the Mrs. and I “laid low” Wednesday night at home. Football and movies were the order of the evening.

I exchanged text messages with Ric Flair and told him that wife Jan and I were “laying low” at home and for him to be careful knowing his proclivity to party especially on a big night like New Year’s Eve and he said it was IMPOSSIBLE for the Nature Boy NOT to party on such a big night and ended the text with a giant WHOOO!! Some things never change.

One has to wonder how “Naitch” is feeling today?

Flair, along with HBK,  created my most memorable moment of 2008 with Ric’s gut wrenching, memorable match at Wrestlemania 24 in Orlando at the Citrus Bowl. I am so proud that I was a part of the announce team that called “Naitch’s” last match. The King doesn’t get too wrapped up in that sort of thing but that was a moment that I will cherish forever.

When HBK retires, which hopefully won’t be any time soon, he told me he wanted me to call his last match too. I asked what if I’m not on the air any longer and he said it didn’t matter and that I could come back for one more match. Those may have been some of the nicest words any wrestler has ever said to me.

Certainly Ric Flair’s classy and memorable send off at WM24 and the following night on Raw has essentially reinvented the “Greatest Wrestler of All Time” who will likely have one of the most intriguing and headline grabbing years in the wrestling business in 2009. Knowing many of the projects that Ric is working on leads me to believe that ‘09 could be a banner year for Ric in many areas. Time will certainly tell.

After broadcasting two Friday Night Smackdown’s in Jersey on Tuesday night I want to tip my hat to the fans in attendance who were a great group and the majority stayed for the production of both broadcasts. I can assure you that broadcasting two Friday Night Smackdown’s in one evening is much more challenging than the days of the King and I broadcasting entire PPV’s alone. A 4+ hour night is a helluva lot more taxing that is doing a just under 3 hour PPV that has been promoted for weeks and which one is familiar with the content.

I do think that the Smackdown doubleheaders are a great idea but they need to continue to be refined especially on how the second show is produced. For me, being able to be off the road a couple of extra weeks per month isn’t a bad thing plus producing two shows in one night saves the company huge bucks and gives fans in those markets where two shows are produced a bonus and the chance to see a great deal of content produced.

My biggest professional wish in 2009 is to see many of the second generation and other new wrestlers, new meaning that they have only been in the biz a year or two, step up, become more aggressive, assert themselves in every level of their professional process and thus become new, main event stars. The development of new stars is the most important thing the business has to deal with from my point of view.

Our new blog is up at the Smackdown site on WWE.com and we should have our college football picks posted on WWE.com at any moment as well.  College football picks with a wrestling flavor as you will see for those of you who are not college football fans.

We are anxious to join our fellow Sooner fans from around the nation converge on Miami, Florida for the National Championship game on January 8. Not having to tape Smackdown next week has helped facilitate an extended stay in south Florida which is never a bad thing.

Today it is the mandatory meal of black eyed peas and collard greens with represent good health and wealth respectively which has been a staple meal on New Year’s Dad at the Ross homestead since I was a youngster which I know many of you find that hard to believe…the part of once being young.

Have a great day and remember to check out our Q&A’s and our new material up at WWE.com.

Pinfall Recall News Feed For December 21st

TNA

News Tidbits

- Vince Russo was pushing for an Al Snow vs. Mick Foley feud, but Jeff Jarrett overruled Russo and axed the program. Jarrett felt that if Snow had too much of an affiliation with the Main Event Mafia, that it would take away from the exclusiveness that the group has, being that they are all former World Champions.

- Brutus Magnus (Nick Aldis/Oblivion from the UK Gladiators) is being hyped on TV because they want to have a British star to promote for the upcoming UK tour. The company chose him because he had some mainstream appeal due to the UK Gladiators show.

- Nathan Jones will be starting with the company around the next PPV.

- Homicide, Hernandez and Booker T will be working on the IWA’s Annual Histeria Boricua show on January 6th.

- TNA has also provided talent (Team 3D and Shane Sewell) to WWC, which is the competitor to IWA.

R-Truth Interview

credit: hiphopdx.com

Late this week, HipHopDX spoke to Hip Hop fan and WWE wrestler R-Truth about the significance and tradition of the event. “It’s something that if you’ve never experienced, it is something that needs to be experienced. It’s awesome, it’s compelling – something that you could hardly explain. The troops are there, and they are so pumped up, so day to day visiting the hospital, going from the different camps, seeing the smiles and excitement and interviews, and they were very excited to see us come there. It’s just a love that was given both ways, from us to them and also from them back to us.”

The wrestler added that he traveled with nearly 30 of his colleagues to honor America’s dedicated troops.

R-Truth said that the experience touched him deeply, “Those guys over there are putting their life on the line for us. To me, it’s like entering WrestleMania in Iraq. It’s inexpressible. I know a lot of guys there that came from my hometown; they have been stationed there for years, from North Carolina. People from other places too…And just to have someone come there - a lot of wrestling fans too – but just to have someone come there and to perform, give them a show, they’re very appreciative of that.”

The tribute will air this evening on NBC.

Tribute to the Troops Ratings Report

While the patriotic nature of the “Tribute to the Troops” show makes the ratings performance more trivial than usual, such viewership data still serves to measure WWE’s relevance in pop culture and predict future interest in airing the annual program on national television.

This year’s special drew 3.39 million viewers, according to a report by MediaWeek’s Marc Berman. That total viewership figure - and its 1.05 in the adults 18-49 demographic - placed WWE’s program in fourth for the 9PM time slot Saturday night.

On a positive note, the program did defeat NBC’s 8PM airing of “Crusoe” (2.9 million viewers). It also tied ABC’s 8PM airing of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” in the 18-49 demographic, so it was not the night’s worst ratings performer, although it was in its time slot. Most importantly, its audience increased from start to finish; the show drew 3.32 million viewers from 9-9:30 and 3.45 million from 9:30-10.

Lance Cade Interview
The Interactive Interview courtesy of http://www.WrestlingEpicenter.com with Lance Cade from 12/19/08
Hosts: Patrick Kelley, James Walsh, & Nick Noel

It is one week before the true grand-daddy of them all… No, I’m no talking about WrestleMania or Starcade but Christmas! To celebrate the festivities of the season, we bring you one of the brightest young stars we’ve seen come down the pike in years. It is rare that we can say and mean that we have always been positive about a wrestler on the show but that is the case with Lance Cade. And, in a rare turn of events, Lance Cade is also a fan of ours! How cool is that?

In this near hour long extravaganza, Cade talks about his entire career from training with the “Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels down in Texas to his big break in the WWE all the way through his release and beyond. This is a very candid and educational interview with a young man who has already been to the top and, we are sure, will be there once again!

You can hear this interview right now at http://www.WrestlingEpicenter.com as well as well over 300 other top wrestling interviews compiled over the past 6 years. We have always done this at no expense and that will not change anytime soon. But, if you want to give back for our efforts, we do have a store where you can pick up some great stuff and also help keep us free. http://www.WrestlingEpicenter.com

LANCE CADE:

- Lance Cade joins us on TII and admits to us right off the bat that he is a fan of the site & the show! He says that he reads the interviews and says “the site is really good”! Cade says he basically lives wrestling 24/7 so our interviews are a good way to pass time for a wrestling fanatic.

- Since leaving the WWE, Cade has had more time to spend with his family. He says that he was signed to a developmental deal with the WWE when he was 18 and had been with them for 9 years which didn’t leave much time with his wife & kids. Right now he is working for NWA Hollywood, is set to make appearances in Japan, and has rejoined Trevor Murdoch as a tag team which he’s really thrilled about.

- James mentions that Richie Steamboat will also be making appearances in Japan. Cade puts him over heavily and says “he’s identical in the ring to his father” and he puts over Ricky as the best babyface of all time. He also feels that it speaks volumes about Richie Steamboat and Reid Flair learning the ropes and going to Harley Race’s WLW because they both must realize that if they wanted it, they could immediately get a WWE contract like Randy Orton who Cade says didn’t even want to be a wrestler. It isn’t clear, however, if that was intended to be a negative shot at Orton or not.

- He was surprised that the Cade & Murdoch tag team worked so well. Originally it was supposed to be him & Kevin Fertig (Kevin Throne) and that many people liked the idea for the team. Tommy Dreamer called him up one day and told him he’d be working with Trevor as his partner one week before working with Fertig. He says that they clicked instantly. After a few weeks, he was asked which partner would work better for him in terms of in ring work and he picked Trevor.

- Cade says that the major plus to working with Trevor is that they could adapt to any team they faced and adjust to their style. He says they would have done really well in the late 80s when teams like Rockers, Hart Foundation, & Demolition were around.

- When asked about “The Band Being Back Together” when he reunited with Murodch, he acknowledges that it was weird how they were split in the first place, but he was very happy that they put him and Trevor back together. He puts over Arn Anderson as the strongest supporter of the team and they ended up spending a lot of time with him picking his brain to learn as much as they could from him because, “that’s who we wanted to be”.

- He teamed with Mark Jindrak, and he says that he had a great time teaming with him. He says that he’s working in Mexico right now and his talent is really blossoming over there. Teaming with him didn’t really work initially because they were thrown together and made face, but he says once they turned them heel, they were able to click better. He feels that there were no major plans for them though and they got split up not long after Wrestlemania XX.

- Cade loves tag team wrestling and says there aren’t a lot of real tag teams anymore. He says one of the big problems is that not many young guys are willing to do it anymore because you can’t be the top star in the company as a tag team. He puts over The Major Brothers, Curt Hawkins & Zach Ryder, as a team that started & trained as a team and was determined to make it as a team. But, Cade does not think it is fair that Vince McMahon or the WWE writers get the blame for the state of tag wrestling today.

- They had him as Garrison Cade originally because Lance Storm was on the roster at the time. He didn’t really like the name and mentions that Chris Jericho actually referenced the South Park character Mr. Garrison to him. When Cade was returning from the knee injury, he approached Vince McMahon and aired his dislike of the Garrison name. Vince seemed surprised to hear that Cade didn’t like it but agreed to allow him become Lance Cade. Cade feels that being Lance Cade allowed him to feel more himself instead of Garrison Cade where he never felt comfortable.

- Cade feels that most guys aren’t willing to do that with Vince because they are afraid of him. However, veterans like Shawn & Austin told him that eventually you have to speak up for yourself and get past the “I’m just glad to be here” stage. He feels he and Murdoch did a lot of that with Vince.

- He talks about his past experience, he says that he was a product of the WWE Developmental system, but he spent alot of time with great veterans like Regal, Michaels, Tracy Smothers, Jerry Lawler, Bobby Eaton, & Harley Race. He learned from them, and said it was some of the best experience he could have ever had. He says that a lot of young guys go straight to FCW and that is their only experience which limits them. Cade often wonders what would have happened if he hadn’t gone through the WWE system at a young age & opted to travel the World more and gain more experience. He once again mentions Richie Steamboat saying that he isn’t rushing to the top despite the fact that he could probably get by on his name.

- With all of the new opportunities coming his way, he says that he has plenty of chances to learn new things and says that “the day you stop learning new things from this business is the day you gotta leave it” If he ever goes back to the WWE, he feels that he would be a better wrestler.

- When asked about TNA, Cade says that “they are one storyline or one superstar away from being neck & neck with Vince” and he says that he keeps up with TNA, ROH, and various other promotions. He says there are great talents over there and he’d love to work there if given the chance.

- We bring up his pinfall victory over Shawn Michaels, he says it was great to do it, but it was just great to get to work with Shawn as many times as he did as they had many great matches. When he was trained by Shawn Michaels, he says that Shawn was very hands on in his training and did very well, especially with his class. He said alot of the other guys in there wree Shawn Michaels marks that were in awe of him, but Lance said that Shawn noticed that him and a few others were more determined to learn as much as possible from Shawn.

- This leads to a discussion about Shawn’s TWA promotion which featured alot of young talent and mixed in with some ECW talents like Sandman & Justin Credible. He said it was also great because at the time, they were on Saturday nights against Smackdown & WCW Worldwide, and TWA got higher ratings than Worldwide. We mention how great it was to have so many options back then, and Lance agrees saying that it is just more fun to have various options to choose from.

- Cade is not surprised at all that Jeff Hardy is the WWE Champion now and says that he is one of the best in there today. He also puts over the series of matches that he & Murdoch had with The Hardy Boyz. He said that one night John Cena came up to him and told him that he just could follow those matches.

- Lance then talks about his departure from the WWE. He says that it was a long story that started with a very bad shoulder injury that he suffered in a match with Bob Holly. He feels Holly got lost in the match and instead decided to dump him over the top rope. Cade said it was a bump he had taken a billion times before but he landed the wrong way on the outside which dislocated his shoulder. He knew that there were plans to split him & Murdoch up again and a singles run was forthcoming and this time it was going to be for real. So, he declined surgery. He now regrets not having the surgery done. He was in pain, and he was prescribed for pain killers, but they weren’t working well enough to make the pain bearable. So, he took a stronger dosage which knocked him out which resulted in the incident that happened on that faithful October day.

- Lance wants it known that his prescription use was not for recreational use. He admits it was a bad decision that he made and he says that it was his fault. “I’ve learned from my mistake, and its time to move on”.

- Cade doesn’t know if the WWE harbors any ill will towards him or not. He’d like to believe they don’t but he isn’t absorbed in that now. He’s using this as a learning experience and feels there is an endless supply of opportunities on the table for him.

- He says that his drive & determination to become a better wrestler was the main reason he stayed on the roster even during times when it seemed like a lot of guys were getting cut. He says it can be very nerve racking to see the WWE get out the clippers and remove so many of the guys from the roster not knowing if you are next.

- Cade is currently working for NWA Hollywood and the company is very well done production & talent wise. He says it s a great place for guys to work, but he doesn’t see it taking TNA’s place as Number 2, a spot that Cade feels is pretty solidly set for TNA. He goes as far as to say that if TNA’s ranking moves anywhere, they’ll slip into #1 rather than fall to #3. He feels TNA is one solid storyline away from really taking off.

- When talking about his promo skills, he says that during the Jericho/Michaels feud, he got to do his first live promo, and he was told he did very well. He had wished he had gotten more time to talk during that feud, even though he knows that he was the third wheel. He recalls him & Murdoch going to the writers and saying that them getting time to speak would mean more than their ring work if given the chance. “Ok, Cowboy Lance Cade… So what?”, says Lance. He feels promo time would’ve given him the chance to define the character better.

- Cade was disappointed that a feud with Murdoch wasn’t made a larger part of the show. He says that alot of the guys backstage were excited about the feud as they had the reputation of beating up their opponents so this time they’d beat the heck out of one another, but, for some reason, it wasn’t treated as a priority to make the feud work. Cade references other tag teams splitting like The Rockers, and feels it could have been a major angle that can make big stars out of the guys involved but feels it didn’t come to pass.

- He then discusses the WWE’s movement to being more PG. Cade says that its harder to hold back when you want to say or do certain things, but he also understands that there are kids in the audience. But he also says its hard when a few years ago the WWE had used everything but the kitchen sink, but now he says the move to PG was going to seperate the Great workers from the not so great ones. He references the Edge vs. Undertaker: Hell in a Cell match as excellent without even using blood. He says its the WWE’s way of “reeducating the fans” and that Vince even held meetings about how to do it.

- As with all the guests, we ask Cade about the Chris Benoit tragedy and the way the media handled it. He says the media coverage hurt him greatly and many people were looking at him in a different way because he was involved in wrestling. He said he’d go home and look at his wife and kids and know he’d never do anything like that. But, he says the media, in one day and maybe just for one day, made the name Chris Benoit and the negatives that go along with the tragedy eclipse Hulk Hogan in notoriety. He mentions that he was also bothered by how uninformed the media coverage was citing the CNN hatchet job on the John Cena interview and how unfair that was as well as how ridiculous it was for Nancy Grace to discuss it every night for months.

Former Developmental Talent Found Dead

Steve Bradley, who was a WWE Developmental talent in the 90s, was found dead today at the age of 32. Bradley was found earlier today in a parking lot across the street from where he once operated a wrestling school in Manchester, NH.

Bradley wrestled on the Independent scene when he was 15/16 years old, and was signed to a WWE Developmental deal in 1998. He was assigned to the Memphis Territory and worked a lot with Kurt Angle during that time.

In 2002 Bradley was released, after never making the main WWE roster. During his time under contract, Bradley worked in HWA, OVW, Puerto Rico, other WWE Territories and the occasional dark match.

Bradley went on to operate a wrestling school after he release, which he shut down in the last 6-months. Reportedly Bradley had some personal issues over the last few years, and it was reported that he took the WWE up on the offer for rehabilitation as a former contracted talent. At this time the cause of Bradley’s death is unknown.

Our condolences go out to the family, friends and fans of Steve Bradley during this difficult time.

Pinfall Recall News Feed For November 9th

WWE

Wrestlemania Ticket Sales Dissapointing

- Ticket sales for WrestleMania 25 are, thus far, very disappointing for WWE. The show is not close to being sold out yet. WWE was hoping for a near instant sellout due to the WrestleMania name and because Houston, the location for the show, is traditionally a strong wrestling market. [WrestlingObserver.com]

- Despite the disappointment, WWE did their best to put a happy face on it by releasing this press release today.

TNA

James Storm Interview

On Tuesday night, November 4, James Storm, one half of the TNA World Tag Team Champions “Beer Money,” joined hosts Brian Fritz and Dickerman live on Between The Ropes on ESPN Florida AM 1080 and AM 1060 to discuss his current run with Robert Roode in Beer Money, the time he spent with Chris Harris in America’s Most Wanted and what was behind that team’s split, his beer holster belt, and much more.

The interview started out with some discussion about Storm’s character and how much fun it is to be able to excuse drinking anytime as just staying in character. Storm said “I take full advantage of that. And now the bad thing is Robert Roode is trying to get in on it too. I’ve seen him sneaking a beer or two out of my six pack and I’m like ‘what are you doing man’ and he says ‘well I bought the damn thing’ so I guess it’s all good then.”

James also talked about his beer holster belt. He said that he was able to sneak some beer into universal studios by using it. He also said he didn’t make it himself, but instead it was actually a gift from some friends of his.

Next James talked about how he feels about his current tag team with Robert Roode, Beer Money. “It’s working out really good. Me and Robert gel kind of like me and Chris did. We’re so opposite that it works well in the ring. We’re two totally opposite people, but when we get in the ring it just gels, it clicks.”

James has had a lot of success working as a tag team wrestler in an era where stable tag teams are something of a rarity. James was asked if prefers being in tag teams because of this and he replied that his success has been a result of being willing to do whatever he is asked to do, saying “I just make any situation work.”

Staying on the topic of his past tag team work James talked about the split of America’s Most Wanted and how he felt about having to be a singles wrestler. “I was against splitting up the team, but it’s one of those things where I had confidence in myself, I knew I could do it. I think a lot of people, including (AMW parter) Chris Harris, at the time, didn’t think I could do it.

“One thing I thrive off of is entertaining the crowd because the crowd is there to have a good time. That’s what I’m about. I can do wrestling, but I can entertain as well. That’s kind of where Chris lost track, because he’s a good wrestler, but he’s kind of bland in the entertainment part of it.” James also confirmed that it was Chris Harris’ idea to split up the team because Chris thought he could be a bigger star as a singles wrestler and discussed some reasons why Harris didn’t work out once he was signed by WWE.

The discussion then turned to Storm’s feelings on TNA’s growth since he has been there since day one. James said that TNA is still a lot the same as it used to be, though they are making more money now. He also credited Jeff Jarrett for keeping the locker room atmosphere so positive.

Storm was also asked his opinion of seeing so many guys jump to TNA from WWE since he has been with TNA since day one. “They didn’t come over with the big head, like they were better than everybody else. They came over to help the younger guys. They pull guys to the side after their match is over and critique them a little bit…I think that’s been a good thing. I traveled with Kurt on the road a little bit and he’s helped me out a whole lot.”

Christian Cage Rumors Swirl

Several sites have been reporting that Christian Cage is “set to stay with TNA”, and that “there was no talk of him actually having any intentions on going to WWE and that those rumors were inaccurate”.

I’m hearing the opposite and that it is more than likely that Cage will end up back in WWE for one last run.

The current economy has not helped anyone with investments and it is very possible that Cage sees one last WWE run as the best way to solidify his family’s financial security.

An additional rumor I’m hearing is that the Turning Point PPV or TV’s that follow might be Christian Cage’s last appearances for TNA, and that there may even be an angle in play that “says goodbye” to him tonight.
