The Philis Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, home to this coming Monday night’s Raw broadcast, is advertising the following matches for the event:

Chris Jericho vs. Batista vs. Shawn Michaels for the World Heavyweight Championship

Randy Orton vs. CM Punk

Punk vs Orton was announced last week on Raw, so that match will take place on the live broadcast, however the Triple Threat Championship match will most likely be the dark match main event.

Could Lashley Make a WWE Comeback?

- Bobby Lashley was on the latest edition of “The Shoot” and now seems interested in retuning to the wrestling business. Here is part of the interview:

Bobby Lashley stopped by The Shoot on November 13th, he was welcomed by hosts Gary Cantrell and Alan Martin. Gary starts off by asking Bobby about his WWE release. “I spoke with some of the higher ups, and just came to the conclusion that I did ask for my release.” Bobby also responded to the rumors that his release involved Kristal Marshall by saying, “There was nothing at all to do with Kristal why I left. I don’t know who brought that up or why that brought that up but it was completely wrong.” He also mentioned that he would love to go back to professional wrestling at some point as he really enjoyed the atmosphere and interacting with the fans. Gary then goes on to ask him about the feeling of headlining a Wrestlemania. “Walking out there in front of 85,000 people, it was without a doubt surreal man.” He was then asked if he was at all nervous before walking through the curtain, and Bobby said “I was more anxious than nervous. I was ready to go out there, I couldn’t wait to get out there.” The conversation switched to talking about the schedule that comes with being a top tier WWE star. “It has a big effect on your family life but I think the people that are able to it for a long time have a lot of support from their family. All in all your doing a lot, but on the same token your able to take care of your family like you never have before. There was things that I was able to do for my family, my extended family, friends, and everyone else that I never thought I’d be able to do so I didn’t mind at all sacrificing myself in order to take care of everyone else and everyone else understood it.”

November 14th: Mark and Jay Briscoe showed a different and somewhat unfortunate side of themselves after their hard fought loss to Kevin Steen and El Generico in Toronto. Their level of aggression post-match was at an all-time high, and their frustration due to the loss went way past what we’re accustomed to seeing from the former World Tag Team Champions. “We’ve earned our spot. We’ve done it time and again, and now we have that black mark hanging over our heads”, said Jay Briscoe. “But we’re gonna do what we do, son, and that’s simple. We man up. Can Steen and Generico do that? Are they men or mice? Yeah, they got a win. ONE win. That don’t prove nothing to nobody. November 14th: Claudio Castagnoli has been rumored to have been training along side ROH World Champion, Nigel McGuinness. He’ll put that alleged training to the test as he’s thrown himself into the Four-Corner-Survival scheduled for Chicago on 11/22. Besides the challenge of Silas Young, Sami Callahan, and one other unnamed competitor on that night, don’t forget that Castagnoli is facing Bryan Danielson in a highly volatile grudge match the night before in Dayton!

November 14th: Mums the word in Austin Aries’ camp as he prepares for his “I Quit” war against Jimmy Jacobs on 11/22. We know that Tyler Black will second Jacobs to the ring, and that Aries will also have a second, but he has refused every inquiry as to who that second will be. Aries will get an up close and personal look at Black the night before in Dayton during the scheduled 3-Way-Title Match as they both oppose Nigel McGuinness, but will Aries’ second also be on hand?

November 14th: ROH officials have been unable to reach anyone connected to the Necro Butcher to ascertain the status of the knee injury he suffered at the hands of the AOTF’s Brodie Lee in Montreal. Necro has seemingly gone into seclusion, and at this point all we know is that he’s scheduled to be a part of ROH’s debut events in St. Louis and Nashville. We can’t confirm at this time if he’ll be able to compete, but we can surely surmise that he has his sights set on revenge.

November 14th: Without question, the top two female competitors to emerge out of the St. Louis wrestling scene in recent years are SHIMMER Champion MsChif and Daizee Haze. Both women have several years of history with one another, both as training partners, adversaries, and as occasional teammates. There’s no better place for MsChif and The Haze to have their first one-on-one match in ROH competition, than in front of the St. Louis area fans who have watched them from the start of their careers. On 12/5 in suburban St. Louis, these two Women of Honor will show their hometown fans what athletic female wrestling is all about in ROH. November 14th: Sources indicate that Larry Sweeney has been reluctantly telling those around him that it’s time Bobby Dempsey earned his keep. Could this mean that Dempsey will finally see action inside the ring as opposed to always being forced to hide under it? And when might this happen? More on this as it develops.

After spouting some unflattering comments on November 10th, Nigel McGuinness will be forced to physically back them up as he will face Jerry Lynn man-to-man! This match will take place regardless of whether or not McGuinness retains the ROH World Title in Dayton or Chicago. “Nigel is a great wrestler”, said the ever-classy Lynn. “He’s one of the best of his generation. But that ego of his is going to be his downfall. November 13th: Nigel McGuinness certainly isn’t planning on anyone else carrying the ROH World Title anytime soon other than himself. To that end, we’re told the training regiment for both his Dayton championship 3-Way-Dance against Austin Aries and Tyler Black, as well as his highly publicized PPV encounter against Bryan Danielson in Chicago, must be seen to be believed. In fact, it seems that Claudio Castagnoli has been seen sparring and talking strategy with McGuinness. As we all know, Castagnoli is opposing Danielson in a heated grudge match of their own on 11/21 in Dayton!

November 13th: ROH officials are happy to welcome back Bushwhacker Luke Williams, as he will be appearing in the St. Louis Area on 12/5 and in Nashville on 12/6.

November 13th: Kenny Omega was both consoled and congratulated by the Briscoes for his effort, albeit on the losing end, in their Montreal tag team match. As a result, we’re happy to announce that two big grudge matches have been signed. In St. Louis, Kenny Omega will face Kenny King one-on-one in the hopes of gaining revenge. ROH officials were surprised that Jacobs chose Delirious instead of Jacobs’ former championship partner, Tyler Black. We were unable to get a comment from Jacobs in reference to the choice.

November 11th: Speaking of the AOTF, fans in St. Louis and Nashville will see them first hand as Jimmy Jacobs, Tyler Black, and Delirious will all be in attendance. Also scheduled to appear is the Necro Butcher, who must be chomping at the bit to get revenge as he was injured in Montreal against the AOTF beast, Brodie Lee. As of now we do not have any update on Necro’s condition.

November 11th: Fans in Toronto saw the frustration mount and explode from Mark and Jay Briscoe after they lost their hard fought battle with Steen and Generico. The former World Champions unexpectedly lost their composure after the bout, resulting in a shoving match with the victors that had to be broken up by officials. “We are the best tag team in the world, “said Jay Briscoe. “And we flat out lost. Were we pissed? You damn right we were, and we still are. So now what do we do? We man up. And it starts in Dayton.” We’ll have their opponents as soon as possible right here in the Newswire.

November 11th: Super Agent Larry Sweeney isn’t happy about bringing Sweet-n-Sour to St. Louis and Nashville. “It makes me sick,” quipped Sweeney. “Nobody wants to spend time around toothless hillbillies and I’m only bringing Davey Richards to those two dumps because he wants to hurt somebody.” Richards was victorious in both of his matches in Canada, and seemingly wants to continue his charge. “Let’s face it,” Sweeney continued. “Davey is unstoppable right now and it won’t stop in Dayton against Brent Albright, it won’t stop in Chicago, and it sure won’t stop in St. Louis or Nashville. I could beat anyone in those two towns.”

November 11th: We are happy to announce that the Four Corner Survival will return to ROH in Dayton on 11/21 and Chicago on 11/22! The first competitors to throw their names in the hat are Sami Callahan and Silas Young. Callahan will be a part of the battles in both towns, while Silas appears in Chicago only. Both men will try to prove themselves in one of Ring of Honor’s signature encounters. We’ll have more combatants for these matches as we get closer to the events.

November 10th: Erick Stevens was blind sided and publicly attacked by Sweet-N-Sour Incorporated following Saturday’s Markham, Ontario event. New ROH backstage interviewer, Kyle Durden, was in the midst of an interview when cameras captured the violent attack. We hope to have the footage available soon and we are awaiting confirmation of the severity of Stevens’ injuries.

November 10th: Kenny Omega took the ball and ran with it over this past weekend with impressive showings in both Montreal and suburban Toronto. Kenny King was apparently unimpressed, as he abandoned Omega during their scheduled tag team match against the Briscoes in Montreal. King left ringside with Rhett Titus, and ended up being successful with Titus against the AOTF contingent of Brodie Lee and Delirious. Both King and Omega will be a part of the debut of ROH in St. Louis and Nashville! We’ll have their scheduled matches soon right her in the newswire.

Hulk Hogan Selling Trademarks To Eric Bischoff

- TMZ.com reports that Hulk Hogan is apparently selling some of his trademarks to best friend Eric Bischoff at discounted prices as a way of keeping Linda Hogan from getting access to them during their ongoing divorce case. The trademarks in question are apparently big ones — Hollywood Hulk, Hulkster, Hulkamania, and his grill and energy drink. Linda Hogan’s lawyers have filed papers in court claiming that she has rights to these trademarks. Hogan’s lawyer is denying the report that Hulk is trying to hide assets by selling them off to friends.

Paul Heyman’s Advice For The WWE

The UK Sun has published another column by Paul Heyman. This time Heyman offers WWE some advice on how to freshen its current product. Heyman writes, “So what’s the biggest problem with the WWE product? Is it Vince McMahon? Well, he’s 63, but that doesn’t mean he has to be so out of the loop in terms of cultural waves. I just think Vince is listening to the same group of people who are stuck in the bubble of the WWE Universe, while pop culture is totally different today than it was even six months ago…

WWE Buy Rates Released

WWE released the following PPV numbers today: 

The Great American Bash pay-per-view was ordered by 196,000 viewers, which was down from the 229,000 who ordered the pay-per-view last year. 

SummerSlam drew 477,000 buys, which is down from the 537,000 buys for last year’s show. 

The Unforgiven pay-per-view scored 211,000 buys, which is up from the 210,000 buys from last year.

Natalya Neidhart, DH Smith Updates and More

- Natalya Neidhart is now working with both TJ Wilson and Harry Smith at the FCW shows as a manager. Wilson and Smith were a great team as the Stampede Bulldogs before being signed by WWE, but both men had been struggling as singles competitors.

- WWE.com had a photo of Undertaker vs. Big Show on the website with a caption that read, “Undertaker applying the gogoplata choke to the Big Show.” While the announcers know the name of the hold as well, the company doesn’t want them using that term on the air.

- The Great Khali did his first-ever “Make-A-Wish” appearance last week. 17-year-old name Jon Espita requested him and they met prior to the Smackdown tapings that week.

- Should Nigel McGuinness retain the ROH title in Canada, we now know who one of his two potential challengers is. Austin Aries has signed the contract and will oppose McGuinness and another opponent in Dayton on 11/21, with or without the title on the line!

- Shane Hagadorn has reportedly been seeing a psychologist for what we’re told is “extreme depression”. Larry Sweeney repeatedly deflected questions about the long time “manservant”, saying only that “Hagadorn is in mourning. He’s struggling to find his purpose.” More on this as it develops.

- ROH Officials have fielded several phone calls from Samoa Joe, who by all accounts sees a lot of “humor” in Tyler Black’s recent blog calling out the ROH legend. Take a look at what Black had to say (http://projectonesixone.blogspot.com/) and judge for yourself.

- In another unexpected turn, Kenny King has signed to be a part of the open tag team challenge issued by The AOTF team of Brodie Lee and Delirious. ROH officials are puzzled by King’s request to be a part of this match in Toronto.

- WWE will release Behind Enemy Lines III on DVD on 01/06/09. The film features Mr. Kennedy.

Random thoughts while getting ready to travel from Norman, Oklahoma to College Station, Texas to Manchester, England in a span of 24 hours, give or take. Today we talk a little wrestling, some football, UFC, international touring, and one of the best antagonist tag teams most fans today never saw.

The media can “pile on” Sarah Palin all they want but this election “made” her in my view. Books, TV appearances, movie deals about her life and experiences, clothing deals, etc all await the embattled former V.P. candidate. I smell money. 

 

Why in the hell didn’t Tom Brady, you remember him the QB of the New England Patriots,  have his knee surgery done in the first place by Dr. Jim Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama? Going to California for the surgery needs an explanation to me. Andrews is to knees what Brady is to the QB position of the Pats. 

 

The WWE grossed over half a million bucks in Mannheim, Germany this week with over 6500 fans enjoying the event.

 

Nice, France was a sold out event, as are the vast majority of WWE events on this extended international tour. 

 

Milan, Italy saw over 5500 fans on hand in Santino’s “hometown.” Remember the “Milan Miracle?”  What I really remember about that weekend was the amazing pasta that fellow Okie Jerry Brisco and I enjoyed for supper. Wow. (No fat jokes please…I’m very sensitive,)

 

I love the “Devil’s Triangle” name for the Undertaker’s submission hold. I can see a new T shirt in the works as we speak. The word “choke” is no more of which I totally agree especially with so many younger viewers being so impressionable. There is work to be done as it relates to what kids see and hear on TV but this is a nice inclusion to that matter.

 

Why is seemingly every wrestler who is portrayed as a Middle Easterner always a “Sheik?” Just curious. 

 

Long time wrestling fans, we still say “wrestling” on this site, will likely remember the unbelievable duo of Dick Murdoch and Dusty Rhodes, the vaunted Texas Outlaws. These two, legit tough Texans were one of the most amazing tag teams I can remember seeing and some of you might have seen their cameo in Verne Gagne’s movie entitled, “The Wrestler” starring Ed Asner among others. Both Rhodes and Murdoch were amazing on the mic and were true bullies in the ring. Each realized however that the big money was in singles matches and their team dissolved after a few years. These two lived their in ring personas complete with plenty of bar fights and beer drinking. Fans complain about the lack of star tag teams but the big bread is and always will be in singles bouts. Yes, I love a great tag bout like the Midnight Express vs. The Rock ‘n Roll Express stuff from years ago but teams like that simply don’t come along that often and can’t be “manufactured” as easily as some fans would like to think. 

 

Thanks to the attentive wrestling internet we all now know how to determine which Bella twin is Brie or Nikki. I expect a wardrobe tweak to cover one of their tattoos on the lower back….or maybe not. 

 

My sources tell me that my favorite boxer Kelly Pavlik was battling bronchitis when he lost to the talented Bernard Hopkins recently. Kelly might have still lost to “The Executioner” but a healthy Pavlik is hard to handle. 

 

Brock Lesnar seems to be brimming with confidence as his UFC showdown with the legend Randy Couture is just about a week away. This is one fight I will not miss on pay per view. Lesnar won’t be intimidated by any thing or any one as most fans likely realize by now. Lesnar is a physical freak and I still find it difficult to visualize how Couture is going to handle the immense weight disadvantage come November 15 at fight time. Randy is an amazing strategist without question and if any one can find a chink in the ever improving Lesnar’s Armour it has to be Couture. I still am a Lesnar “lean” but this one is so close I choose not to place any significant wagers other than perhaps a rack of ribs or some J.R.’s BBQ Sauce.

The NFL is over officiating their games as players are being fined for making physical hits that are simply a part of the game. There is a difference in “dirty play” and “physical play.” 

 

Some of my friends who are much more versed in the stock market than I are looking closely at the WWE stock as a potential investment. $12 and change is something for stock market players to seriously consider. I’m no stock analyst but I’m just saying….

 

Stone Cold is rocking along with his new film currently in production in Vancouver. He seems to be really pleased with the direction the film is heading in and Steve is not an easy man to please when it comes to his creative projects. Perfection is hard to attain but that’s simply the way Steve Austin is. Nothing wrong with that. The fight scenes in this film are going to be awesome. Perfection indeed…kind of the way yours truly is with our BBQ Sauce. 

I hope you enjoy Friday Night Smackdown on MyNetworkTV as it seemed like a good one when we taped it Tuesday in Orlando. My partner Tazz, who I am really having a blast working with, and I usually know when we have a good broadcast or not and are both our own harshest critics. You be the judge when you see it.
