WrestleMania and Mickey Rourke, Draft news, Creative news
- At this point, the plan for WrestleMania XXV is to have Mickie Rourke sit at ringside and get involved somehow with the finish of the Jericho match, reports WrestlingObserver.com. The idea is to build Rourke up as a former boxer and somehow implement a Big Show-type of punch to Jericho when Rourke is confronted. As far as Jericho’s opponent for the event, Vince McMahon has apparently been telling people that he has it covered, but no one knows who it is at this point. Hulk Hogan is saying that they could not come to an agreement and unless plans change at the eleventh hour (which is very possible), it won’t be him. There is some talk of Jerry Lawler being the guy to face Jericho since he’s stated in the past that he would like to wrestle at WrestleMania before his career is over. He has never wrestled on a WrestleMania event. Nothing is confirmed at this point, however.
- This year’s draft decisions will mostly be decided the weekend of WrestleMania due to the fact that the entire creative team will be there in Houston. Vince plans on holding extended meetings that weekend to discuss the direction heading out of WrestleMania and after the draft. It does look at this point that Triple H is definitely coming over to Raw because most of the key people don’t believe his WrestleMania match with Orton is going to be a one-off deal. Outside of that, it doesn’t seem like much talk has went into the draft yet.
- As we’ve reported, Freddy Prinze, Jr. is now out of creative, although reports now indicate that many have expected this for quite some time, specifically Stephanie McMahon. She offered him a promotion complete with more duties a couple of months ago, but he declined claiming he was looking at giving notice a few days later. Stephanie talked him into staying on part-time for a while, but he virtually took himself out of the picture for weeks leading up to his departure. He was on the creative email-list that went out, but had not been attending shows and if he did give any input via email, no one knew about it. The idea is that WWE would like to keep some sort of working relationship with Prinze, but it will not be in any creative capacity.

CM Punk talks about house shows, his good year, building ROH, and more
- Alfonso Castillo of NY Newsday has posted an interview with CM Punk as part of the hype for the Nassau Coliseum show tomorrow. You can read the full interview by clicking here.
The advantage of house shows versus televised events: “I think as a fan of wrestling, you can’t beat going to TV for the grand spectacle of the whole thing with the pyro, the music, and just the entire event atmosphere. It’s larger than life. But when you go to a house show, if you’re a wrestling fan, I think you have a better time because we have the freedom to pay more attention to the audience. We have the freedom to kind of go a little bit off in different directions. It’s more relaxed if that makes any sense. I know personally, I always have a better time on house shows. Sometimes at television you have to think about it. You’re doing a specific timed, television show. On a house show, we don’t have those restraints.”
Punk’s successful 2008: “The fact that I’m 30 years old, and in just this last year, in one entire year, I was ECW champion, I won the Money in the Bank at WrestleMania, I became World Champion, I was Tag Team Champion and I was the Intercontinental Champion, you know? And I won a Slammy.”
Thoughts on Ring Of Honor: “I’m proud to be able to say that I’m one of the guys that built that place – to just be able to say that that place is around because of me and handful of other guys. When times were tough, we were the guys who carried that place on our back – me, Samoa Joe, Homicide, Gabe Sapolsky. And of course there are countless others who are probably going to be mad that I didn’t mention them in this interview. But when you boil it down, we were the core guys. And I just love the fact that we built a place for guys to work and to learn. I’m very proud of that.”

Mick Foley discusses TNA storylines and wrestling again
- Mick Foley recently conducted an interview with Slam! Wrestling and discussed quite a bit, including twists and turns that the fans should look out for in upcoming months, him training for the Lockdown pay per view, TNA critics, and much more. The following are excerpts from the interview. To read the article in its entirety, click here.
On twists and turns in the MEM/Frontline angle:
“I think the feud has given a lot of focus to the show. We haven’t seen anybody jump sides, and depending on who does, it could be even more interesting. (It could) shake things up in a big way. Who knows? It might be me.”
On the timing of his first match back in the ring:
“Clearly it wasn’t the biggest match I could have been in, but I think it may have been the right time. It’s unlike (my last stint in WWE) in that now, it’s not going to be one match every couple of years; it’ll be a few matches a year. You don’t want your jumping off point to be the absolute zenith of your time there.”
On TNA’s critics:
“Some people have a love-hate relationship with TNA like they really want it to work but sometimes they get frustrated when things don’t seem to go the way they like it. (To those people, I say) just have patience. Some weeks we’re going to hit the bullseye, sometimes we’re going to miss the target completely. But overall, a year from now, I think people will think that the company has made great strides.”
On training for a match return at Lockdown:
“I am training and gearing up as if I might have to do something at that show. I’ll leave it at that, for people to wonder about.”

What more needs to be said!? You DON’T want to miss your opportunity to be on National Television with ROH for the first time! If this match doesn’t personify the “ROH 101″ concept and give a huge taste of the style and action that new fans can come to expect from Ring of Honor on HDNet, nothing will. Come down to the Arena this Saturday and Sunday, as ROH and HDNet look to kick off a long-term relationship, and we want each and every one of you along for the ride!

But D’Lo, I gotta warn you, this is ROH, and in ROH it’s simple. Man up, or get out.” Also signed for singles action is “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush! Quackenbush, making his return to ROH, will be locking up with Jerry Lynn! “I grew to love watching Jerry Lynn perform,” said Quack. “And to see his revival of sorts in ROH has been refreshing; it’ll be great to test myself against Jerry and to once again perform for the great ROH fans.”
- Bryan Danielson sent word to the ROH Booking Committee that he wants Bison Smith in the worst way, and apparently one match isn’t enough. He’s asked to face Bison in both St. Louis on March 13th and on the ROH debut in Indianapolis on March 14th. We have yet to receive word from Bison on whether or not he’ll accept this bold challenge from “the Best in the World”.

Who’s playing Suicide? Gov. Palin joins roster
- Wrestlezone.com is reporting that at last week’s Impact tapings, Christopher Daniels appeared on the show as the Suicide character, and it’s being reported that he will continue to work under the mask until Kazarian is ready to return to TV. It should be noted that TNA has no plans to use Daniels as the Suicide character on any kind of permanent basis, he is just playing it on TV now to keep the character’s momentum going until Kazarian finishes his injury rehab.
- It’s also being reported that the Governor Palin character is now an actual roster member in TNA. She has her own entrance theme and video, and is now being considered as a full time on-air personality. The character is being played by former WCW talent Daffney.

Former AWA wrestler/boxer has Lou Gehrig’s disease
- The Associated Press is reporting that former heavyweight contender Scott LeDoux has been diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease.
An Associated Press report read: The 60-year-old LeDoux confirmed in an interview with The Associated Press that he has the condition, also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. It’s a normally fatal disease that cripples the body and takes away the ability to speak, but LeDoux says he won’t let the diagnosis stop him from living a full life. LeDoux was diagnosed in August. He has continued his work as a commissioner in Anoka County — a suburban county north of Minneapolis — and as executive director of the Minnesota Combative Sports Commission
Obviously, we send our best wishes to LeDoux, who had a memorable run in the 1980’s as a referee for the AWA, which resulted in a feud with Larry Zbyszko. Many matches involving him have aired on ESPN Classics recently during their AWA broadcasts.

Where is Perry Saturn?
- From Bill Behrens at wrestlezone.com
I received an e-mail from a fan who found a website promoting “exclusive” info on Perry Saturn who has been MIA for quite a while, and some believed might have died.
There is at least one source that suggests he now lives in Albert Lea, MN which is a small town about 90 miles south of the Twin Cities.
I last saw him at TNA in Nashville when he decided to walk out toward the ring in his underwear during a post show fan interaction.
I have no idea whether the info below is valid.

Foley speaks on The Wrestler and how he thinks Vince will view the film
- Mick Foley recently spoke with New York Magazine and discussed the movie The Wrestler. Foley recently saw the film, and was very complimentary as he stated:
“I walked in something of a cynic, figuring there was no way an actor could ever really get a feel for what we do without having done it. But within the first five minutes, I was completely sold. From an emotional standpoint, I found Mickey Rourke to be so believable. He made it so easy to suspend disbelief that within five minutes in the movie, I never once thought of him as being Mickey Rourke, let alone an actor. He was Randy the Ram. It was the little cues that really registered — like how he lived to get a reaction from people, even if they were just customers at the deli counter.”
When asked what he thought Vince McMahon would think of the film, Foley commented…
“I personally don’t think Vince will like it, because Vince really believes in the philosophy of keeping wrestling as entertainment for the fans. And part of that is keeping up the mystique of what goes on behind the scenes. I’m not sure he would enjoy a film that shines a light on the hardships that some wrestlers go through.”

WWE keeping stars on their toes, Former star selling TV products
- Jason Powell of Prowrestling.net is reporting that WWE may have strategically made the decision to release their latest round of wrestlers over the course of several weeks as opposed to all at the same time. The report suggests that the move was done to appease Wall Street, and to let them know that they are constantly evaluating their talent and making cut backs when necessary. In addition, it’s being said that releasing talent one-by-one as opposed to all at once keeps the talent on their toes, and ensures they are always on their best behavior, as cuts could happen at anytime.
- Former WWE superstar and Tough Enough winner Maven Huffman is apparently a resident guest expert on the Home Shopping Network where he assists in selling products. His latest appearance on the network was to promote a self-cleaning kitty litter box.

Major TNA star written out of storyline
- As those of you who may have read the TNA spoilers have surmised, TNA wrote Christian Cage out of their storylines at tonight’s Impact taping in an angle where he was beaten and left for dead by the Main Event Mafia after Kurt Angle noted he had heard Cage was looking to leave TNA for WWE when his TNA deal expires.
Cage’s TNA contract expires next month.
TNA made the decision to write Cage out now as the belief internally is that Cage, who was extremely well liked, is looking to return to World Wrestling Entertainment. Rather than be caught unaware at the last second (as they were with Gail Kim), TNA opted to write Cage out.

“Genesis” location announced, Scott Hall reportedly plastered at “Turning Point”
- Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling has announced its January Pay-Per-View epic event “Genesis” will be held live at the Cricket Arena in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Sunday, January 11, 2009. The event will air live worldwide on Pay-Per-View.
- Wade Keller of PWTorch.com is reporting that Scott Hall was indeed drunk at last night’s TNA Turning Point PPV and was not given permission by Jeff Jarrett to appear at ringside during the show. It should be noted that The Insane Clown Posse was allowed to appear at ringside, however Scott Hall was asked to leave the area which explains his being there for just a few matches. It is also being reported that despite various rumors, Scott Hall was never booked to play a part in the match between Kevin Nash and Samoa Joe.

Kurt Angle talks MEM, referencing Jarrett’s wife, more
- On whether the MEM would serve the entire company of their own self interests:
“It’s our job to elevate the young guys in the company,” Angle said, complimenting the writing of Vince Russo along the way. “We want to be able to bring back the X Division the way it used to be. We want some of these young guys to become household names, kind of like most of the guys in the Main Event Mafia. So it’s kind of a team effort. We’re setting ourselves up to go up against the young guys, and in the end, we want the young guys to come out winners.”
On Angle’s promo referencing Jeff Jarrett’s wife, Jill:
“I said that I lost my world championship, I lost my gold medal and I lost my wife. But I’m not the only one to lose their wife,” Angle remembered. “Jeff didn’t know I was going to say that. When I got backstage, I was ready to fight. I figured he was going to come up to me and he was going to be really pissed. But I didn’t see Jeff. I didn’t know how he responded that night. I didn’t mean anything personally to Jill, God rest her soul. It’s just that Jeff and I were going at it, and it seemed like the right thing to say at the right time to get some good heat. The fans, all of our wonderful, tremendous, great fans, sympathize with Jeff for everything he’s gone through. And to throw that in like that, it was like, ‘What an a**hole to say something like that.’ You know? So I actually thought Jeff would want to fight me. But he if wanted to fight me, he’s in for quite a hell of a fight. I was ready for him to jump me. So I was getting ready. Jeff and I don’t see eye to eye. A lot of stuff you see on TV is very transparent on how we feel about each other.”

Wrestlemania Ticket Sales Dissapointing
- Ticket sales for WrestleMania 25 are, thus far, very disappointing for WWE. The show is not close to being sold out yet. WWE was hoping for a near instant sellout due to the WrestleMania name and because Houston, the location for the show, is traditionally a strong wrestling market. [WrestlingObserver.com]
- Despite the disappointment, WWE did their best to put a happy face on it by releasing this press release today.

James Storm Interview
On Tuesday night, November 4, James Storm, one half of the TNA World Tag Team Champions “Beer Money,” joined hosts Brian Fritz and Dickerman live on Between The Ropes on ESPN Florida AM 1080 and AM 1060 to discuss his current run with Robert Roode in Beer Money, the time he spent with Chris Harris in America’s Most Wanted and what was behind that team’s split, his beer holster belt, and much more.
The interview started out with some discussion about Storm’s character and how much fun it is to be able to excuse drinking anytime as just staying in character. Storm said “I take full advantage of that. And now the bad thing is Robert Roode is trying to get in on it too. I’ve seen him sneaking a beer or two out of my six pack and I’m like ‘what are you doing man’ and he says ‘well I bought the damn thing’ so I guess it’s all good then.”
James also talked about his beer holster belt. He said that he was able to sneak some beer into universal studios by using it. He also said he didn’t make it himself, but instead it was actually a gift from some friends of his.
Next James talked about how he feels about his current tag team with Robert Roode, Beer Money. “It’s working out really good. Me and Robert gel kind of like me and Chris did. We’re so opposite that it works well in the ring. We’re two totally opposite people, but when we get in the ring it just gels, it clicks.”
James has had a lot of success working as a tag team wrestler in an era where stable tag teams are something of a rarity. James was asked if prefers being in tag teams because of this and he replied that his success has been a result of being willing to do whatever he is asked to do, saying “I just make any situation work.”
Staying on the topic of his past tag team work James talked about the split of America’s Most Wanted and how he felt about having to be a singles wrestler. “I was against splitting up the team, but it’s one of those things where I had confidence in myself, I knew I could do it. I think a lot of people, including (AMW parter) Chris Harris, at the time, didn’t think I could do it.
“One thing I thrive off of is entertaining the crowd because the crowd is there to have a good time. That’s what I’m about. I can do wrestling, but I can entertain as well. That’s kind of where Chris lost track, because he’s a good wrestler, but he’s kind of bland in the entertainment part of it.” James also confirmed that it was Chris Harris’ idea to split up the team because Chris thought he could be a bigger star as a singles wrestler and discussed some reasons why Harris didn’t work out once he was signed by WWE.
The discussion then turned to Storm’s feelings on TNA’s growth since he has been there since day one. James said that TNA is still a lot the same as it used to be, though they are making more money now. He also credited Jeff Jarrett for keeping the locker room atmosphere so positive.
Storm was also asked his opinion of seeing so many guys jump to TNA from WWE since he has been with TNA since day one. “They didn’t come over with the big head, like they were better than everybody else. They came over to help the younger guys. They pull guys to the side after their match is over and critique them a little bit…I think that’s been a good thing. I traveled with Kurt on the road a little bit and he’s helped me out a whole lot.”

Christian Cage Rumors Swirl
Several sites have been reporting that Christian Cage is “set to stay with TNA”, and that “there was no talk of him actually having any intentions on going to WWE and that those rumors were inaccurate”.
I’m hearing the opposite and that it is more than likely that Cage will end up back in WWE for one last run.
The current economy has not helped anyone with investments and it is very possible that Cage sees one last WWE run as the best way to solidify his family’s financial security.
An additional rumor I’m hearing is that the Turning Point PPV or TV’s that follow might be Christian Cage’s last appearances for TNA, and that there may even be an angle in play that “says goodbye” to him tonight.

TNA Impact Game Not Selling Well
TNA’s “iMPACT!” video game release has not been nearly as successful as initially hoped. Midway Games lost double what they expected during the third quarter. The company projected losses of $34 million, but now expect to lose $64 million in the quarter. Midway hoped the TNA video game would help save the quarter. Midway canceled two licenses, but spared TNA for the time being. It’s being said that sales for the TNA “iMPACT!” video game have not been good at all and the feeling is that if sales continue to disappoint during the holiday season, there will be no future TNA video game releases from Midway. Even if the game sells well during the holiday season, it won’t matter if the company goes out of business.

Bret Hart Claims To Be Done With Wrestling
In an interview with Alex Marvez, Bret Hart said he’s done with professional wrestling following his U.S. book tour. Hart believes his wrestling career will be complete after saying good-bye to his American fans on various book signing tours to promote its release in the States. Hart is content saying good-bye to wrestling through his book and not working for a promotion after spending seven years on the project. “I’d be happy being remembered for really brilliant storytelling in my matches, not for some last chance to snap up some money,” Hart said. “I respectfully understand my light in wrestling is fading. I can live with that.” Hart said he nearly gave up on the project while trying to fight with the illnesses he faced after suffering a stroke in 2002. However, Hart wanted to bring closure on his wrestling career. “A lot of times, I thought about giving up because it was hard reliving some of these events. But I couldn’t say goodbye to my wrestling character until I finished.” Hart also wanted his family, especially his kids, to find out about his story and experience what he lived through. “I just wanted people - even my kids - to walk in my shoes and know that it was never easy being gone all the time. I was pretty much on the road for 300 days a year and that didn’t include travel back and forth. It’s hard to keep a marriage going.”
